Frictional: Amnesia Piracy Rate Due To Lack Of Replay Value?

Amnesia developers Frictional Games have suggested that the game’s reasonably high piracy rate could be down to its being a story-driven single-player experience, and thus lacking in perceived replay value.

Great game, very happy with my purchase.

I'm sure it is pirated, however, the developers may be overlooking the fact that this genre is a niche. Many of my friends who love great games, buy a lot of titles, just said they won't play it because they can't handle scary games, and Amnesia is at the top of its genre for horror.

I pirated this game, played it for 5 minutes, realized how awesome it was, and overcome with guilt I went onto steam and bought it.

I paid £10 for it on pre-order which is fine for the 9 hours it took me to complete

Played demo. Totally over-rated. It's not scary, it's not atmospheric, it has very little gameplay value, and the puzzles are too easy to solve. They're independent I know, but I don't really care.

I downloaded the game from Pirate Bay, finished it, and then bought it directly from Frictional Games store, because game is freakin' great, and it was just 20$. Also, independent studios like FG need support from gamers.

Sony snatches up studios like this all the time.

Maybe they haven't pitched anything to Sony yet. If they did, Move would have a killer app. Honestly, I see Sorcery as being the killer app...it's just not out until next year. I LOVE Sports Champions, but people who don't play it constantly just see it as a more accurate Wii Sports, sadly. :(

On a side note, Frictional being snatched up by Sony, as you guys suggest would be a horrible move.

They'd lose their entire fanbase.

Yeah i'm pretty sure Frictional Games would prefer to stay independent,go bankrupt and shut down, but retain their original fanbase, rather than be bought over by Sony, retain their jobs,be given a huge budget and artistic license to work on their future games, as well as have opportunities to work with devs such as ND & Team Ico.

Do you think MM would have survived without Sony stepping in?

They're entire team consists of 5 people. Like Sony would touch them with a 50 foot pole.

They make it good on PC because it's an open platform where they can sell their games for $20 without having to cover any kind of cost of goods, or publisher fees.
