I've always thought Portal to be a great game, this episode of Bar Banter really did analyze the aspect of a plot in gaming. Sometimes I feel its so important and I miss playing more single player, other times I feel it's less important and I just play multiplayer because I don't have time :(. I wish games had more checkpoints!
