PS3 Firmware update features confirmed

Also, I hope Sony would allow clock / timer / alarm options on the PS3 with an update. I'd like to know what time it is by maybe pressing the PS button from time to time while playing games. Must keep an eye on the clock, you know, to make sure I don't play for too long. It would be cool to be able to use the PS3 as an alarm clock too. Heck, maybe a CD or MP3 alarm clock where you wake up to your favorite music. Why not? If you have it in your bedroom. Maybe a timer feature too to notify you that your 1 hour of alloted game time is up or something, YOU KNOW? Not necessary, but would be cool to have.

After installing this update I can't get UPnP to work. It says "Not available". Anyone know whats wrong here? It worked just fine before. If I can't play Warhawk VERY soon I WILL go crazy.

Looks like the update means nothing to us Europeans, wonder what playability status means? is it to do with Warhawk or have they stopped the Lair remote play?

My Brother was attempting to play Hitman: Blood Money when the screen saying it's not compatible came up. The game worked before the update, so just wondering what the extent of this playability update is...

I know Sony said they will slowly move away from the PS2 games on PS3 and focus on the PS3 being for PS3 games. So I was expecting it. I have a PS2 though so obviously I can still play Hitman...

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with PS2 games they used to play?

Btw I live in the UK so this update did affect us Europeans

You can sue for anything, but I doubt that you'll be successful since Sony never guaranteed the PS3 to be 100% backward compatible.

actually reburn they did, many times before launch back before e3 2006, such statements we're retracted later though but they did promise it or atleast alluded too it with statements such as FULL backwards compatibility support.

The auto-off on the controllers is happening. I'm not sure when it was implemented, but I have had controllers shutting off while I was watching a movie. And yes, the battery was fully charged and in range of the BT tech.

Its always good to get updates, I really can't wait for 2.0 and HOME to come out. I hope in the 2.0 update there will be in game XMB.

The in-game XMB is the one thing I've heard consistantly everywhere I go atm. They're working on implementing it, with the ability to play music in games to follow soon after if enough people want that added (Unless they have that done for 2.0 already). I think Home will be the biggest thing that comes from 2.0 though, the in-game XMB is necessary imo in order to be able to switch from game to settings, to your message box, back to the game and also to Home if you want.

I'm looking forward to an in-game XMB, not too worried if the in-game music isn't included but I know people want that added.

The only thing on my mind when I think PS3 atm though is Heavenly Sword :D

I noticed I didn't have to plug my controller into the PS3 and press the PS button to finish the update.

I could do it without the cable.

xmb load times and SSHD load times are improved alot. and controller turns off itself

well, if this is all the update says it brought then im guessing they sneaked these things in there because its evident how fast the icons load up etc.

oh well, its a win win situation nways

Mine is downloading as I type (44% so far) if they have solved the issues with the Warhawk servers that will be well worth it.

I just got a new TV so I could get a PS3. My old TV was a 480p/1080i only. Does the PS3 now scale to whatever resolution that you set up in the options. If the game has 720p on the back of it and not 1080i will it scale to 1080i or default to 480p. I knew this was a issue back at launch but is it the same. This is for my broke a$$ friend. My TV does 480p,720,1080i, and 1080p so I'm straight. I got it for a PS3. PLEASE HELP. I plan on getting a PS3 this fall or march 08.

Doesn't affect me but it does to so many other people. No it doesn't upscale to 1080i it defaults to 480p.

one of the main things this patch does is allows full BT connectivity and dropped comm support in Motorstorm -- which iws a BIG DEAL for BT MStorm players. Any of my Motorstorm brothers on here will know what I'm talking about. I guess you have to have many games to reap the full effect of this "little" patch. I'm lucky.

I'm getting the same. Can't access the PS Store since the update, and can't access some websites (not all) - returns a Network Error.

How many others have this issue?
