What FIFA tells us about retail

MCV: More intelligent use of FIFA in-store proves that supermarkets are taking games more seriously

FIFA had its largest launch ever this week, and the third largest of any game in the UK. Well done EA, pats on the backs for everyone, yes yes.

But as night follows day, No.1s follow FIFA.

It might be big in europe for super markets to sell games, but here in the u.s.a it is very rare for super markets to sell video games, once in a blue moon you might see a few super markets selling them, but you hardly find any good games or deals on them when super markets carry video games. Though I have seen great deals in a super market that were selling games years ago, for instance this super market called quality markets were selling old but good brand new ps1 games for a rock bottom price of $5 a piece, and they were very good titles like: castlevania symphony of the night, blood omen legacy of kain, and this good submarine arcade game for the ps1 etc... And you know what stupid thing I did because I was not thinking straight due to me being depressed at the time? I did not pick either of them up even though someone was willing to offer to loan me money to pick them up. Then when I finally came to my senses I went back there to get them and they were no where to be found. So from then on when I see deals that I am interested in I jump on them because I know what will happen If I don't. Anyway I wish more supermarkets carried good games at good deals in the u.s.a in my area, maybe one day it will happen, until then it will be mostly online shopping for video games for me because that is where the good deals are at for the most part.

Videogame Virgin: Assassin’s Creed III, FIFA and bathrobes

Editor’s note: In this bi-weekly feature, Pixelitis staffer Matt Brown shares his “down the rabbit hole” look into gaming history. Having admittedly missed what many consider “classics,” join him as he dives in head first. We ask that you just be gentle with him.)

"Going down the list in Steve Bowden’s 100 Computer Games to Play Before You Die, I was supposed to write something about Defender this week but I decided not to. Just doesn’t feel right. Not for this week, not for right now at least.

I want to talk about something bigger, I guess. I want to talk about how, in times like these, gaming is valuable and vital. So I’m gonna do that instead."

Football games: Worth every penny or a total con?

TGC writes: There are those that like to argue whether you are a Fifa gamer or a Pro Evolution Soccer gamer. I’m going to take it one step further and say your either a football gamer or a non football gamer. The fact of the matter is a new game comes out every year with possibly the slightest difference from the previous game and they release it onto the shelves in quantities thinking that they’ve made something new and improved. I really think they should hold a prize for anyone who can spot the difference between FIFA 09 and FIFA10 because I’m really struggling.

I use to buy every sports game I was interested in madden,MLB,nba and wwe along few others and I remember buying playing for few days than thinking why I paid full price for this. Than one year about 4 years ago I said no more and I have never bought another sports game at launch sometimes I do buy me when they $20 on craiglist of sale but that's barely

IMO sports games don't do enough to justify a fully price and that's just my opinion

If 2k can sell nfl 2k5 for $19.99 and make a profit than why are games today with less content are selling for full 60? No wonder why EA ran to nfl and bought the exclusive rights

FIFA
Nfl
Nba
MLB
Wwe
NHL
Etc,

Sports games shuld be every 2 years and in between dlc and more updates and stuff like tournaments

Sports games tend to bore me, but I'm very fond of Tony Hawk, Skate, NBA Street V2 and some WWE games (if you count it as sport... sports entertainment... whatever).
