So…. Who should really play Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie?

Zavvi.com: "Because they’re so well written, genuinely compelling and painstakingly cinematic, it has always seemed inevitable that Sony’s Uncharted series would be adapted for the big screen at some point. Those first two (masterful) Uncharted titles are perhaps two of the very finest action adventure games released during the current console generation – and quite possibly ever. But because Nathan Drake is such a..."

It's not 1977 anymore. Harrison Ford has played the President of the US. He's too old to play Drake.

Focker4205229d ago (Edited 5229d ago )

I'm sure the horde of Nathan Fillion fangirls will show up soon so I'm just going to say this. He is not right for the part. Yes you may 'think' he looks like Drake, but so what, a ton of people do. Nathan Drake is a young, agile, and slender character. Nathan Fillion is simply too old, he doesn't look like a very agile person, and he is definitely heavier than Drake.

I just keep picturing Nathan Fillion trying to climb up a falling train, or making leaps of faith from rooftop to rooftop. And everytime he doesn't make it. He simply does not look like the kind of person that would go balls to the wall and actually look right doing it.

You may like him as an actor, thats fine, but realistically think about everything Nathan Drake does. Nathan Fillion is not that guy.

Drake is also a ladies man, keep that in mind as well.

QuodEratDemonstrandm5229d ago

@Focker420
I haven't seen Nathan Fillion do any real action oriented movies or tv. One episode of Lost, a bit part in Saving Private Ryan (he was the wrong Ryan) a few episodes of Buffy, and Firefly. He is a good actor, but probably not right for such an action intensive role as Nathan Drake. But now the question is.... Who? Wahlberg might be able to pull it off with the right direc-....oooooh, I have it!

Josh Duhamel.... he was the..... ranger? In Transformers. He could probably do it.

MintBerryCrunch5229d ago

Bradley Cooper can be both funny and serious...he can play both characters...he's a rising star...and movies like The Hangover and The A-Team show that he can hold his own

never_waste_a_bullet5229d ago (Edited 5229d ago )

30 years ago; yes

Edit: nvm Harrison Ford is 68, so make that 40 years ago; yes

Headquarters115229d ago

Really, who cares who plays drake in the movie, it isn't like we have any control over it. Stop with these pointless articles.

TheLastGuardian5229d ago

You know what would be better than a live action Uncharted movie? A 1 and a half hour long cutscene made by Naughty Dog. ND should at least write the script or else the movie wont be very good.

Soldierone5229d ago

I totally agree with Focker. I watched a few of his things because of all this. Yeah he looks close to Drake, but the way he acts and does things is not Drake at all. To a point he couldn't pull it off even if he wanted to. So I dont see why people want him.

To top it off, im tired of these articles. Hollywood isn't going to listen to you at all. They will first go down a line of famous names and see if any of them are interested, half of them will look nothing like Drake, then from there they will do whatever they want. If you think they will listen to Fillon cries then you are blind to their business. If it was a differnt director or crew Id understand, but this guy straight up said he wont.

lomion55229d ago

Plus he wouldn't do as good as this guy:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm...

Like I posted below.

ABizzel15229d ago

I'd rather have an Uncharted: Drake's Origins game than this movie, and I don't care who plays him as long as the movie stays true to the games, and Naughty Dog and Sony are involved in some kind of way.

Yeah good luck with that.

doa7665229d ago

@Focker420

you keep posting the same thing but you don't get it

the reason why Fillion would be the perfect Drake has nothing to do with the phisicality of the role, the fact that he kinda of looks like him it's just a plus

he's the perfect Drake because of the attitude and delivery of his lines in both Firefly and Serenity

the reason why the first Star Wars movie was so popular was Harrison Ford's Han Solo, it's been more than 30 years and no one except Fillion was able to duplicate that wisecracking, sarcastic tone so perfectly and that's why he's the perfect Drake

the age and action scenes can be faked very easily and no one will notice it's not him BUT THE ATTITUDE CAN NOT BE FAKED

get it now?

Tuxedo_Mask5229d ago

@doa766

Harrison Ford wasn't in the running to even play Han Solo until after he agreed to do George Lucas a favor and read lines for actors auditioning for other roles. He was doing carpentry work for Lucas at the time and did so well with his line reading that he was cast in the role.

