Halo 3 How-to: Matchmaking Playlists

Halo 2's Matchmaking, designed to mirror the on-the-couch experience of playing with your friends in the living room, returns, retuned and upgraded for Halo 3. Since the Halo 3 Public Beta, some things about Matchmaking have changed, some things remain the same. Here's what Bungie said then, updated where appropriate for Halo 3:

In Halo 3's Matchmaking system, you'll find a ton of new options and abilities. Bungie's made their best effort to improve the already social nature of Matchmaking by giving you some new powers while you use the system to find games and opponents. Now it's easier than ever to meet people you like, with similar skills and experience.

Keeping BTB dead. They really need to make it ranked after the host tests are done. Assault not typical? What the hell is up with that bs?

I hate shotty snipers...that was easily the worse game in the beta

"it also means that players don’t get lost in the jump between games"
one of the problems with playing ranked matches in Gears...lovvve it

hard to believe Halo 2 still has the best matchmaking system out there

BTB was best played unranked, because btb ranked was way to much about the user and not the team, and shotty snipers? it was an amazing game in the beta.

It ruins it. People quit because there's no rank to keep them in. They can just not care. Play Halo 2 BTB see how horrible it really is. Really hope this is just until they get the hosts sorted out.

That made no sense, "even more people quit because they didn't want to lose rank". That's just not true, you lose points for quiting, so they would lose rank. There were far less quiter before when it was ranked. It's not improved now, way more quit out. Do you even remember BTB when it was ranked....? People don't listen either, hardly anyone talks and there is all the betrays, quiting and just people messing around. The fact you think it is impoved is beyond me, you make no sense.

If you had played BTB halo 2 ranked you'd know that EVEN MORE people quit out because they didn't wanna lose rank, More people cheated on BTB because it was ranked, More often people wouldn't listen to plans they would do whatever they liked.

Now that BTB is unranked its VASTLY better not nearly as many people quit out as before, people actually listen to you because is all about fun, and the cheaters have all but disapeared from BTB.

I love snotty snipers. Love doing a close up noscope on a newb with a shotty. And I'm a big fan of BTB and played many very competitive games. Probably the most fun I had with Halo 2 after Hardcore.

but im the guy with the shotgun, sneaking up on mofos and taking them out with melee or shotgun shots from close range while they try to take others out or try to take me out.

Its easy to close range snipe as long as you follow linear movement but strafing movement is what defeats no scope lol

I had fun with the beta, and im picking the game up at 12PM in 3 days.

3 disagrees based on what? that i didn't have fun with the beta? that Im not picking up the game in 3 days? or that its easy to kill no scopers?

Guess what Strafing in real life combat and hiding behind cover is how you dont get shot in a real war when a sniper is shooting at you....Its the same in halo.

the people that always annoyed me on halo 2(also graw 2 which i frequently play until recently at least) was that all people seemed to care about was rank. While it is cool and myself like leveling up its gets overboard.

A lot of times i do play just player matches in graw 2(which lowers your score in ranked constantly which is annoying) becasue for 1 you can invite people a lot easier and most of my friends online just play player matches. So my rank really isn't that high its only like a 4 or 5. Though somehow i can still compete with the 8s and 9s.

Really it was the same with halo 2(i think i was a 10 or 11). Plus well a a bunch of kids were always on. and cheating.
