Shacknews has confirmed that THQ's upcoming "war at home" shooter Homefront will use the company's newly developed Online Pass for multiplayer--recently featured in UFC Undisputed 2010.
THQ's Online Pass is a single-use code that is included for free in all new copies of games sporting the "feature." Users who do not have access to a free code--whether it be from rental or purchasing the game second-hand--can purchase an online pass for $10. EA has executed a similar program to sway gamers to purchase new copies of its titles.
Jack writes: "Back in March 2011, the first-person action shooter Homefront arrived on the Xbox 360 from THQ, along with a storm of publicity which included a really cool live-action trailer"
Last week game dev Steve Thornton took to Twitter to ask: fellow devs, have you ever slipped something into a game you're working on that's just for you? The replies are well worth a read.
Deep Silver and Humble Bundle are currently offering the first Homefront game for free. This offer will last for the next 48 hours, so be sure to visit its Humble Bundle page in order to acquire your free copy.
get it! the single player is excellent and intense and the MP is pretty fun, too.
Ehh, PS4 needs these deals too, or consoles in general we always get discounts rarely free stuff that's REALLY free (games with gold / psplus isn't free)
They just lost at least one sale.
I accidentally upvoted your comment. If you buy this game new, it shouldn't be of any consequence for you.
This is barely that diffrent than what was done by ea and that didn't cause a big issue. Apparently this tactic is going to be the norm. I am getting my game on launch day so this doesn't bother me one bit.
that's not good if you're a guy who borrow games to friends occasionally.
This is a much better alternative to EA's version. I am not thrilled with the idea but until the console makers can cut some kind of deal with retail chains re-selling used games we are going to continue to see this happen.
