PLAYSTATION 3 – Separates the Men from the Boys

Once again, Sony or better Kaz Hirai made some bold statements regarding the PS3’s hardware power and the developers ability to actually leverage those capabilities within games.

The interesting thing about this, whereas Microsoft wants to make it as easy for developers to crank out some next gen titles, the PS3 obviously has been designed to be the subborn chick as we know it: releasing only part of its power right now.

So what’s the reasoning behind that? Well, according to Kaz it is Sony’s believe that it is not good to have all the platform capabilities right from the start. As we know, the PS3 has a already announced lifespan of up to 10 years. As stupid as it sounds initially, in order to keep the platform attractive over this long timespan without being able to change anything of the overall hardware specs you have to "hide" some of the capabilities within the platform…
