Playstation Network Platform Up and Running

Yesterday Gamespot provided a review of the latest build of Full-Auto 2 that they played at Sega's development offices..

Buried right near the end of the article was this little quote "It's also worth noting that we played Full Auto 2's multiplayer on the actual PlayStation network platform, so apparently Sony already has its online gaming infrastructure up and running well ahead of the new system's release."

Couple this with Sony releasing the 50GB Blue Ray discs (finally) and things look to be steadily falling into place...

Actually you funny dumb kid, I own a PS2, but the DVD drive gave up on me after a short time of gaming. Sony didn't want to replace for free and wanted to charge me a lot of money. So I threw it in the closet and bought an original xbox and now a 360 with premium service.

Use you brain, in life you get what you pay for. For xbox live I get a premium service that is rock solid, have tons of demos and other DLC. There is actually someone on the other end of the phone line if I need help with something. Just look at the list of features that are on xbox live you have VOIP, video messaging, text messaging, friends list, thousands of downloaded content and much more in the works like live anywhere. Now take a look at the free alternatives like Nintendo Wifi, PSP online and PS2 online, they have poor features and the connection is really poor.

I pay $60 canadian for xbox live in 1 year, I pay 10 times that for my cell phone bill.

Once again....If a game truly needs to use up 25 gigs of disc space, which I doubt will happen unless its just hd video, thats what a game being released on a duel sided hd dvd at 30 gigs is for. Or for those who don't have the hd dvd....3 dvd discs at 27 gigs of data. Storage space will not be an issue with games in the next 5 years. So you can brag that you can play a game with slow 2 speed load times that holds 25 gigs of data...and we can brag that we can play the same time and load 3 discs if needed with much faster load times. Give and take. Faster load times but at certains parts of the game completion we have to change the disc...or one disc with Slooooooooow load times. As long as we can play it, is it anything to brag about? lol....

If we were in the same city, I would invite you to my house and you can experience amazing next gen gaming NOW. due to the small selection of quality 360 titles, there's a greater chance of the same titles being purchased over and over which thus pushes those titles into the top-ten list. Games from other systems on the other hand are more diverse and thus have a smaller chance of making the top ten list, despite selling very large quantities in total. Plus the major PS2 titles such as Okami, FF7:Dirge of Cerberus, Rogue Galaxy, FFXII, and God of War II have not been released yet. (i.e. summer drought)

2x Blu-ray is roughly the same speed as 12x DVD. The only difference is that the 360's DVD drive has variable data rate. The 12x data rate only applies to the outer rim of the disc, which is hardly ever used. All other data on the disc is read at slower than 12x speed and steadily decreases as the laser reads closer to the center. Data is written from the center outwards anyway.

The RSX is a custom GPU; it's final specs have not yet been released to the general public. Yes, the PS3 has 256 Mb of Graphics memory and 256 Mb of High Bandwidth/Low Latency XDR memory for Cell. RSX can access both memory pools.

360 uses Graphics Memory for the entire system which is a great idea for the GPU but horrible for the CPU considering the high latencies of GDDR3 RAM. GPUs access large chunks of data over a broad period of time while CPUs have to access small, random pieces of data at a fast pace. 360 has a lot of bottlenecks in its architecture while PS3 was constructed with the goal of eliminating such bottlenecks, and succeeded. Microsoft has published a new set of stats for the Xbox 360, revealing healthy attachment rates for software and accessories and a high download rate for Xbox Live Marketplace.

Following the recent release of titles such as NCAA Football 2007, Prey, Chromehounds and Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth II, all of which have secured a place in the 360 top ten, the software attachment rate rose to 4.6 games per console this month. The Xbox 360 also has the highest accessory attachment rate among consumers, with 2.9 units sold per console.

Microsoft also announced that more than 80 per cent of Live users have downloaded content from Xbox Live Marketplace - bringing the total number of downloads to more than 46 million.

I can't imagine what they'd do to Katamari on the PS3. Though, it'd be nice to be able to go from the size of a grain of sand (and competing with insects) to getting so large that you start picking up asteroids, planets, solar systems... I dunno, there's some insane possibilities there. I also hope they don't get tempted to go photorealistic on us; I really liked the quirky, blocky art style. Smoother objects/characters wouldn't bother me though.

I have an hd dvd player and my 360 games look amazing de interlaced and playing in 1080p. I will repeat. I do not want a blu ray player. I will never buy a blu ray movie.
