How Angry Birds Is Becoming the Next Super Mario

Some tech observers previously dubbed Angry Birds the new Pac-Man, but that wasn’t enough for the game’s makers.

“What we’re doing is we’re building out the Angry Birds world,” said Peter Vesterbacka, whose business card title reads “Mighty Eagle” of Rovio. “Pac-Man is only one game. Mario is a better benchmark.”

I haven't played it on the PS3, only my Iphone 4 but I can't imagine how it would be so enjoyable on the PS3.

We all know Angry Birds is designed around a touch screen experience.

Am guessing you just use the analog stick on the PS3 to aim then a button to use there special powers right?

I had my doubts re: the controls as well however, the game plays beautifully on the PSP and PS3. Thumbstick/Analog to pull back and aim, X to fire and X again to use the secondary function when in flight.

Takes a couple of minutes to get use to but once you do its fantastic. Best thing is that your fingers no longer get in the way of what you're watching.

I can see it being the next...Tetris. Angry Birds is one of the most addictive games I've played!

Angry Birds is a great way to kill time while waiting for the bus, but comparing a simple yet fun mobile game to a legendary game that changed gaming for ever is just silly.

That wasn't the point he was trying to make, Angry Birds is a good game in it's own right.

It's well designed simple and enjoyable for me the best traits in gaming, better then graphics are raw horsepower anyway.

But Mario is in a league of it own, the same way Zelda cannot be touched.

Pac-Man possessed them same traits Angry Birds does, Using Pac Man in an insulting manner just shows how little you really understand gaming.

Because Pac Man is an awesome game.

Yeah, I've played games exactly like angry birds on the internet years before it came out and now people are acting like its the 'greatest' game ever.

I played the PC version, and although it doesn't have touch screen controls, I can't see why people piss themselves over it even with the novelty of using your finger. It's just a run of the mill flash game, and a very simplistic one at that. Browser games like fantastic contraption are fare better, but I guess with word of mouth spreading over places like Twitter, any old shit can be successful.

It was fun for about 10 minutes, it's more of a time killer much like mine sweeper.

Simple mechanics to appeal to casuals but with a difficulty curve to appeal to a hardcore audience?

If you take the Nintendo Nostalgia glasses off, you'd see it's not a completely ridiculous comparison.

Can Angry Birds maintain quality of Mario levels for 25 years? That I doubt.
