IGN: What We Want in Borderlands 2

A lot of people sing the praises of Borderlands within the IGN office walls. While they generally agree that it was one of the best games of 2009, it doesn't take long for them to start ranting about its shortcomings. The following are just a few ways they feel Gearbox Software could change things up for its inevitable Borderlands sequel.

All I ever see IGN doing is complaining! "Oh they should have done this..." "This game was decent, it could have been better if only..."

Enough! I understand criticism but instead of demanding games why don't you hire some writers, programmers, etc and see how good of a game you can make.

The complaints about the lack of story are almost unanimous. It’s the only thing the kept me from it.

I hope Gearbox are the kind of devs that respond to player feedback, and turn this weakness into strength next time.

1 Better story
2 More online players
playing with 5-8 friends be cool notonline that but playing against another grup would be fun too.
3 Storage space/bank
4 Armor to go along with all those great weapon
5 A huge skill tree so you could play the same class like half a dozen times and it would play different everytime

there were good things and then there were bad things. I enjoyed it, but they need to look into the reasons why other people didn't enjoy it and why

one thing they need to do is have more unique designs for weapons in each weapon class. they also need to improve weapon sound cause they sound a bit weak

I didn't think the game was that good to be honest.

Apart from the multiplayer/coop, the game was not going to stand on its own merits.

I was only able to play it single player, and it was really bad. The co-op play must definitely be a requirement because I had no fun with it.

I also hated checking each weapon to see if it was slightly better, and dropping things out of my inventory every 5 seconds.

Never got to play it online, but that must be where the fun is. The art style was cool though.

All Borderlands 2 has to do for me is have a good STORY.

Everything but the 'story' drew me into the game, I can't imagine how much I'd love the game if the story was on par with the other game elements.

I had a fantastic time with Borderlands. But yeah i agree with super king the story was terrible plus the ending was just plain bad. Plus i hope they make alien weaponry better in the next one cause those weapons were almost useless in the first one.

No you're right. Alot of the weapons they just changed the colours and stats and said 'look! we got thousands of weapons!!!!!'

But story get priority though, Borderlands was a great game but the story might as well not be there.

I'll agree the story was a bit thin but some of the DLC helped with that a bit and the last DLC brought it full circle(literally) and set up Pt 2 quite nicely.
Looking forward to it.

I'd like to see character customization other than just picking from 4 generic builds.

i.e. I wouldn't mind seeing a big guy sniper or a little girl bruiser etc... Just let me pick their size, skin tone, shape, hair, and so on.

I like lots of loot , thats why I like the original , so more loots agrees with more variety and better story. I would like armors that would be a good addition more then just force field shields.

i honestly don't see the point of ign claiming to "want" in the next borderlands due to the fact that they will just nitpick the hell out of that game and give it at most an 8.0, at the rate they been rating games hell i wouldn't be surprised.

Surely the addition of friendly AI is what's needed the most?
The shooting mechanics were spot on but the world felt so lifeless seeing as the only characters who didn't shoot at you just stood in the same spot, lifeless all the time.

Compare that to Oblivion's incredibly detailed world and Borderlands was very lacking in that special something.

Loved the game.

Weapons were stupid so many different types that didn't do any better the the ripper i got at lvl 10 with fire dmg.

They need to add armor elements to make it so looting doesnt come worthless and boring after a couple hours. they need to make the AI harder was to easy on hard. its either you are way to weak so you come back in 1 level and all the sudden your way to powerful.

Greta game but had many problems and issues.

Did you actually play the game?

You can get sheilds with elemental defense,
weapons get drastically better in the upper levels
there is no hard level

Doesnt sound to me like you actually played it... at least in any kind of depth

The weapons dont get that much better even after fighting that final monster in the General Add-on and getting those thousand guns i would not trade in my pistol that i got early game with fire damage.

All the guns and looting got boring as sin they were very little differnce in the guns and the shields were weak.

Armor elements does not equal elemental armor it means that a shield is not enough for armor loot. If you don't believe me my PSN is BlackTar i should have 100% on the entire game with all the DLC in there. I played that game about 3x thru. I would not have finished 1x if it weren't for coop though. I had a lvl 60 chick(cant remember class) a lvl 60 ranger and a lvl 60 solider.

I played it with about 9 different people and they all agree the weapons were to many and not enough difference. I think my hand gun was called the ripper it did fire damage and ownd only problem is i got it at lvl 10. With that character at least i always did the most dmg. it was the girl one. anyways im not saying i did but i probably put alot more time in it then 70% of the people who played it zombie ned the general one the arena one etc.

Everything i said i stand by and you can check my trophies but maybe there wasn't a hard but the whole Baddie to hard at lvl 15 for 4 people come back at lvl 16 and solo his ass. Pretty weak

all this though i still really enjoyed the game. The only DLC i didnt get was clap traps revenge.

when i play a game i demand at least a challenge and unfortunately i didn't any challenge out of this game besides maybe 5 mins here 5 mins there.

One last thing the new vehicles they gave were weak as hell the tank one was a BS mobile

The game play is awesome. Now they need to hire a writer, and create an interesting story. Have the missions then follow the objective of the story. The first game was just "errand missions" that had no point, other than put you into combat.

Levelling up vs. game difficulty could use better balance. Especially when you bought DLC, depending what level your character was, it could really be out of wack. I often found the game too easy, and found no options to adjust it.

I'd love to see some new environments, like a jungle or something. And more appearance customization would be sweet. I'd love it if it had complete character customization.

Also, more set-piece moments would be welcome.

The formula works fine, just like uncharted, you only need to change the setting.

Borderlands is a solid game. Doesn't really need anything. But if the games doesnt change for the better it will get bad reviews like Bioshock 2.
