Mass Effect 2 would be a masterpiece if it had depth to the gameplay. But it doesn't. It's RPG light. I expect Mass Effect 3 will be even more stripped down. If you want a proper Western RPG you'll have to wait for Skyrim or Diablo 3.

Mass Effect 2 is Gears of war in space.

As much as I love ME, I have to agree- its gameplay certainly isn't its strongest point. ME 1 had a more complex and RPG-ish gameplay for that matter.

"Mass Effect 2 is Gears of war in space"

Uh huh. Because of the TPS gameplay mechanics right? Been saying this for a long time. What makes an RPG game what it is, is the choice options and freedom it gives to you and Mass Effect 2 is great in both departments. Yes, some classic RPG mechanics like looting and inventory system isn't exactly there but they'll be back in the third game. Even lead designer Christina Norman said this a couple of months later of ME 2's release. So;

I am severely enjoying Mass 2. It has a world just as immersive as Fallout 3 was, but the cinematic quality of Mass Effect 2 is overwhelming. It's not even like a game anymore, but inside a sci-fi series. Like living out the entire farscape, stargate, and startrek shows in one long amazing experience.

@Ace: The gameplay is stripped down from the RPG style to a more actionTPSRPG. But the story and overall experience is still second to none. Makes it just as much fun as the first. I wouldn't mind seeing the Freeze element from KOTOR though, but they want the gameplay to be fluid. I love the dynamic dialog system, it's very fluid and keeps the interrupting away, which is annoying. I like hearing a conversation and hate that Fallout cuts off the person if you make a dialog choice mid sentence. I do fear that Mass 3 may loose RPG all together, but I have hope that it remains. I am curious to see what it will be like playing Mass on earth. I hope earth isn't all of it, though.

Most likely my favorite game this gen so far. It's one of the few series that I buy for the story. Also I like the gameplay, it is better than Gears

WeeWee5200d ago

lol delusional fan boy its not better than Gears but it is better than the entire ps3 games and thats a FACT :)

Iii dooooont thiiiink sooooooooooo

Btw, what you playing on your 360 nowadays?

Edit: honestly, what is this sites obsession with fanboys? I think there's more comments complaining about fanboys than fanboy comments themselves...

CernaML5200d ago

But Mass Effect 2 IS a PS3 game. :P

Which version the Ps3 or 360 one ?

Lord_Ranos5200d ago

OK. My brother bought the 360 and PS3 version. He finished the 360 version and he is now playing the PS3 one with all the DLC.

distorted_reality5200d ago

All versions will have one more DLC bundle leading up to ME3 - don't expect it any time soon though.

anast145d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine145d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast145d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman145d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast145d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave393d ago (Edited 393d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
