Halo: Combat Evolved Review (RunDLC)

Since Halo: Reach is a prequel to Bungie’s award-winning series, now is an excellent time to play the game that started the craze, Halo: Combat Evolved. This celebrated Xbox launch title is currently available on Xbox Live for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), and despite a few drawbacks, is worth a purchase, if for nothing else than to put everything in context.

Well i cant say anything about reach have not played it yet. Tho i bet this halo made a way bigger impact then Reach. Just in my own opinion.

@Killer

You wasted a first bubble when you haven't even played Reach yet? WTF man!

fossilfern5338d ago

Personally the Halos after CE have just gotten worse bar Reach it was pretty good but not CE standard

kaveti66165338d ago

Myth. Halo 2 was better than CE.

Halo 2 had a much better campaign that took the player through various planets and environments with a dual character campaign, and it had split screen co-op, and it had a much better multiplayer.

I don't like when people say that Halo went downhill after CE because it's so obvious that they're just repeating a phrase they've heard on the net. Play Halo 2. It owns CE, and Halo 3 is slightly better in the MP department and slightly worse in the Campaign department, so it's just as good. Then ODST sucks, but Reach is better than all. So, overall, the Halo series has been progressing nicely.

fossilfern5338d ago

No Halo 2 was nothing but a bore fest. the campaign was dull and not as open/vast as CE. Yes the multi player was alot better but thats what ruined the campaign for the other Halos. The focus was more on MP than the SP.
Halo 2,3,ODST and, in a majority of cases reach, never came close to what CE did

kaveti66165338d ago

Nah, I loved Halo 2's campaign. I guess we're in major disagreement here. I played Halo 2's campaign long before I played the multiplayer because I didn't have XBL for 2 years. I played the campaign 4 times. It was a blast. And there was a lot of variety. The quarantine level in Halo 2 is by far one of the creepiest and best designed levels ever.

I hope it gets a 10th anniversary HD remake for arcade next year with achievements, online co-op, and deathmatch.

KillerPwned5338d ago

I would buy that it really does deserve it. I dont know what happend to my physcial copy of it for xbox. But i got it for PC to online is still strong.

Eiffel5338d ago

I have CE for the PC. Xfire has around 16,000 people playing daily and that's just under people who use Xfire. I'd buy a CE remake.

toaster5338d ago

I loved pistol sniping from one base to another on Blood Gulch.

Custom Edition was even better than Combat Evolved for me since there were mods and skins, so much more content than any Xbox game could hope for.

Buff10445338d ago

Good to know people still fire up the game. Loved it back in the day.

Buff10445338d ago

That would be very sweet. The game stands on its own as is, but a remake would be cool. And prob easy for Microsoft to do.

trancefreak5338d ago

hell ya cause I never liked halo until reach and reach is baddass. So if this is one of the best in the series i def want it.

I saw Halo 1 & 2 both at Best Buy the other day and was thinking about picking them up. the Halo 2 box art says it plays on the 360, but CE doesn't mention anything and is $9.99 instead of the $15 it goes for on Live.

Will the disc based CE play on the 360, or will I need to get the download version?

Thnx in advance.

ChrisPriestman5338d ago

Well my Halo: CE plays on my 360 so you should be good!

thebudgetgamer5338d ago

i bought my copy through my 360.

IQUITN4G5338d ago

The 360 emulated version is fairly shoddy.More than playable but the framerate is fairly shocking at times and not as polished the experience as playing on the original Xbox

Games That Took An Absolutely Bizzare Turn In Their Narrative

Some titles out there focus on introducing a bizarre turn in their narrative. Check out this list for some solid recommendations for those.

"INSIDE" was bloody amazing, and I miss Uncharted's sci-fi and paranormal aspects greatly.

TricksterArrow307d ago (Edited 307d ago )

TBH, 3 and 4 still have them, but they are heavily implied, which can be terrifying the more you think about it, but it is admittedly, much less scary and less interesting gameplay-wise than what 1 and 2 have done.

Inverno307d ago

U3 did show the Jinn's "bottle" in the end and the city was pretty f-ing dope. Just a little disappointing that they didn't lean just a bit more on the mythical parts of the series. Uncharted is a world rooted in reality and Drake knowing all these mythical stuff exists could've led into something cool.

porkChop308d ago

I remember being particularly confused by the twist in LA Noire where Cole Phelps is sort of "exposed". If you've played it you know what I'm talking about. It always felt weird and odd because the player is Cole Phelps. How can the player not know about these sorts of things happening with their own character? I felt like it came out of nowhere.

Soma, Doki Doki Literature Club, Saya no Uta

UnbreakableAlex307d ago

Is Twelve Minutes on that list? Because IT HAS TO BE ON THAT LIST!
Don’t spoiler yourself with that humongous twist :D
