FTG Preview: DC Universe Online: PC vs PS3

"Having played both the PS3 and PC betas for DC Universe Online, I have to applaud Sony Online Entertainment and their groundbreaking attempt to bring the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) to this generation on console. I dare say…I’m actually excited for Sony? I think they may have the start of something big here. Fingers crossed"- Shanghai Six

this is the MMO gamers have been waiting on, on consoles. if your a fan of MMOs, you dont want to pass this up

UCMEandICU4892d ago

I didn't think I would ever even consider liking an MMO talk-less of playing one talk-less of considering paying subscriptions for it but wow, this game is good.

GT has this new developer commentary and from the looks of it, this game is going to be packed with content after content.

I now see how people can get lost in MMOs. Kind has an INfamous/PSN HOME vibe about it too to the open world a bit but the variety of stuff to do in just the beta is pretty good stuff.

I think may go for Life time subscription rather than month to month. I'll wait and see if they do a special deal for life time sub but I'm most definitely getting this game

UnwanteDreamz4892d ago (Edited 4892d ago )

Freezing issues aside I really am enjoying the beta. If it were not for the crazy ammount of great games coming out next year I would be getting this when it releases. I just don't have enough time.

Currently there is nothing like this on consoles.

Very much enjoying the beta... but i dont know if i have the cash/time for all the coming games and a subscription game.

Christopher4892d ago (Edited 4892d ago )

I'll be getting it for the PS3. I haven't played it in over a month, but got to level 30 with a few characters in beta already. I'm fine with voice communication in the game when I do group and the controls are perfect for gamepad use. Though, I find it a bit funny that to play with a controller on the PC you have to use a 360 controller since DS3 controllers don't work on the PC.

Need to check and see if they've updated the info, but wonder if this game will be a part of the Station Pass subscription plan as well.

One of the best moments I've had in the game was my first week as a villain exploring Gotham and accidentally running into Batman on a building top.

yatesybum4892d ago

Can you get to level 30 in the PS3 beta? Mine char seems to be stuck at level 20 and i'm not sure whether it is a level cap or a bug

Christopher4892d ago

Not sure, haven't played it on the PS3, only the PC. They may have capped levels in the latest beta since it's so widely open and they want people to have something to do when the game releases next month.

GhettoBlasStarr4892d ago (Edited 4892d ago )

I've heard rumors that this has a monthly fee, does anyone know if its true or not?? If true, how much does it cost?? On PS3 thanks

Christopher4892d ago (Edited 4892d ago )

It does. Standard costs ($12-15/month depending on the period of subscription; 1 month - 12 month options).

@GhettoBlazta: They will be the same for monthly subscription fees. You'll have a single account with a subscription and you can log in with that account on the PC or PS3 (not at the same time, though).

Edit: From GameSpy

"SOE also revealed that the game will cost $50 on PC, $60 on the PS3, include a 30-day subscription, and after that will cost $15 a month. DC Universe Online will also have a lifetime subscription option for $199."

The $199 lifetime sub is typically a good thing if you plan to play for longer than a year and want the option to come back and play without fault at any time in the future. I have a lifetime sub for LotRO and Champions Online and haven't seen them as bad investments.

GhettoBlasStarr4892d ago

Is that PC prices or PS3 prices??

NecrumSlavery4892d ago

PC Prices are like $12-15

I do believe I read somewhere that PS+ members were getting a discount of $5. i am not sure if that is $5 off, or $5 a month, or if the whole thing is bupkiss

Christopher4892d ago (Edited 4892d ago )

Most likely bupkiss on that one Necrum.

@DarkBlood: Yes, it does. Also, expect this game to take up a good 10 GB of space on your HDD in the long run. At the least.

MMOs In 2021 Retrospective: Console Edition

WTMG's Thomas Medina: "As far as I’m concerned, console MMOs have always been in a weird place. PC is where the main game is most popular. MMOs were born there, work best there, and have the vast majority of titles. Mobile is then next in line, with touchscreens and portability that adds something new while functioning well. Console gaming, on the other hand, is not portable (for the most part). Plus, it uses a controller, which is not the best instrument when your control scheme requires a thousand buttons and a cursor. That being said, there is an audience, and where there’s money to be made, publishers find a way. So here we are with some of the biggest console MMO games and how I feel they handled 2021. "

Best Superhero Video Games Available Right Now

From Xfire: "A lot of video games are designed to make players feel like a superhero. However, very few actually feature superheroes or have players take on the role of a superhero. What makes this even worse is that there are even fewer superhero video games that can be considered good."
