Black Ops multiplayer gimped by Hardline Pro exploit

The Call of Duty community is as devious and as ingenious as any - probably more so due to its sheer size - but as a result its players are experts when it comes to finding sneaky little tips and tricks to help their cause in the game's phenomenal multiplayer.

And so it should come as no surprise to learn of the latest cheeky exploit.

That's how it is designed but TA is considering redesigning it now because people are most definitely using it as an exploit.

Basically when you have a team constantly gambling Care Package, Sentry Gun, and Sam Turret it begins to get annoying

I tried this method myself. Let me tell you that it actually kind of sucks, first off you have to wait to get the packages, time = kills, then most of the time you only get a killstreak that will grant you 1 or 2 kills at the most. I do better with Spy plane, Chopper Gunnger, and Dogs personally, but if you are not good enough to get to that point might as well try your luck with this method.

It's a simple game mechanic. Article shouldn't be using the word "exploit".

If anything it will teach players to carry a launcher and use SAMS to counter carepackage drops.

You cannot counter drops with launchers or SAMs.

A SAM will only cause the helicopter to drop the box randomly...but it will still drop.

As for carried launchers, it's virtually impossible to even achieve THAT. The chopper delivers the supplies so fast that by the time you've gotten a clear shot at it, locked on, AND your missile has had time to get to it, the supplies are always already dropped.

In summary: It's easy to get points from shooting the choppers down, but doing so before they make the drop is extremely difficult, and even if you do, the drop is still made, albeit to a random location.

They were supposed to make supply choppers slow and somewhat easy to shoot down, I thought...but apparently they changed their minds prior to release.

AS FOR THIS "EXPLOIT", they clearly need to fix it. It's not truly an exploit, but if the perk calls for a sentry gun, allowing people to shuffle it is stupid. It's not the same as a supply drop. This looks like something the designers just overlooked. I guarantee this changes.

meh im 50/50 on this, not many people actually use this.. but when people do it can get frustrating when you start getting bombarded with chopper after chopper after airstrike.. because 2 players are hiding in corners(camping) to get 5 kills..

it can be annoying, and probably will be when it starts being used on a wider scale but as it stands its only bad here n there, and theres bigger issues for treyarch to worry about just now..

No way. Even with this, the game isn't nearly as gimped as MW2 is with the noob tubing and quick-scoping nonsense.

I went back and played MW2 the other day (with a couple of friends who still don't have BO). It felt inferior in every way. Most issues people have with BO's gameplay (not counting the bugs) are due to the shock. But BO *is* better.

I use hardline as it is.
People always get ammo crates and I munch them up. :D

Although considering the time it takes to wait for the care package (and they can be shot down) It should be easy to counter.
Air-support isn't much of an issue as it is, so it isn't game breaking.

I hope they patch this. Not because I think it's unfair, but because I don't think SAM turrets and sentry guns should be rewarded via care package. They should just be automatic like UAVs, counter UAVs and blackbirds.

It pisses me off to no end when someone steals my care package, but it wouldn't be so bad if the spawn system wasn't so broken

What rank do you unlock Hardline pro at?

The same rank that you unlock every single other perk. All perks are unlocked at one time; you have to buy them with CoD points after that.

To get the "Pro" level of the perk, you have to complete 3 seperate perk challenges, then you have to purchase the pro version

All of the perks are unlocked at level 4 (I think that is the level that unlocks Create a Class). You just have to spend 2,000 COD points to get Hardline, and then complete the 3 perk challenges to unlock the Pro version. You also have to spend COD points to do the upgrade.

The challenges for Hardline are as follows:

Get 7 kills without dying in one match.

Earn 7 killstreaks in one match.

Share 10 packages (can be SAM turret, care package, sentry gun, or valkyrie rockets).

This game is gimped by lag, and a broken ass party system. I am just about finished with this crap. I can join a party with 1 person on my friend list, I have to force join in rooms and then wind up on the other team IF it lets me in the room. The person I can connect with can connect with one other person but they cant invite him either. 2 other guys can only join 1 other person, and the rest were smart and didnt get suckered into buying this garbage.

I dunno that sounds like it would through the balance off completely, does that mean for every miner they collect half a second faster, in the long run that would mean one player will have alot more resources than the other, which sorta destroys the strategy element by giving the player with the upgrade an unfair advantage. More resources=more tanks=slowly but surely overpowering the other player

How is it an exploit. The description says it changes the contents of a care package. Sam Turrets and sentry guns are dropped in care packages. It is balanced though. Rarely, I get a good kill streak with it, I mostly get spy plans, ammo, or the god awful grim reaper.

Camping only gets you killed. Thats what the killcam is there for. I run and gun and my killstreaks are spy plane, attack chopper and chopper gunner. I can easily get all of them at least once a game.

Not an exploit, Treyarch has commented on this, and are discussing if its overpowered. If they find it to be OP, they will either make it harder to get good things out of care packages or fix the issue so you can only do this with regular care packages.

They just need to make it so the SAM turret and sentry gun dont come in care packages, that would solve that issue. I think its a cheap way to get a ton of good killstreaks, with this way you have 3 shots at getting something good, well 4 if you switch the care package when it lands.

