Here I stopped reading at "The Xbox 360 is a much better console than the slow PS3."

Denial is the first stop to acceptance. ;)

jwatt5257d ago

I'll admit Ms hit big with Kinect but much like the wii once you go too casual I really don't care much. It's the same reason why I consider the console war between the ps3 and 360, I don't care how much your selling don't forget about the harcore!

guigsy5257d ago

Actually it's by a forum member of CVG so you can stop with the alleged website bias straight away.

Corepred45257d ago

then why should we care anymore about what a forum member thinks?

DSI5257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

@Prcko - READ THE DAMN ARTICLE AND STOP WITH THE BLIND TROLLING!

on topic: I think the article as a whole is simple garbage. Each motion control system has it positives and negatives. What bothers one guy is not issue for another, just as what one guy may this is the best thing since sliced bread, another may see a nothing big.

HolyOrangeCows5257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

"The Xbox 360 is a much better console than the slow PS3"
Wow.

PS3 and 360 sold neck and neck over the holidays and the PS3 outsold the 360 in total in 2010...how is MS and Kinect "winning by a country mile"?

"Actually it's by a forum member of CVG so you can stop with the alleged website bias straight away"
CVG still approved of it, though, silly.

MintBerryCrunch5257d ago

"Kinect and Microsoft are winning by a country mile"

AND yet 90% of the article consisted of bashing Move...way to remain objective

its really hard to think that people get paid to do this, but then i watch Fox news and realize that there will always be an audience for pointless and misleading crap

DaTruth5257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

Than why is the Ps3 outselling the 360?

Yes, the 360 is "winning by a country mile"... at losing!

Edit: MS messed up when they watched while Sony put out Kung Fu Live; best camera based game ever! If any game should have been for Kinect, it should have been that one! Me and my stepson had a blast with it! I would buy it, but I lack the space necessary to play effectively and my background sucks!!

bluwulf5257d ago

Welp,

CVG finally came out of the closet. Glad they just plain admit they still dont like the ps3.

Anon19745257d ago

Wow. What a disappointing article. Anyone who wants a real comparison of the two motion controls, look elsewhere. This article quickly just devolves into a PS3 bitchfest.

"Blu-Ray's too slow." Really? Because the studies done show that the constant speed of Blu-Ray is very comparable to the 360's DVD drive's variable speed when dealing with dual layered DVD's. And Uncharted says hi.

Right there you know the author didn't bother to check his facts. He claims to own both consoles and moans about drive speed...guess what. I own both consoles as well and I've never, ever felt like the PS3 was in any way slower. Even when direct comparisons are done, load times differ by only a few seconds, and even then it can go either way.

Just don't bother giving this article hits. It's not worthy. Shouldn't have even been approved. Baseless garbage from one of their forum's posters.

YodaCracker5257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

@DaTruth "Than why is the Ps3 outselling the 360?"

Uh... it's not! And it hasn't for a single week since Kinect's release.

Inside_out5257d ago

While there is no doubt M$ shocked and awed everyone over the holidays...shockingly...Sony still managed to sell alot of consoles while having NO GAMES...O_o

I know, I know...they had a car sim come out in December and Sony move but M$ had Halo Reach, Fable and Kinect...I couldn't believe the numbers...something like 6+ million for Sony.

I believe it was people buying the blu-ray and believing it was a good deal to invest in PS3 because it's a gaming console as well...maybe the adds are starting to work for Sony...it only does everything.

M$ is greedy...there's a shock. They could easily have sold Kinect for $80-90 and still made a big profit. It has already been shown that Kinect costs around $50 in parts. The console with the new upgrades is incredibly profitable and M$ could easily sell it like or very close to the price of the Wii...they won't of course and in the meantime are happy to let Sony dictate the price. Expect a major price drop for Holiday 2011 from M$...maybe sooner depending how things go at E3.

ThanatosDMC5257d ago

^360 has been out in the market for 5 years. PS3 for 4 or so years. Both close to 50M consoles. Think about it.

ComboBreaker5256d ago

Move, on the other hand, is the clear winner for gamers.

Thatguy-3105257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

Don't really see how the motion controls will decide the winner. I mean we all saw how kinect destroyed the move In sales but at the end of the day Sony only needs 3 more million to catch up to the xbox360. If all the information about sales are correct then Sony should surpass Microsoft at the end of this year with or without the help of the playstatiom move.

rrw5257d ago

i actually surprised that even if kinect work that well it had little to no effect on the gap. probably so that make it stop smaller. but really this good indication that if MS make biggest push on xbox. ps3 still win

Joni-Ice5257d ago

I stop reading when I seen its a opinion piece.

