Ico PS2 vs Ico PS3 HD Screen Comparison

With Ico and Shadow of the Colossus officially announced for the PS3, Sony fans around the world have been quite happy in the last 24hrs. Although there haven't been many screens released of the newly re-tuned -- only one screen has been released -- it's enough to compare it to the PS2 release and see the large steps forward Sony and Team Ico are taking with these HD versions.

Epic!!! but the title of this piece of news. werent kidding when they said SCREEN

DaTruth5336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

Almost looks current gen! Saw a video of a emulator comparison and the PS2 version looked junk next to it. There was this white Assassins Creed-esque haze all over and it was real blurry.

Graphics were amazing last gen and I didn't know SotC was Ico2 and never played it; when I found out, I decided to not search in case this happened, so day 1 for me.

Stealth Disagreer5336d ago

Ico on ps2 almost looks like a cellphone pic in that example

Pumped for this collection even tho i already own both

a game running running in HD looks better than SD

who would have thought!?

ProjectVulcan5336d ago

Seen it first hand on a PC emulator running in HD. I can confirm it does look better. Just in case anyone needed reasurance :-) lol

MaxOpower5336d ago

Yeah! WOW, now they got faces too, what's next? Finger?
Still cant wait for it.Never played the two original, didn't get around to pick them up. But I got a second chance!!

tinybigman5336d ago

huge difference, thank you for the remake Team Ico and Sony.

tinybigman5336d ago

whoever disagreed you are one sad person.

karl5336d ago

should i get this? didnt played the ps2 version

f7897905336d ago

Okay the SD version wasn't that blurry. I wish they wouldn't put SD things on an HDTV.

The hd version is looking pretty good so this is a day 1 purchase for me. I never played either (was too young to care) so both will be completely new for me. What a deal!

Gue15336d ago

The improvements are really noticeable compared to the GOW collection which looked almost the same as the original games.

kevnb5336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

ico was rendered at a lower res than god of war, the jump here is bigger. Oh, and ico wasn't that blurry before.

kevnb5336d ago

that is just rendered at higher res, not redone. Its bs they are charging for this, when the ps3 should be doing this with our old discs anyway.

raztad5336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

first, you are not forced to buy it.

second, ICO PS2 is quite hard to find and it is very expensive.

third, probably there is more than just upscaling as you keep repeating. As happened with GoW I wouldnt be surprised if the framerate, AA get improved. Alongside with trophies support.

And there is something I just noticed: the game got 16:9 widescreen support. Excellent.

BTW, It does look gorgeous. Never had the chance of playing ICO. I'm so buying this.

mastiffchild5336d ago

No, this is a fair enough release and a very good bargain for gamers wanting to play them for the first time or fans like myself eager to finally play SotC at a decent frame rate per second. It's the only REAL fault that game, as one of my all time faves, has for me but was annoying at times and was the game which showed me, alongside the first KZ, that devs were being way too ambitious with the PS2 and PS3 time was a little overdue!

For the FPS reason alone iot would be fair enough but the price of a decent copy of Ico in English can be a lot steeper than this will be and add in the HD, stable frames and trophies what's not to like? Of all the mooted HD remakes this is the best candidate as so few people played Ico and too many had missed SotC at the en of PS2 relevance. If this helps boost people's expectations for TLG that's also a great thing as TI are amazingly talented but these games alone are worth the effort and Sony will optimise them a lot more than just upping the resolution. The framerate of the original SotC would get ripped apart today so there's work in there, really.

£25 for those two, anyway, is a BARGAIN. If that makes me a fanboy then allow me to be wrapped up and slapped silly by every Sony exec in existence but, surely, more people should be playing this collection/these two games shouldn't they Better quality is just a big bonus and trophies an added inducement.

DigitalAnalog5336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

Suppose all 38+ million PS3 users wanted to play ICO and SOTC. Can you confirm that EVERYONE of them would be able to get their hands on it?

Re-mastered HD's are synonymous with GOTY/Greatest Hits editions for games. Except that this case, the majority of the PS3 owners were once PS2 owners so the transition is near seemless.

Let's say for example EVERY PS3 had BC and the developers have a choice of re-releasing a PS2 classic: Would they go for the greatest-hits collection or GOTY (if applicable) edition or the PS2 OR re-master an HD collection for the PS3? Which do you think, would be better for the current-gen market?

Exactly.

-End statement

bjornbear5335d ago

+ adding trophy support and rendering it in HD.
+ selling both games for the price of LESS THAN ONE

so I have NO idea what you are complaining about

or do you expect PS3 to retexture PS2 games as they run on it? yeah? want jesus to come by give you a foot massage too then eh?

*facepalm*

UP5335d ago

have you ever played ps2 games on a hd tv they look awful. worse then on sd tvs in my opinion.

Watch this if you want an idea of how it could potentially look on PS3. It's rather stunning, if I do say so myself.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic151d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23151d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger142d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.

A good number of these games are pretty well-known in the gaming community. I don't know who this 'no one' is, but they might not have been a gamer during the time of the PS2. ICO? The Warriors? BULLY?!? C'mon now.

FullmetalRoyale659d ago

Certainly not as interesting as a spoon controversy, right?

658d ago
Terry_B660d ago

Not one of these is pretty "forgotten". But what you can forget are bad lists that need 15 clicks.

Terry_B659d ago

edit..why the fuck was this shit approved by 2 guys after all?

luckytrouble659d ago

Because the approval system is fundamentally flawed. The amount shouldn't decrease for approval over time, nobody should be able to have more than one vote, and pending content should be more visible so those measures don't feel necessary to push through less immediately popular pieces.

The number of ways this system can be intentionally or accidentally abused so crap like this can get through has been ridiculous for ages now.

Petebloodyonion660d ago

The title is misleading, it should be 15 best ps2 that you always ignored (hence the title of the video).
These games are not unknow but often left out when talking PS2 great game.
The warrior is a great game but let's be frank just mention it in a discussion amongs friends and half the crowd will go " OMG I forgot about that! "

Christopher658d ago

I think that's just a factor of time. Most movies from the 80s/90s that are great are like that with me as well. They're still great, just been so much between now and then that you can't keep it all at the forefront of your mind.

banger88660d ago

15 games on 15 pages? F*** that. I'll save you a click:

The Thing
Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
Deus Ex: The Conspiracy
Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly
Twisted Metal Black
ICO
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy
Transformers
Silent Hill 4: The Room
Red Dead Revolver
War of the Monsters
XIII
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
The Warriors
Bully

Agreed. Some heroes put on their pants one leg at a time like the rest of us. Thank you.

MrNinosan659d ago

I remember and know all the game exceot War of the Monsters...
But maybe my name is "no one"

Phoenix76658d ago

Last time I checked (a year ago) War of the Monsters was available to buy as a ps2 classic on the ps store. Know I've still got my disc copy and fairly sure it's in my digital library

This video game journalist must not know any gamers, not be on any gaming sites, and is probably young only know of these games because of an older sibling.

None of those games are forgotten and most are spoken of fondly fairly often.
