Xbox LIVE Users Log Over 1 Billion Hours a Month

Following the rush of figures revealed by Microsoft’s Chief Executive Office, Steve Ballmer, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last week, more details on the success of the Xbox LIVE service have come to light today. As part of an update for advertisers interested in working with Microsoft, Mark Kroese, General Manager of the Advertising Business Group in the Entertainment & Devices Division, has stated that, “Cumulatively, Xbox LIVE users are logging over 1 billion hours a month on the service.”

Wonder how much is spent online on the Wii...

OH WAIT! Not many people go on the online multiplayer on a wii. I mean, no offence to the Wii, but is there really any point to online on Wii games? I mean I remember Pokemon Revolution online.... I was bored out of my mind.

UPDATE: You can't do half as much as what you do on a 360/PS3.

divideby02839d ago (Edited 2839d ago )

I contributed to that amount..but what a useless stat...
I turn on my 360, log into Live and just let it sit until I am ready to play a game. So there are countless hours of gamers just logged in and doing NOTHING.
A bud leaves his consoles and PCs on all the time. I dont understand that.

and a PSN stat like this is also the same

UnwanteDreamz2839d ago (Edited 2839d ago )

Wow I was going to say a stat like that from the PSN would be useless because my PS3 gets turned on and logged on as soon as I walk in the door even if I wont be playing it.

So same with some 360 users?

EDIT: Normally I wouldn't say something like this but if you disagree with divideby0's logic you are an idiot.

SquirrelT2839d ago (Edited 2839d ago )

@ divideby0 - Even adding that last line wasn't enough to avoid you disagreements. I guess some people want to believe that every minute someone spent on Xbox live is a minute where they're intellectually, socially and spiritually benefited. Or maybe they use time spent online as a weapon in the console wars. Who knows?

DelbertGrady2839d ago (Edited 2839d ago )

It would be nice to see some user activity numbers from Sony though. Considering how much they like to brag about having "60 million PSN accounts".

@BrianG - Well, Sony and Nintendo then. They both have online services that compete with Xbox Live. I think they are pretty relevant to this article. I also think that if either of them had numbers comparable to the activity on Xbox Live they would have posted them a long time ago.

BrianG2839d ago (Edited 2839d ago )

It would be nice if you like these kinds of things, but I am willing to bet its close to this stat anyways if not higher because of the increased number of users from PS3's and PSP's and the fact that PSN is free.

Even if people are not playing games, they might be signed into PSN, just like Live. So I'd expect a big number.

But besides that, what does Sony have to do with this article?

BrianG2839d ago

I had no clue these numbers were so important for consumers, important enough to drag 2 other companies who are not even relevant to this article.

Thats like dragging Killzone into a Halo article, wouldn't be cool would it? But now it is?

Does it make your gameplay better?

Chaos692839d ago

No wonder they don't comment that much on N4G; they're busy playing games.

k-Lan2839d ago

I know you don't dreamer. With your logic, it's the PS users who have no games to play since there are so many of you on the interwebz all day long defending your precious console.

UnwanteDreamz2839d ago (Edited 2839d ago )

LMAO you are fn funny you little stalker.

You mad? Want a tissue to cry into? Just keep PM'ing me your BS instead of embarassing yourself in front of everybody.

FYI I used his logic against him. For someone who likes to correct spelling mistakes and thinks highly of his own intelligence you sound pretty dumb.

RedRedSuitSDF2839d ago (Edited 2839d ago )

LMAO... good one.

UnwanteDreamz2839d ago

You either?

I guess the irony is lost on you two.

The Meerkat2839d ago

Half my time on XBL is spent streaming TV shows and movies from my PC. Does that count too?

BrianG2839d ago

Towards this stat? Sure if your logged into live.

But that is a lot of hours man.