5257d ago
TBM5257d ago

you know winning by a country mile is like by say 40 million plus units, not 3 million. as for the motion control wars i'll go with the one that works for core games.

so Move it is, frankly i don't see the purpose of kinect with the casual shovelware that i don't support. i know people keep spouting on about the japanese games that are going to be made for it, but until i see working proof of it i'll save my $150 for actual core games.

also i'd like to know how a game like steel battalion with a control with over 100 buttons would work for a motion camera with NO BUTTONS.

Death24945257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

it still outsold the 360 last year by 3 million with a $100 price difference. EA revenue showed that in 2009 ps3 only brought in 19% of their sales while 360 brought in 27%. But in the recent release ps3 and 360 both brought in 24% of EA revenue. Looks like 360 install base is stagnant and ps3's install base is growing. This is all by the numbers CVG, google it. Microsoft announce January 9th that they have reached 50 million sold worldwide. Sony's report shows as of December 31 2010 they have sold 47.9 million worldwide. I'm certain by the time of Microsoft's announcement at CES that Sony pushed out more than 100k in a week WW. So that puts Sony at 48million shipped and Microsoft at 50 million shipped. That's only a 2million console difference.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

Read em' and weep loser. Ps3 out sold 360 last year by 3 million, so what do you think is going to happen this year? Think about what would happen if Sony decides to drop the price of the ps3 to that sweet spot?

eliasg5256d ago

Prcko, i like the way you argue about the topic, simply fanboystic !!

DevastationEve5256d ago

It's good to see Microsoft's labor paying off. They made a great console even better and also made it a solid competitor to PS3's Move and the Wii.

Whoever has beef with them now they really got nothing much to say anymore.

Xbox still on top, oh yeah! Go Packers!

PSMove, just needs better original software since it lacks the huge marketing budget support.

fight4lov5257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

i agree with you. anyone mind telling me the best move game available right now? i bet its gonna be a crappy party game. They need a sword game like zelda or something.

**at below**
listen lb2, killzone 3 and mag are not made for the move there just an options and personally i wouldn't waste 80$ on move so i can play it with those games. when i mean move games i mean made for the move. sorcery is the only game that looks promising and it'll come out months after moved launched.

i think kinect is pure trash but at least there bringing out multiple games for it. of course they'll all suck suck but there still bringing games out something which can't be said for the move.

Pixel_Enemy5257d ago

Yeah move has stupid games like Killzone, MAG, and LBP2. Why doesn't move have awesome games like Dance Central and Kinect Adventures?!

Sharingan_no_Kakashi5257d ago

Best move only game out right now is The Fight. And in spite of all the bad reviews the game is pretty solid. I'd give it a 7.5-8. The best game out with move support is hard to say. MAG, Heavy Rain, LBP2 and soon KZ3. Depends on your preference. Move has a much better line up than kinect.

clrlite5257d ago (Edited 5257d ago )

I'll agree with you on one thing for sure. There should already be a really cool 1:1 sword game built from the ground up for PS Move. KZ3 kicks ass with Move though. You should try it.

I understand Sony and MS are business partners, but there are still people here in the US that think Xbox has more games. I wish Sony's marketing was a little better here.

BTW, this article is just stating one guy's(probably a fanboy) opinion. Apparently not many people agree with him.

DFresh5257d ago

I think Sorcery is that game.
It's a game build from the game up for PS Move.
Looks, plays, and runs great.
If there's any game that would make me want to try out Move that game would be it.
Look at some footage on youtube it's pretty cool.
Another interesting feature about that game that I saw when when the player did a chugging motion and the player on screen drank the mana potion.
E3 2010 at the Sony Conference.
Does anybody remember that but me?

Rumors of Turn 10 being either shut down or hit with massive lay offs is on the horizon.

The issue is MS will do something right only to do something very, very wrong. And they do this what seems calculative at this point. Doesn't matter what they do the Investors and leadership want more and more money an endless bottomless pit of purr insatiable greed. A company that acts like it's broke or hurting is what really, really infuriates me. They've surpassed apple again well over 3 trillion who acts like they're a million dollar company is fk stupid. Pivots and changes for no reason and can't do things for more than a year with out a pivot or changing their metrics.

"just like Sony"

Gosh you're insufferable, not everything needs to be both-sides'd. Sony's had layoffs, but nothing like what Microsoft has been doing and is continuing to do.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I mean, no offense, but this is why you’re not some corporate business person running a major corporation. Big profits don’t mean jobs are safe. Do you understand why things like this happen:

Cutting jobs to maintain or increase profitability, especially in underperforming divisions like parts of Xbox like other gaming divisions.

Corporate restructuring and relocating resources for strategic stability in ever changing markets and consumer behaviors.

Investor expectations and optimizing operations to maintain investor confidence. Whatever boosts stock prices and improves future margins.

