Why Portal is the best game of all time

Portal is a great game, not sure if I'd go as far as saying it's the greatest game of all time though. Uncharted 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, God of War, Halo 2, Final Fantasy VII and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas are all better then Portal...IMO of course.

I disagree. Some games are perfectly suited to a couple of hours play. If they'd spread Portal out over eight hours, it would have detracted from the experience. (And let's not forget, it was never a full-priced game, so it still offered good value for money.)

People gotta play more games. The "best game of all time" (if there even is one) would definitely be better and would influence gaming a lot more than Portal has. I can name at least 50 games that are better and more influential than Portal, in my opinion.

I don't know what all the fuz about portal is, its a good game but to call it the greatest game ever is far off..there are so many better games then portal halo had more influence then portal it even may be the most influencial game ever since it basically made shooters as we know today and shooter is the most popular genre this generation.. so i agree with Rrobba there many better games then portal

Best game of al time is too much of a stretch. Now best puzzle game of all time maybe (although i would suggest tetris would claim that spot)

Entirely subjective, although I would certainly argue it's one of the more innovative.

Being a huge HL fan, I was more pumped for Portal than Ep2, and it didn't let me down. Not my favourite game of all time, but it's up there with the likes of Chrono Trigger and Deus Ex for me.

And no way is it too short - the story was exactly as long as it had to be, no more no less.

It's not my favourite game of all time but it's definitely up there. Whenever I complain about the fact that the industry is overrun with generic macho shooters (which is a lot) I always name check Portal as an example of the innovation and creativity I want to see other games live up to. Nice article Spandex Louie.
