Both games look great, but I think that Killzone 3 is on a whole 'nother level, technically. KZ3 does all of the deferred rendering, plus split-screen or 3D. Also, it's motion-controller compatible. I just feel like it delivers more to all gamers than Gears.

Yeah both games look great. I plan to get both and I am glad that they are both releasing on different ends of the year so I can devote my full attention to each. Although LBP2 will have to fight with KZ3 for my time.

actually SOCOM 4 will destroy GEARS, i play it at e3 and saw the last builts for it and it looks much better even better then Uncharted.

SOCOM 4 will blow everybody away and its wird that in n4g were hardcore fans are does not talk about such a great game.

SOCOM 4 have amazing textures, animations, fluid fun gameplay great sound and it will have the best addicting, fun Multiplayer this year.

plus if the rumored 5 players co op for the full 10hr-14hr campaign is true, there will be no contender.

Not much to compare...4 player story based co-op, horde mode and dedicated servers. New weapons, new enemies...new everything for Gears Of War 3. Gears is in competition with itself at this stage.

Killzone looks great and is the one franchise that has potential on the PS3...it's the only reason I bought the system, but the game has been a dud so far ( KZ 1 better ) and KZ 3, graphics aside looks like it's heading down the long, dark, murky corridor of sameness. The environmental effects are great but they never turn them off losing it's effect. They tried to add some brutal melee ( like gears ) but you have no control over it. Sev still runs around like a midget while wearing a tee shirt in a snow storm while the Helghast have fur coats...O_o...gameplay and weapons haven't changed much and any game worth it's salt should have a hierarchy of villains which KZ doesn't have.

Look at this " demo "...there is more going on in this 4 minute 4 player co-op live demo than most games, KZ included have in their entire game...

Now, many Gears fans liked the way Gears looked when it launched in 2006 but people complained it was to dark...the first Gears was a CLASSIC...this was the " live " gameplay E3 demo...if this game released today it would still stand up to anything...

yeah, we really haven't seen much of both of these, and in Geow2 the "water-boss" just dropped my jaw (visually). I see no reason to Geow3 have even more scenes like this.

And btw, yes, that boss fight in KZ3 looked freaking epic!

And in the end, I propably will own both at some point. Good thing to own both consoles.

Actually it's exactly opposite. Killzone 3 has been tweaked and definitely looks a little better, but all the basic elements are pretty much the same: lighting, textures, particles, etc.

On the other hand, Gears of War 3 has real-time lighting whereas Gears 2 had no dynamic lighting and shadow system. That right there is a huge difference. It also has a much improved foliage rendering system and better post-processes like motion blur, etc.

All in all it is clear that Gear 3 is a more dramatic leap over its predecessor than Killzone 3 is over Killzone 2.

I also hate these comparisons. The reason people are going to name each other 'fanboys'. One is a FPS and the other is FPS. One is developed exclusively for the PS3 and the other exclusively for the Xbox 360. Now that I'm here i will say something about this. The Unreal Engine 3 will never beat a Uncharted/Killzone or another great PS3 exclusive engine. UE3 is a 5 year old engine (yes, i know it gets updated). Killzone 2 looks better than Gears of War 3, letalone Killzone 3. This isn't fair. End discussion.
Gears of War is a great game though, but in terms of graphics it's no contest.

Believe it or not, there are unbiased people who enjoy these comparisons. It's interesting to see how different game engines compare with eachother, much like how we like watching sports. These kinds of articles aren't just for fanboys. I own a ps3 and an xbox 360 and I enjoy seeing their exclusives go head to head, even though I will probably buy both.

I like both franchises.Always like Gears art BUT I've seen both and KZ3 looks quite a bit better in graphics terms.When me and 3 friends saw Gears 3,there was one reaction(not in a bad way)"It's Gears".
Meaning it looks good,will play well but more of the same.
KZ3 looks like an FPS bar raiser again.For 3rd person,it will be UC3 ad for open world it will be Infamous or maybe LA Noire.
