IGN Writes: We've got the first exclusive review of SEGAs Kinect launch game. Is this the Sonic game worth getting out of your chair for?
Looks like fun. I hope I can try it out at my local Bestbuy.
This got a higher rating than The force unleashed 2, lol.
It's IGN. Lol.
Totally different games for different gamers. Comparing review scores between the two is stupid. This is N4G so i guess it makes all the sense in the world.
K-Lan Is that not what scores are for? A measure of quality?
looks like a decent game for a launch title.
You know there is a different scale for different types of games...just like Arcade titles are treated differently than full releases, wii games dont get downgraded for non-hd graphics, sports games like Madden don't get compared to RPG games scores, DLC scores don't take a hit for being too short compared to the original content, you see each of them carry different expectations so it wouldn't make much sense to say a Arcade retro game that scores a 9/10 is better than a full game like say Enslaved that scored a 8/10, no what the reviewer is implying is that a 9/10 Arcade game is better than other 1.0-8.9/10 Arcade games hes played. Price is also a factor because ultimately the overall price is a consideration in the overall value of game to the consumer, with that said a score ultimately does try compare gameplay/fun factor no matter what genre/type of game it is.
Thank you JokesOnYou.
... 7.5 thats great, live online and the controls work too. Awww whats the haters going to say... Cant believe ppl are saying this is Antigrav for the PS2, get a life, thats like saying Killzone is Halo or any number of other games.
Pathetic wordst fanboyz of the universe, happy for a 7.5 for an eye toy like child game, hilarious :) by the way, killzone is the best console fps (online).
@n4gno errr naa mate killzone 2 is sh*it Bad company 2 and cod4 are the best online shooters ever
This is the same as antigrav for ps2... http://www.youtube.com/watc...
lolololol its Anti-Grav again
Yeah it is a recycled game type. Just goes to prove how limited the genre's will be without a controller. I mean Kinect is new and the game types are recycled from LAST GEN? I thought Kinect was supposed to bring new experiences lol. I hope that Sony makes some more games like Kung Fu Live just to prove that controller less gaming on the PS3 is possible without having to spend $150. Feel free to disagree if you don't like what I have to say, leave a response if you have anything worth saying.
"Yeah it is a recycled game type." *Looks at Wii. Looks at Move.* "I thought Kinect was supposed to bring new experiences lol." *Looks at Wii games. Looks at Move games.* Not saying anything.
lol DelbertGrady, I was thinking the same thing, really I can't think of any game, motion control or not thats a brand new idea, what differentiates them is not the concept but how that concept is implemented to make the experience enjoyable= quality of the game perhaps???
Lol, MS takes 6 years and brings out a device 4 times the price so they can get a .1 higher score in IGN. http://ps2.ign.com/articles...
Wow....Sega. The PS2 game is less on rails though.
Ha! Recycled game confirmed.
"Lol, MS takes 6 years and brings out a device 4 times the price so they can get a .1 higher score in IGN" You have to take "Review Score Inflation" into account. A 7.4 back then is like what an 8.5 is today.
wow it really is...
Thats amazing. Goes to show you want a brand name will do for a title. Even if it is Sonic
you can use weapon in this game?or multiplayer?or use your leg to boost?
i miss old eyetoy game. if they bring back all eyetoy and updated to ps3. that will be serious competitor to kinect
yeah it's called the eye.
But the psmove never claimed to be a whole new way to play so......
Whoa, this actually looks alright. To be honest that's quite a shock.
im might actually pick this one up
I'm surprised it's decent
first exclusive? It's destined to be a rather positive review... Every site who gets the right to make a early review would evaluate it positive... (this counts for every first exclusive reviews)
I am finding it hard to remember a first exclusive review that downplayed a game
That is what I mean ^^ Maybe other reviews will look at it with a more objective look... (it's will always be subjective though)
Videogamer.com was the first to review The Fight Lights Out(5/10) and they had this to say: "Its structure invites boredom, there's no narrative to speak of, and more importantly, the Move controls lack responsiveness. Punches fly all over the shop, but rarely connect with their intended target. Even if you invest some ability points in Technique (which improves accuracy) this problem refuses to go away; the game simply lacks precision." http://www.videogamer.com/p... -Now of course ps3 folks are hating on IGN because they thought it was terrible(3/10) and then with this game getting a decent score it must all be conspiracy, until the next ps3 game is rated highly or 360 game rated poorly, lol n4g is sooo predictable.
