Extermination Review for PS2 at Video Game Cowboys

VGC writes, "Extermination was one of the earliest horror-themed releases on the PS2. It attracted my attention for that reason alone since I had already eagerly devoured Silent Hill and four Resident Evil titles on the PS1, and since Silent Hill 2 wasn’t due out until September I needed something to tide me over. Sadly, like most junkies who need periodic fixes, I only discovered I was making a mistake after it was too late."

this was good game back in its time, but it had many flaws.

They should reboot this franchise.

tacosRcool5300d ago

I thought it was stupid. I watched a friend play this at his house. Didn't look fun really! So a couple of weeks later when I got my own PS2 I opted to skip this game!

4 Bone-Chilling Horror Games From The PlayStation 2 You’ve Never Heard Of

Make Use Of writes: When gamers think about the PlayStation 2, and the range of horror games available on the platform, a few generally come to mind, with Resident Evil and Silent Hill are the two most prominent, and with good reason, as each of them is a fantastic. Of course, being released at the right time with a good marketing budget most certainly helped their success as well.

However, with the popularity of the more known franchises, a slew of other games hit the market as well. Some of these were truly fantastic, but for one reason or another, not too many gamers actually played them. Perhaps they were marketed poorly, or maybe it was something else. Whatever the reason, October is upon us, and that means it’s time to take part in all things scary. Pull out your PS2, or your PS3 if you are fortunate enough to have a backwards compatible model, and get ready to scare yourself silly with these unknown horror games from the PlayStation 2.

Another one for the PS2 that was pretty good was Cold Fear.

scofios4216d ago (Edited 4216d ago )

i still have cold fear and Haunting Ground .
and obscure 1.2.
Cold fear had bad luck it was released at te same time resident evil 4 was released.
I hope ubisoft makes a new cold fear game for ps4/xbone instead of those overdone assasin creeds.

TheEvilWithin4216d ago

Same! I want to see more horror tittle's next gen.

MadLad4216d ago

I knew of both Haunting Ground and Second Sight.
Your statement is invalid. :p

That said, Second Sight was by no means scary.

Sony should seriously bring this IP back.

Kratoscar20084220d ago (Edited 4220d ago )

Mmm this is a great game that i played to death, it introduced the red laser thing that RE 4 ripped off, it used the enemies with guns that RE 4 stole as well and the weak point gimmick that RE 4 copied as well.

I liked that you only had one weapon but you could customize with multiple attachments, and unlike RE 4 this game was scary and very creative.

A shame the IP was dropped, Sony should really revive their IPs for PS4 and/or Vita.

CEOSteveBallmer4220d ago (Edited 4220d ago )

I don't get why you bash RE4 so much. may i remind you, RE4 has pioneered the over the shoulder fixed camera gameplay which is more innovative than those laser things your saying. RE4 is a "Landmark" game is has the best balance of action and horror with excellent pacing!. it will not receive 96 on metacritic for nothing. its 2005's game of the year!!. and can you give me just one game! One game where you need to "barricade" the house or the door to just keep the enemies out?? this is the only game that lets you experience those horrifying slasher movies where a killer is ought to get you. the concept is reall so good. Its a masterpiece. Its up there with Resident evil 2 and RE remakes as one of the best horror games of all time

EDIT: but i agree with you that sony should revive this game!. since im also a fan of survival horror. cant wait for "The evil within"

Ah, I never played it, but I think Swery should focus on getting another Deadly Premonition game out. Wouldn't mind playing this someday though.