Nathan Fillion may be a good actor, he may look like Drake and deliver lines in a style you associate with Drake, but that doesn't mean it's meant to be. Most of the memorable roles happen either by accident or due to the vision of the director. Don't forget that even Coppola had to fight to get Marlon Brando cast as Don Corleone since the studio saw him as a has been. Ultimately you should hope for a motivated director over anything else, someone who wants to make a good Uncharted movie or has a plausible plan for what he wants to do rather than just a guy making a video game film for a quick buck and the supposed success that comes with the recognition of the name. With a good director everything else will fall into place, but a bad one can ruin it no matter who the actors are.

doa7665229d ago

@Urizen

the problem in this is that the director has no vision, because he doesn't seem to be paying any atention to the game at all and he's just going with the film script

Three Kings ia just an average movie, I Love Huckabees is awful, haven't seen The Fighter yet but from those two movies it's clear that the director is nothing especial and he will need all the help he can get from the cast to make something that even comes close to Uncharted 2 in the storytelling regard

like you said many roles end up casted by luck and the actors make it memorable but that doesn't mean there was someone else that would be even better, Daniel Craigh is a great Bond but Clive Owen would've been perfect, just like Fillion would be teh perfect Drake even if the actors that ends up playing it nails it

AAACE55229d ago

For the last time... Nathan Drake should be played by the guy they unknowingly modeled him after... and that is James Lafferty! They look and sound almost exactly the same! Hell, Lafferty has been playing a guy named Nathan anyway so it would be an easy transition!

BkaY5228d ago

why dont they get the original cast of uncharted games..

they should be the obvious choice... anyways we have to wait and see.. so far "prince of persia" was the best games to film adaption for me..

peace

DarkFantasy5228d ago

@BkaY i agree i loved the prince of persia movie it was great i was expecting it to suck but no they pulled it off i enjoyed it,it had a good story lots of action and adventure and ostrich races!! XD i really hope they can make a good uncharted movie i don't like the guy they want to play him he just doesn't seem right and hes not funny.

syanara5228d ago

I was all over nathan filloon dfoing it until you said josh duhamel...that would be a great choice oh and BTW @Focker Nathan Fillon is a ladies man and drake is not that is what would make it a bad choice

antz11045228d ago

Nathan Fillion or, here's one out of left field:

David Boreanez

Defectiv3_Detectiv35229d ago

Karl Urban. He has a great sense of wit as seen with his portrayal of Bones in the Star Trek movie.

Steve Zhan. While primarily thought of as a comedic actor, he's shown he can also handle serious roles as well.

lastdual5229d ago

Jensen Ackles (plays Dean in Supernatural) could probably pull it off.

grifter0245229d ago

Joe Flannigan would be a better Nathan Drake.

He has the sarcastic humor that would accentuate Nathan considerably.

Gamefan125229d ago

I have mentioned Joe Flannigan before and got no replies

Charazani5228d ago

Jensen Ackles and Joe Flanigan are my picks over Fillion as well.

5229d ago
OGharryjoysticks5229d ago

Naughty Dog said they used Johhny Knoxville as the main inspiration for character design, but also said Harrison Ford was used as part of his cool. So in a perfect world an Uncharted movie would cast Knoxville as Drake and Ford as Sully.

MidnytRain5229d ago (Edited 5229d ago )

Maybe... would be better than Harrison Ford, though. But in all honesty, this whole idea is iffy. Uncharted 2 trancends 98% of all the movies I've seen. Seems pointless to try to make a movie out of it, especially if it's going to be playing catch-up to a masterpiece. Well, other than the cash the studio is trying to take from ignorant/hopefull consumers, anyway.

mastiffchild5229d ago

Yeh, I don't care cos the games' don't need the movie to be good(they already are), the film will likely suck ass and basically I'm tired of thinking anyone else cares about this.

Also, what effect do films have when they're the product of the game anyway? Very little bearing on the thing we love so, again, should we really be that arsed? It's not what I'm interested in, really, even though I just tried. Sorry, why am I here?

MidnytRain5229d ago (Edited 5229d ago )

@mastiffchild
The games are good; really good. In fact, they're everything a movie should be, plus more. I'm calling it now: This movie will suck compared to the games; it's inevitable. Uncharted 2 is like a beautiful child, it shouldn't be touched. But this movie... it's going to molest and rape that child. That scares me, it really does.

