Does not liking Dead Space 2 make me less of a gamer?

One of the editors of the Gamer Sheep doesn't like Dead Space 2 and is wondering if there is something wrong with his taste in games.

Everybody he asks seems to love the game. So why doesn't he?

"It's my opinion Crackdown 2 is the best game ever made."

See how lame our world would be if 'every' opinion was legitimate? Opinions reflect our perspective, and I personally feel if you cannot enjoy Dead Space 2 you simply don't have a 'true' gamer perspective.

A 'true' gamer may not like the style of play or the graphic story, but surely a 'true' gamer can see how incredible--from a gaming-industry stand point--Dead Space 2 is.

karl5242d ago

i agree with u.... even if some wont...

Dnied5242d ago (Edited 5242d ago )

I think your close but they are free to not enjoy it, that IS their own taste in games.. what I think you're referring to is RESPECT for dead space 2, which is much deserved.

Same could be said for GT5 and those other excellent games that have been shit on, whether you like it or not, you have to respect the amount of passion and effort put into games like these.

bananlol5242d ago

I played it, i liked it, but i dont like you for saying a ignorant thing like that. People like different genres of games, and why shouldnt they?

BakedGoods5242d ago

@ Dnied

Yeah, you said it better.

No one can blame you for disliking modern "horror" games. Today, it's just a slight alteration to the shooter genre.

BISHOP-BRASIL5242d ago

ding ding ding ding ding
we do have a winner!

That's my grip with the game, the fact I can shoot whatever comes my way always get in the way of the actual horror, only lefting behing the stupidly dark environment (you are not afraid, you simply can't see shit) and cheap ocasional peek a boo moment. Not so much Dead Space 2, it's a good game, just like the first, but it isn't a great shooter and definetelly not really frightening terror game (IMO, of course), ends up tasting like a dark and slow version of Doom, good thing, but not so much for those looking for horror.

The only game this gen that gave me the hesitation feel was Siren, close second was Silent Hill Homecoming, neither were as good HORROR game as their predecessors or most last gen horror games to be precise. Dead Space would be the third, but not close... They could use a lot more puzzle/exploration/persuit scenes and less shooting.

Dead Space 2 was incredible. Best game on the PS3!

slinky1234565242d ago

deffinetly not the best, but up there.

tigertron5242d ago

If he thinks DS2 is the best game on the PS3, then let him, I wouldn't disagree, but I won't agree either.

Bobby Kotex5242d ago

so in other words you're a zombie with no opinion.

tigertron5242d ago (Edited 5242d ago )

I don't quite know how you came to that conclusion, but let me make it clear for you:

If someone said it was the best game ever, then I wouldn't do against them and say otherwise...why? because the game has excellent gameplay, visuals, atmosphere and story. However, it isn't my favourite game, but its one of the best PS3 games, infact, one of the best games this gen. Hows that for a zombie with no opinion?

Hellsvacancy5242d ago (Edited 5242d ago )

I aint bothered bout Dead Space 2, ill probably rent it afew months from now, LOVED the 1st game, bought it day-1 when not many other people did, i remember bein called an idiot for expressin how cool i thought the game looked in the comments section

Well, fast forward afew years and nearly every mofo wants to get on the Dead Space band-wagon, not me though, as ive played the 1st game (Platinum trophied it easily) i know what to expect from the second game "more walkin down dark corridors with movin shadows and the odd burstin pipe" ive experianced Dead Space so all the other games from now are just gonna be more of the same, more action packed

Take the Saw movies for example, the 1st movie was awesome (coz it was a NEW idea) the second was MILDLY ok (more of the same just more of it) and so on and so on

DS2 "may" surprise me when i play it 1 day, im rarely wrong though, i know myself better than any-1

As for the article, NO, i dont like Halo where millions of others do so does that make me less of a gamer "no, it makes you a fanboy" no, nothin to do with bein a fanboy it just looks like sissys game

Forbidden_Darkness5242d ago

You could say that about a lot of sequels, "more of the same", but you'd miss out on alot games if you just skipped them because they are more of the same. A sequel is suppose to 'build upon its foundation and improve upon the concept', not 'destroy its foundation and build a whole new concept on top of it'.

It just doesn't work that way. Dead Space 2 for me was a big improvement over the first and it makes the wait for the next game in the Dead Space series all that much harder to wait for and that wont be out for another 2 years or so. May i just love the series and the setting of Dead Space way too much to care about it feeling more of the same, but isn't it that what a franchise should be? A series that pulls you into its world, setting and makes you want more?

Esena5242d ago

@Hellsvacancy

It seems like you only like things that aren't popular. It's a common syndrome people suffer from. They like to know about cool, less popular games and tell people about them so they can feel like they've known the unknown and are special in some way.

If you truly liked Dead Space, you would be hungering to play the second. There are so many questions to be answered. DS2 goes more into Isaac's personality and struggles. To say because you've experienced DS1 you know how all the other games are going to unfold is quite the illogical assumption.

Relating the Dead Space story to the Saw movies is confusing. After the first Saw movie, it wasn't really about story, it was just about 'cool kills'. Dead Space is a nice blend between story and gameplay.

Until you play DS2 stop claiming to know all about it. You may know yourself better than anyone, but it doesn't seem like you know much about anything else. Enjoy good games regardless of how many people know about them. Yes it is good to find that rare jewel and spread the news. But this fanatasicm with wanting to be original all the time is quite childish.

jimbone795241d ago

@ Esena
I agree with you 100%. That is the exact same way I perceived his comment. I too was one of those people that picked up DS1 the first day because it looked like a game I would be into. I loved it and was surprised how good it ended up being, but I didn't like it because no one else heard of it. Those kind of people are all over the place. I like Korn before anyone else I knew ever hear of them, then once Follow the Leader came out, the same people I introduced to Korn were calling them "sell outs", and didn't like them because they were "in" now. I don't understand that attitude but it's their right to have it. I would hate to think I would miss something really good because it's got a bigger fan base now. If you really liked the first one, why wouldn't you want to see how the improve the next? Just because they found success? There are a LOT of people in the world like this so you really not being as "unique" as you think you are.

I am not saying that you are wrong though. You have every right in the world to feel that way. I just wanted to post my opinion on the matter.

NYC_Gamer5242d ago

nope,because everyone have different taste.

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel429d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel428d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia429d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda429d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long429d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto429d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long428d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic428d ago (Edited 428d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

13 Years Later, Dead Space 2 Is Still A Perfect Video Game

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls7449d ago

It was amazing. All 3 DS games game solid for me, but 2 was special.

hombreacabado449d ago

i can do without ds3 but the first two are solid.

mariopasta449d ago

Hope they remake this one too. Just like they did with number 1. The remake of Dead Space 1 was perfection

Terry_B449d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa551d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno551d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac551d ago (Edited 551d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast551d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial551d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!
