ARS: Mass Effect 2 on PS3: an amazing game loses some impact‎

ARS: There simply aren't enough hours in the day to play Mass Effect 2 in its entirety one more time, so keep in mind that this review will be based on playing the first few hours of the game in order to come to a judgment about the porting process and how well the game runs on the PlayStation 3. If you'd like a full critique of the game itself, minus the DLC that's included in the PlayStation 3 package, you can read our original review. We're concerned with how well the experience holds up for PlayStation 3 fans; we already know the game itself is top-notch.

We're also not going to pop in the 360 version and look at them side by side, because that's the sort of pointless flame-baiting that just leads to arguments in the discussion as opposed to actual, usable information. We'll keep our memories of the 360 version a healthy glow in our mind, realizing that not many gamers will be playing both versions next to each other.

Lookin' for hits.....

Edit:@ Below I agree and they say in the first paragraph its not a full review of the game. Well I'm saying then don't blog this, its a waste of time and you're looking for hit with an eye catcher title. That and a negative is "it has a lengthy install." Really? Grasping at straws.

At least they admit it: "We're also not going to pop in the 360 version and look at them side by side, because that's the sort of pointless flame-baiting that just leads to arguments in the discussion as opposed to actual, usable information"

LOL

Don't know why its so difficult for certain people on this site to accept another person's negative opinion on game they like. In the mind of the fanboy, if ONE game you enjoy gets a less than perfect score from a site...the entire site is biased somehow.

Don't get me started on the people who bitch about the difference between a 9.5 and a 9.6. THESE are the ones that truly have serious mental issues to work out.

dalibor4846d ago

Don't forget that it's not all about linking the score to a website, it also matters on why did it get that score. If the reasoning is somehow faulty meaning it doesn't add up than what gives? There has to be a line drawn somewhere but gamers need to realize when not to step over the line as well. But if multiplatform games are the same, rate them the same. I have been fooled by reviews before and I have my defense up now not to be fooled again. I have put my foot down lmao.

One could argue that Anand is bigger. And if you include aggregators slashdot is almost certainly bigger.

Why because it's on PS3 now? I don't get it, on Xbox it's a 9.6 and on the PS3 it's a 9.5 dam man it's the same game, so how can they rate one high then the other.

eferreira4846d ago

ign gave it a 9.5 because they only do a 20 point review scale. otherwise it would be the same.

jarrod19814846d ago

same as when gamespot went to 20 point scale. oblivion got a 9.6 on 360 and when the ps3 version came out it got a 9.5 because of the change in grading scale. Its .1 point difference, who cares?

Blacksand14838d ago

If it's the same game it should have the same score

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