@jokesonyou I'm not talking about the first review... I only referring to " first EXCLUSIVE review"
Where does it say " first EXCLUSIVE review" by IGN? I watched the vid again and read the begining of the written review and I don't see that phrase. So why is the first review from videogamer on Lights Out considered just a first review and this first review from IGN considered a "exclusive" one?
Publishers often put a stipulation on embargoes that the review can be released early if it rates above a certain score. Doesn't mean it's a biased or "bought" review, but it does mean it's not necessarily in line with other reviews. Same thing goes for the inevitable Killzone 3 early reviews as well.
Remember Fallout:New Vegas ?
Ign would have given this game a 3.5 if it wasn't exclusive to kinect.
They would have given it a 3.5 if it was on move. IGN is on the same level of idiocy as destructod in some cases. I hate to say it sometimes though. I imagine every kinect game will get at least a 6 or higher besides deca sports 3.
sure! thats why. /s
Don't embarrass yourself with such an excuse.
You know that this game would get a 3.5 and have never even played it. If you would have read the review, the guy said this is the best version of any ever released, more fun than the previous versions. There also say it is not a kiddie game. This is just the first. wait until you see Dance central and Kenect Sports review.
Just hate IGN for hating on the Move and now loving the Kinect.
They gave Move an 8.5
but the games... whole different story...
been stated but here is footage http://www.youtube.com/watc... yep pretty much the same as the eyetoy game
*To the Trolls* Kinect is a good device for the 360 fans, why are you always hating on them? "Move vs. Kinect" sales will be going down soon, not cause we want it, but gamers will make it happen(Which is sad cause gaming has become so competitive now).
to the fanboy I fail to se ehow this game is any différent than the previous free riders sonic .. so ..kinect jus magicaly make a bad game good ? even IGN doesn't deny it it's shallow.. PS: i want to meet the genius that thought that co-op while holding both your partners hands in a racing gameis a good idea . SEGA ALL stars if you want a racing game with sonic
For every Kinect game review that gets less than 7 on IGN, I'll cut one of my fingers ;)
I think is better to shift you goal to less than 5 or you will lose all of you finger
It actually looks pretty boring, I mean firstly the controls are counter intuitive and the fact that you have to spend a lot of time to get accustomed to the motion is a big negative to anyone wanting to play a FUN game. Secondly the tracks from the vid review look very wide and mostly straight, where's the fun in that, if the hardest part of the game is learning the controls then its not something I want to play. Thirdly I just don't understand how no brakes and acc. except boost makes any sense, after 10 mins of the whole hoverboard thing being exciting gets old, it will then show itself to be nothing but extremely simple "racer" I mean where's the technique and depth. Fourth is the actual controls, I mean do you have to keep you head angled towards the screen always and standing and playing the game for more than 20 mins is going to get annoying. I mean first its not a party game or casual game because of a steep learning curve and second its not a solid core game because of the simplicity of the game and then you throw in the need to always be on your feet and its just a game without identity that gets old fast. This game looks extremely simple and fun for 10 mins after learning the clearly annoying controls. I mean for something thats supposed to be primarily fun it does not look that way. This game does not go with casual or hardcore its in between and should be rated as such.
you're so right...
Not that surprised to be honest, look like a fun game. Probably wouldn't have got that score if it were a controller-based game, that's for sure.
7.5 is higher than 99.5% of the move titles got, tell me about "shovelware" again....
Sonic Free Riders isn't shovelware? I don't think review scores have anything to do with that categorization.
AT least one good and working kinect's game!
ohmygod so many fanboys is here. cmon guys just admit it, kinect works in this game, and the games is fun too. antigrav works a little bit different from this. it only detect hands and face. this sonic game use body to control. just admit it works, congrats sega! congrats kinect! i hope sony got it right with the camera. lights out game cant do the face recog properly, kinda weird considering harmonix did it very well with antigrav.
nor that I hated it. I just stated that it was the same as anti-grav. Maybe I should've elaborated. It has the same appearance and feel no matter the control scheme. I don't hate Kinect but the similarities to PS1 eyetoy are hard to miss.
A solid score for what looks like a fun little racer. Lets hope the rest of Kinect's line up can come up to the mark.
Sony fanboys crack me up so bad.
Looks surprisingly good.
sweet game looks like mad fun wish i ownd a xbox 360 :(
Out of all the launch titles why does this review come out first?? That's the part that seems suspicious to me.
Looks like fun, but I wouldn't spend $50 bucks on this. I'm waiting for a review of that fighting game.
