this looks just like nfs shift 1

Chaos Striker5247d ago

We won't really know until a legitimate comparison video, I'd imagine.

FinalSpartan5247d ago (Edited 5247d ago )

Hot pursuit was a great arcade racing title. To fill the void of the ultmate racing game Burnout. Really hope Burnout comes back was really fun.

Shift 2 is looking great, Long time since good racing sim. Perhaps since Forza 3. Forza 4 will be stellar sim that is for sure.

Quality not Quantity wonder who that is aimed to lol

Pyscho_Mantis5246d ago

mate if you think Forza 3 has better physics than GT5 then you are no sim racer. Clearly you are more of a arcade racer. I love how Forza fans keep repeating the same shit like...Forza (insert any number) is goin to be the best racing sim. Guys to be brutally honest Forza 3 was a disappointment in the sim department. The game is literally dead online for over 6 months, just wannabes who drive backwards for a cheap thrill. The community is in disarray and pissed off and the reputation they once had is diminshed. Forza 3 sales did not match Forza 2 sales even though it was bundled several times. Anyway lets see if F4 is going to be able to compete with GT5 consoles only cuz the sims on the PC are simply miles ahead.

NFS = Simulation?

Yeah, okay lady. That'll be the day.

Chaos Striker5247d ago

Shift is aiming for a different type of simulation. Rather than focusing 100% on car physics and what not, they are focusing on the driver experience. AKA what it feels like to be in the driver's mind when everything is going on (i.e. the driver's head will look towards the turn in order to better assess his position). Hence, it is a simulation racer, but of a different niche.

despair5246d ago

that actually sounds interesting, if they can pull it off and if it actually feels good to play.

Flexatron5247d ago

Doesn't it seem a little early to be releasing this? Hot Pursuit just came out several months ago.

iamgoatman5247d ago

Different developers.

It's best to think of Shift as a completely different franchise to Hot Pursuit, just under the same NFS name.

Ninver5247d ago (Edited 5247d ago )

Shift 1 was incredibly mediocre. There were no vehicle physics and the graphics were less than average. Shift 2 looks the same. Oh well, back to GT5.

DelbertGrady5247d ago

But unlike GT5 the part of the game where you drive the car was actually fun.

CernaML5246d ago

Yeah no. Shift wasn't fun. Even Hot Pursuit isn't as fun as the driving in GT5.

Looking Back to 2011 and the Forza Baiting Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed

Paul writes: "So, all in all, Shift 2: Unleashed from way back in 2011 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC was a good game, but not quite as good as the marketing hype may have had you believe. Autolog and racing with friends was fun, the upgrading of the cars and the gradual unlocking of the new series made for an addictive play, and the game looked the part as well. But it failed to reach the heights many predicted."

Interesting interview....

CouldHaveYelledUiiW4100d ago

I agree,
SQ: "Excellent"
LkTWS: "Yes"

Thanks for writing something with substance and not just opinion and speculation.

wonderfulmonkeyman4099d ago

Deus Ex was great, but ME3 was just done terribly. The should have done the collection of the series for wii u instead of the third game on its own.

CurrentDigital4099d ago

This is exactly what I've been telling Jes, but he's just a QA tester so it doesn't really matter what I tell him. :P

ZeekQuattro4099d ago

Excellent work. This is a breath of fresh air especially compared to the usual doom and gloom on here. Keep it up.

2 Car Racing Video Games of 2012 That Are Perfect for Adrenaline Junkies

Car racing games are the most prolific among all the genres of video games available for gaming consoles and computers. Ask any serious gamer and you will not find one who has never played a car racing game ever in his life. For starters, the reason behind the prolific success of car racing games can be attributed to the fact that they give you an opportunity to live a fantasy life that you can’t otherwise afford to live in reality. How many of you can afford the costly cars and their costlier upgrades? Very few. And, let’s not get into the legality of street racing and the risks involved with high speed car races.

I disagree about NFS Shift 2. I wanted to love it, and I loved the first one. They just made the cars handle like crap. Most of them feel like they pivot from the center of the car. It makes the "fun" a lot harder to swallow when you can't keep a world class sports car on the track, and not for lack of skill, but for lack of good physics, and driving dynamics. I really like the helmet cam view, and the way it is so visceral. Lets hope they fine tune it for part 3.

jimbobwahey4646d ago

I think that the unfortunate physics in Shift is an absolute tragedy, because for me, the game surpasses Forza and Gran Turismo in every other area.

The career mode is excellent (both the variety and unique race objectives), the track list is pretty much the best I've ever seen in a racing game, the sound is superb, the damage system is perfect and there are so many other cool little touches (being able to works convert any car, and neat stuff like upgrading the cockpit etc).

It's a shame that Slightly Mad Studios had a big falling out with EA after the game released, and it's guaranteed that we'll never see a Shift 3 (which is a real shame since I imagine they would have introduced weather and finally got the physics right). However, the upcoming Project CARS which looks utterly amazing and does in fact have a solid physics engine, is being developed by the same team and is scheduled for release on PC, PS3, 360 and Wii U sometime next year apparently.

Race 07 pc is giving me lots of joy.