Panthers5229d ago

The thing is, playing a game and watching a movie are 2 completely different experiences. They could make a movie with the exact story and even dialog as the games and I would love to just sit back and watch it. Just like watching a movie and reading a book are different. Just because the LoTR movies were like the books doesnt mean that people who enjoyed the books couldnt also enjoy the movies. (and like with most movies, the books were better. But the movies were still masterpieces)

Even if the movie isnt as good as the game, as long as it is better than decent, I cant wait to see it.

MidnytRain5228d ago

@Panthers
That's my problem. Making a movie of Uncharted that's just "decent" is a disgrace.

These people stumping for Mark Wahlberg are probably the same sort of people who would have cast The Rock to play Frodo Baggins.

Or...

"We have to make this movie with Jet Li!" And bammo! Jet Li is the new Jason Voorhees.

Leave the studio suits out of the decision making process. Find a hardcore uncharted fan to direct, and it should turn out alright. As long as it's not Boll or Anderson.

CYBERSNAKE5229d ago

The Rock as Frodo Baggins? LOL I would love to have seen that version of Lord of the Rings

cereal_killa5229d ago

Frodo laying the smack down on your candy a$$

Parapraxis5229d ago

I'm all for Mark Wahlberg playing Drake.

DA_SHREDDER5229d ago (Edited 5229d ago )

Dude looks just like Ben Afleck. I said it before and alot of people say im wrong, but have yet to show me a better one. Nathan Fillon doesn't look anything like Drake. I think this would be Ben's ultimate role if he could pull it off, and I think he could.

Oh and if Marky Mark (Walhberg) gets the part I will not be happy.

chidori6665229d ago

nathan fillion for me...

fillion is awesome and would be great in this movie.

btk5229d ago

Antonio Banderas, Matt Daemon, Mark Wahlberg or Brad Pitt

Uncharted 2 Is the Most Important PlayStation Exclusive of All Time

In a list of games that defined the PlayStation 3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would certainly be one of the top contenders. The blockbuster sequel to 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune not only received critical acclaim and became a massive hit for Sony’s third console when it was released 15 years ago on October 13th, 2009, but it also cemented Naughty Dog’s future as a developer of cinematic, story-driven action-adventure games as opposed to its history of colorful platformers like Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter from previous PlayStation generations. To this day, Uncharted 2 stands as one of the PS3’s best exclusives and one of the most important PlayStation games of all time.

gold_drake167d ago

it was pretty good. especially the multiplayer

KyRo167d ago

I loved this era on multiplayer games from Sony. People used to call the modes tacked on multiplayer but they were enjoyable. I loved Factions even more. I'm Still gutted that the second one isn't coming out.

-Foxtrot167d ago

Yeah, that one game where it not only has an amazing single player but the multiplayer was also just as good.

A fresh a breath air with it's more "skill focused, less is more" multiplayer in a time during COD fever where every other game with online was trying to be like it.

Shame NaughtyDog eventually did do COD like things with Uncharted 3 and 4, they ruined what made the original so good. It become an over the top arcade fest in the end.

Inverno167d ago

Ironic cause the MP was basically Halo, and Bungie helped on the technical side of things too. MP was more simple back then, I've said this before but I played U2 MP religiously. I sucked at it like you have no idea, but mah gawd did I have so much fun. Can't find an MP game that hooked me like U2s these days. Then Factions came along and while it had its problem I found new religion with it. Agh damn it why did they cancel Factions 2 bruhh.

gold_drake167d ago

i had so much fun too, played almost every night with mates or cousins baha

Relientk77167d ago

It is for sure my favorite game in the series. It's such a blast to play. The train levels still hold up and are fun as hell as well as the entire game.

RaidenBlack167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

Still remember the first gameplay video ... shooting the chasing truck and then the beautiful visuals & details whilst traversing the dilapidated Nepal streets ... perfection
Too bad Sony never ported the trilogy to PC ...

RaiderNation167d ago

I would argue it's God of War.

darthv72167d ago

I'll say, the PS3 really did sequels better than people give it credit for. Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Infamous 2... all were better than their initial offerings and still hold up to this day.
