Even a casual gamer acknowledges the presence of flight and driving simulators, but most would raise an eyebrow if you told them you’d spent the last few hours piloting a virtual oil tanker. Once the fastest means of transportation on earth (before the invention of the steam engine), boats are now overlooked; doomed to be seen as slow fishing vessels, lumbering cargo haulers and towering water hotels. Paradox Interactive’s Ship Simulator: Extremes makes that point increasingly clear, but still tries to salvage the glitzy appeal of the boat that ran aground long ago.