And there’s many other factors at play. It’s never as simple as business doing well, everyone’s safe. That’s just you not understanding at all how corporations work and have been working since the beginning. This isn’t something that’s specific to Xbox, you can bet your ass Sony and Nintendo do this and if it’s not clear by now, game development is not a stable job nor has it ever been for many. A lot of developers are contractors and guess what happens when a project is done?

Ganif4d ago

Nintendo said they have no plans for layoffs, and you can't seriously claim that the scale of Sony's layoffs most of which involved Bungie which is self managed as even close to the same scale as what Microsoft has done since they purchased Zenimax. And that significantly less layoffs would have happened if those publishers had stayed independent. Keep in mind that much of these layoffs have been due to redundancies specifically related to these buyouts.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Ganif

Nintendo:

https://gamerant.com/ninten...

Sony:

https://gamerant.com/playst...

https://techxplore.com/news...

I don’t think it’s realistic to treat Sony’s layoffs as somehow outside the norm for the industry right now. Even if Bungie is self-managed, Sony’s cuts went far beyond that like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, London Studio being shut down completely, and multiple teams across the globe took hits. These weren’t just minor adjustments.

Nintendo, I had to look up and you’re right. They seem to be an outlier, but rest assured at some point it happens. And even then there’s been layoffs, albeit a smaller amount and contractors.

Would fewer layoffs have happened if studios from acquisitions stayed independent? Maybe. But even independents have been hit hard and look at what’s happened with Embracer’s fallout, or smaller devs like Digic, Roll7, or Volition. This isn’t just a “Microsoft problem” or strictly tied to acquisitions; it’s a broader correction happening across the whole industry, and unfortunately, layoffs are a big part of that process right now.

Ganif4d ago

From your article:

"According to reports, Nintendo of America restructured its testing operations, leading to layoffs of about 120 contractors, part of a strategy for global integration.

Nintendo of America, publisher of iconic franchises like Mario and Zelda, is shifting some contractors to full-time roles for better development integration."

Contractors are not employees, and even if you want to count them as that, it's 120 people vs around 7500 since Microsoft purchased Zenimax.

In an era of game industry layoffs, Nintendo is hiring more people

Nintendo CEO’s refusal to layoff staff goes viral following industry-wide cuts
"Satoru Iwata took pay cuts to ensure staff didn’t have to be let go"
https://www.nme.com/news/ga...

And as for Sony you're comparing less than 1000 total jobs to an estimated7500

Has the industry faced layoffs, yes, but that still doesn't account for the mass layoffs due to redundancies that was easily predictable, or that fact that at least 1/3 of Microsoft's layoffs and studio closures happened before the industry downturn.

Sony Faces Class Action in the Netherlands Over Allegedly Inflated PlayStation Store Prices

Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation in the Netherlands has filed a class action against Sony for inflating PlayStation Store prices.

dveio4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

My personal opinion:

Manufacturers and publishers have indeed inflated the industry.

From $700 million development costs for games like Call of Duty, to digital (store) prices for games and DLCs, online multiplayer fees on consoles (why can you play Helldivers 2 online for free on PC but not consoles?) or still preventing sell/lend digitally purchased games.

Sometime in the future, this bubble will collapse.

They should know better, but they just can't help themselves and suck even the last penny out of our wallets.

BeHunted4d ago

Because Sony knows people will be forced to pay those prices for single player and multiplayer games, not everyone prefers PC gaming. Sony also has a monopoly on PlayStation digital games. In 2019, they stopped allowing retailers and game key sellers to sell PlayStation digital games, making them available only through the official PlayStation Store

anast4d ago

The Dutch gov. wants a piece of the pie.

Eonjay4d ago

They should be suing the individual publishers increasing the prices to $80 instead of suing the store. There are plenty of publishers still selling game for like $50 with much success (like E33). But this proves that the publishers are the ones setting the prices.... so again nothing changes because they aren't even going after the main offender. How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD? Sony being the number one store in the market doesn't mean that publisher have to charge us an arm and a leg. Again the industry is laughing at us because consumers never get real representation. Just these fake platitudes that are meaningless.

BeHunted4d ago

"How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD"

Because Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly, I can purchase Call of Duty at a huge discount from CDKeys or other gaming retailers. The only way to purchase digital PlayStation games is through the PlayStation Store.

djl34854d ago

Weird, I swore GoW, Stellar Blade, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU, etc. were on the steam store....uh.....

BeHunted4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@djI3485

I'm talking about PlayStation games that you can only purchase on PlayStation. I can purchase Steam and Epic games from 3rd party retailers and key stores.

"Sony to stop selling full-game download codes at retailers"

Killer2020UK4d ago

About time. There is zero fair reason why digitally distributed products that you cannot recoup any value when you want to dispose of them, should be priced higher than that of physical copies that entail all of the costs and the benefits of owning.