It's not an exploit, They are also carepackages what you didn't note was the decreased chance of getting anything better out of them, over their kill amount, chances are you'll end up with an RX-cd out've a sam CSP package. Also you have a decreased chance of getting those kill streaks as you cannot equip ghost with hardline pro. it's pretty balanced actually.

Huh? Um . . you said 3 killstreak for a care package in MW2, so i'm assuming that's WITH hardline. Then you said 5 kills for a care package . . what are you complaining about? Use hardline and make it 4 kills. That was actually a GREAT idea to have that particular killstreak nudged a little higher . . it was pretty easy to get care packages in MW2, and everytime a person died, they could ALWAYS get another care package and another if they managed to get the kills for it. That just gave them a better chance of getting a ridiculous killstreak like AC-130 or something. So that was a good move in Treyarch's favor. My opinion, of course.

Like I said, you remove one perk everyone complains about then all those people using the perk will hover to something else. Its common sense. Perks are added in for giving you a specific advantage in the game, nuff said. People with brains will always try to find that new perk that makes the game easier and gives them the best advantage. Well, now that the secrets out, it will ruin the game. The game was find until you decided to put this on N4G. Known about this since launch, and everything was perfectly fine. So by saying this "gimps" the game you are actually "gimping" the game yourself.

The funny part is how he talks about cheating to get the extra care packages. Having a teammate kill him so he can do it again is pathetic. He complains about it but here he is exploiting it in the most egregious way. As I said below, the likely hood of getting the great killstreaks is low. I can count the number of times I have gotten any of the elite killstreaks out of the 200ish care packages/sam turrets I have called in.

To all the people who say it's not an exploit: it is.

You can say it's not as bad as Noobtube/one man army from Modern Warfare 2 but that to, I'm afraid, is an exploit. Both are by design, but are slightly dodgy ways of winning the game, and they're both not technically "wrong".

Whether they patch it or not, who knows. It's sounds quite bad, but I'm not sure if I've ever been that badly affcted by it, maybe I have and just haven't realised. It is annoying when you a couple of kills ahead of the other team and someone on the opposite side breaks out a chopper gunner steals the lead, but that's the game, can't really do much bout that.

I have been using Hardline pro on single care packages though, and I do like getting more variety out of them compared the usual spyplane. It was only yesterday I realised grim reaper and death mahcine were two different weapons because I got them for the first time by the switching the care package contents. :)

Quit bitching. The likely hood of getting a chopper gunner or dogs or anything really over powering are slim to none. I use hard line pro and I can count the number of times I have gotten a chopper gunner or gunship. I never switch out the regular turret (only the Sam and sometimes the care package) but most of the time I end up with a spy plane or an RC car. It was clearly designed to work this way. If they change it, it will definitely reduce the life span of this game for me.

I will admit, I have SAM turret, care package, and sentry gun set as my kill streaks for this very reason. It is not a team effort though. Sometimes I get good kill streaks, and sometimes I turn a perfectly good sentry gun into ammo. I actually rather like the randomness of it. It keeps things interesting.

I actually take the first option if it's decent and personally I love the sentry gun. I find it to be much more useful in objective games than a cobra. But yeah, the gambling aspect is pretty addictive and it's also useful in case the opposing team brings in a chopper gunner or something. If I'm holding a Sam Turret I may decide to take my chances and switch it or if a cobra or chopper gunner is in the air I'll throw it down and take those points and help out my team. It's not nearly as big of an issue as people are making it out to be. People are acting like it's game breaking and half of the issues with MW2 were much more game breaking than hardline pro.

Would have to agree. I use Hardline all the time and so far I've got an attack helicopter once, sentry gun twice, the rest is all rc cars and ammo packs.

Unless you're rushing to the center of the map to shoot everything in site, someone is going to whine about you.

Use a 203? "Omg you're a newb gtfo!"

Enemy trips a well placed Claymore? "omfg I was gaymored!"

Snipe an enemy from a well covered position? "Omg you're camping!"

Defending your objective according to the mission parameters? "Omg you're camping!"

Most of the people whining about this stuff are the morons that simply can't deal with the "entire game" and think every map and game type should be played like a Team Deathmatch Round/FFA using assault rifles only. The whole reason they're whining at you for the above items is that when they have to deal with the "Entire Game" being played the way it was meant to be played, they get more deaths and lower stats.

If you don't like/can't deal with the game "in it's entirety", go pay for your own server and enforce your own rules there, otherwise stfu and play the fkn game.

It always amazes me when people complain about claymores. There are so many things you can do to avoid being killed by a claymore.

1) Use the hacker perk.

2) Stun/flash before entering a room.

3) Put down a jammer before entering a building.

4) Look before you leap. You can see them even without the hacker perk. All you have to do is slow down a little bit and pay attention.

You have as much chance of getting RC-XDs, Spy Planes, and ammo as you do anything else. Switching your care packages once is not a bad thing because it is a gamble. Making it a team effort though does seem pretty cheap.

If you end up with a spy plane, rc-xd, or ammo from any care package, then you have wasted a care package. Getting a counter-spy plane from a SAM turret is basically a wash. Getting one from a care package or sentry gun is a waste. Getting a napalm strike from a care package is a wash. Getting one from a sentry gun is a waste. Getting a mortar strike from a sentry gun is a wash. You see how that works? The higher the care package, the higher the chance of getting something equal or lesser.
