Resistance 3 vs. Killzone 3

"In 2011, both Insomniac Games (Resistance) and Guerilla Games (Killzone) are launching the third episode of their respective franchises. But does either have the edge to push titles like Black Ops away from Playstation dominance? And if you’re a PS3 owner looking for an FPS exclusive, where should you drop your cash? Let’s take a look at how the series’ measure up."

Yea, another awesome one! Incredible! Can't wait! 2011!

SWORDF1SH5241d ago

NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This is wrong!

This doesn't follow the N4G code!

You need to compare a PS3 exclusive with a 360 exclusive!

Even if it isn't from the same genre it must be a 360 Vrs PS3 exclusive. It's the way its always been!

Now Killzone Vrs Fable or Resistance Vrs Forza would make a lot more sense.

deafwing5241d ago

kind of agree not sure how the flame wars will turn out now

both games have my interest though

ksense5241d ago (Edited 5241d ago )

People that like multiplayer will like killzone and the people that are looking for single player and coop will like resistance. Killzone does seem like they improved a lot tho.

Anyways I play multiplayer on my PC and I suck at aiming with controllers on consoles. therefore I am more interested in resistance. getting both anyways.

ABizzel15241d ago

@Ksense

I think you nailed it on the head. I like Killzone's single player, but the multiplayer is it's bread and butter.

And I like dabbing in Resistance's multiplayer, but the single player, co-op, and local multiplayer (from R1) was where I spent most of my time with this franchise.

They are two different beast, and both deserve their inevitable success.

Active Reload5241d ago

thief...your point is moot when the 360 is more than capable of running games you described. Don't mention the 360 in a PS3 article especially when you don't know what you're talking about. That defines a troll...

pangitkqb5241d ago (Edited 5241d ago )

I'll be getting both. I'm more interested in the Resistance story-line, particularly post-Nathan Hale, and the fact that it has a co-op campaign, but Killzone 3 is still going to be a good time.

We all win on this one.

King_of _the_Casuals5241d ago (Edited 5241d ago )

I've tried to like Resistance but I just can't! I think it comes down to the control of the game!

but I LOVE Killzone 2!!!! One of the best shooters, no matter what system. (Part 1 wasn't that good though)

TheLastGuardian5241d ago

Killzone and Resistance have always been like brothers imo. If this was a PS3 only site we would fight over whether Killzone or Resistance is better. I like Resistance a little bit more but I'm getting both KZ3 and R3.

Kevin ButIer5241d ago

Killzone fanbois vs Resistance Fanbois... gotta love that

TheFreak5241d ago (Edited 5241d ago )

wtf kz2 sp was so fing good. I know the story was not it's strong point, but the gameplay and enemy ai is what separates the killzone series from other shooters, it's pure brilliance. And the graphics off course is top notch.

I do not know about resistance 1 I have not played it, but resistance 2 is miles away from kz2 sp and mp. I am getting both though

ABizzel15241d ago

Resistance 1 to many was better than Resistance 2. You should really go back and try it. It's aged ok, but the weapon wheel, co-op, and everything keeps it very entertaining. Call a friend over a play it together.

TheGreat_15241d ago

Resistance 1 was definitely better than R2. I liked KZ2's SP but not so much of the MP. I like both, but for the most part I prefer KZ's SP and Resistance MP.

I just had so much fun with KZ2's hit response system, so realistic and so satisfying. On the other hand, Resistance 1 kept me busy for a year on the MP, hunting down humans as Chimera with their rage just made me feel like Predator on steroids.

And the match-type where you start out as human then if you die you spawn as a Chimera, I forget the name of it, it's been too long...I may purchase Resistance again to hold me off...

MTEC85241d ago

Getting both, good thing the release dates are pretty far apart.

Tru_Ray5241d ago

I will also be purchasing both games. I am not sure if prefer one over the other. Some things you like for breakfast and other things are good for dinner. Both of the franchises are awesome IMO.

Killzone is more hardcore and Resistance is more casual. I played R:FOM more than any other FPS on the PS3. The fun factor on that game was through the roof (it also did not have much competition at the time of release).

RedDragan5241d ago

Getting both but Killzone is my preferred destination. I don't know if it is an older person thing or what?!

For me, I just feel more in line to accept the surroundings given in Killzone because it is essentially WW2 given a lick of futurisitic paint. I love how the Helghast are like Nazi's as reports say (although to be honest, they have more resmeblence to the Japanese Empire in WW2). While the ISA are more Russia in the latter part of WW2 than compared to the Allies. Essentially after being attacked heavily, they then go on the attack in a horrible, ruthless way and are indeed very discriminatory even before the wars began at all.

In the single players game, the nature of the duck and cover system on Elite level is more frenetic than any other shooter. Essentially warlike. You cannot run and gun in this game on the harder levels. Lots of people claim they can yet they never, ever prove it and what they say is always taken by a pinch of salt by even the best online players, who readily say that Elite makes the game masterful and the duck and cover the most important part of the game. It is a shame most people never play it at that level though.

Either way though, these are two games that I will be adding to my collection, no doubt about that. Even if they were to be released in 2013... the 2012 impending disaster would not be able to stop me from playing them!

himdeel5241d ago

...a vs between a single console exclusive. None of that multiplatform two different genre of games crapola we usually see. Both games looks very good, but from seeing Killzone 3 in action I don't think Resistance 3 can beat it visually but it's going to be a good fight comparing the two games.

dredgewalker5241d ago

Even if there's gonna be a comparison I will definitely get both and enjoy the heck out of these games.:)

Happy New Year to all!

the_best_player5241d ago

yeah you can't call you self a gamer if you don't own a PS3 in 2011 with all these games coming out! :D

jammy_705241d ago

Both Awesome games, but always though resistance was more fun to play...

Lou-Cipher5241d ago (Edited 5241d ago )

Yeah, I like the Resistance franchise a bit better than the Killzone franchise myself.

Still think Resistance:Fall of Man is easily the best shooter made this generation. The second one was good, but not even close to as good as the first.

I want Socom 4 more than Killzone 3 or Resistance 3 though. I was really bummed that they delayed it to 2011. Cant wait for Socom :)

BattleAxe5241d ago

This is going to be the best year in gaming history! I can't choose between KZ3 and R3, and I won't! I'm buying both. Top this off with Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 2 and Crysis 2, this is insane.

Resistance 3 vs. Killzone 3
and the winner is............PS3 owners.

hikayu5241d ago

isnt it obvious ?
winner = gamer
loser = our poor wallets

karl5241d ago

nono ..

winner = ps3 gamers

losers =360 owners... i cant call them gamers since they have no games to GAME!!

DARK WITNESS5240d ago

@ karl

well I am a 360 owner, yet I will be playing both games.

there is such a thing as owning both and not loosing at all.

killzone vs resistance.. I am more likely to pick up killzone. Killzone 2 was good, it was not my favorite FPS, but it was good. Resistance 2 i was not impressed at all. It will take a lot to convince me to buy the next one.

the only losers are people who limit their outlook and judge others off the back of it.

play your games and have fun.

5241d ago
Nitrowolf25241d ago

Getting both, Killzone 3 i will be the only FPS i play till Resistance 3 comes out.

dinkeldinkse5241d ago

Only two FPS franchises I still care about.

acky15241d ago (Edited 5241d ago )

same here. The only place to play FPS is on the ps3.
____________
Sony 'til I die

BattleAxe5241d ago

"The only place to play FPS is on the ps3"

Thats why I'll also be getting Crysis 2 for PS3 :)

TooTall195241d ago

I will be getting both as well, but you should also consider Brink if you're looking for something fresh every once in a while.

SnakeMustDie5241d ago

Get both, you won't regret it

ForzaGT5241d ago

In the battle of ps3 exclusive fps killzone 3 will come on top for me

vickers5005241d ago

If Resistance 3 is anything like Resistance 1, then it will kick Killzone 3s ass.

Although KZ has better graphics, Resistance has the better and more fun gameplay and much better maps (Manchester from R1 > every Killzone 2 map).

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic162d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23162d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger153d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.

Sony needs to remake the trilogy on ps5

CrimsonWing69176d ago

I’d rather them do a new game in the world of Resistance.

Cacabunga176d ago (Edited 176d ago )

I honestly liked the first one most..
killzone 2 and 3 outshined Resistance 2 and 3 for me in every aspect.

Eonjay176d ago

I absolutely adored Resistance 3 but they do not NEED to remake this game. They should do something that they enjoy and if it is Resistance then so be it.

Mr_cheese176d ago

Loved resistance 3, played the whole thing on co op with the move controller and gun, was very different!

Resistance 2 online was the best

gamerz176d ago

Me too, but also on a 3D tv! R3 was one of the few games that got plastic rifle panning motion right.

isarai176d ago

Such a criminally underrated series, id love a remaster collection of the trilogy.

preciousdeath176d ago

Yes! ...and make them PSVR2 compatible.

Pedrof176d ago

Not a classic in my opinion ; a pretty mediocre PS3 shooter as far as I'm concerned, not bad, not the worst of the trilogy, but certainly not great. Killzone 2 was miles ahead of it (and of most FPSs even today as far as I'm concerned).

pwnmaster3000176d ago

Naw man.
Resistance 1 will always be GOATed for me.
I remember playing all night on multiplayer. Such a fun game.

P_Bomb176d ago

Ah yeah, R1! I cut my teeth on the one-shot Walmart map, lol! Miss that.

gamerz176d ago

Played that demo soooooo many damn times since it was the only thing to play for a while at launch. That and motorstorm.

refocusedman176d ago

killzone was amazing but resistance was great as well. althpugh theybwrre both fps, I think that served different purposes.

JEECE176d ago

Thanks for turning Insomniac into a Marvel studio.

ApocalypseShadow176d ago (Edited 176d ago )

Although I agree on original games and creativity over licensed IP, especially something like Ghost of Tsushima. But Sony's looking at that series selling less and less overall with the 3rd estimated to not even sell 2 million. Gamers who say they loved it didn't really buy it.

While Spiderman the series has sold over 50 million not counting PC. And Spider-Man 2 is over 11 million so far. If you had their business and had to make their decisions, what would you do in their shoes?

JEECE176d ago

@ApocalypseShadow

Umm, that's exactly my point lol. Insomniac made great, original IP games and people didn't buy them because they were too busy lapping up yearly CODs and Assassin's Creeds, so naturally Sony/Insomniac had to pivot to something else.

Knushwood Butt176d ago

So you are saying 1 was the worst?
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree.

I'll start with what I didn't like about 3:
- OK, Nathan Hale is gone but new player character totally forgettable. Can't even remember their name.
- Awful forced in 3D. Just look at KZ3 for 3D done well.
- Online multiplayer that paled in comparison to 1 and 2. Put hundreds of hours into the first two. Probably less than 10 hours into 3.
- Campaign was OK but I played the other two more, especially 1.

Pedrof175d ago

1 had my favorite gunplay of the trilogy (no need for COD iron sight) so I guess my worst would be 2. At least 3 wrapped up the storyline, supported the move controller and had prettier graphics. But in my book, none of the three really stood out. From that era, I prefered Singularity for example and obviously Killzone 2.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor728d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar728d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg728d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149728d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138728d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim728d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC728d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138728d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle728d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76728d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger728d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca728d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy728d ago (Edited 728d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain728d ago

Imalwaysright728d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
