Why PES Will Never Catch FIFA Again

Exactly. I think a lot of people wrote off FIFA when PES 6 came along and did very well. Now look at the state of play.

Maybe it's just me, but PES keeps getting more complicated, I can't keep up with the moves anymore, for me it was best at PES 6 or 7.

But I still don’t like FIFA.

After what they did with FIFA 2010 on PC i think PES is already ahead of FIFA.

PES on the PC wasn't that great, but it was flattered by the god-awful FIFA port.

I used to be a massive PES advocate (PS2 era) but moved to FIFA 10 as the feel was so much better. Konami seem to have stalled with recent revisions.

Early indications say Fifa 11 should be good on the PC, they've at least acknowledged the last one was totally sub-standard and the recent gameplay videos look reasonable.

never lost its crown as the best football game in my opinion because for me pro evo 4 is still the best pro evo and football game ever.

I would welcome PES to catch up to give FIFA some heat.

It's not good enough releasing a slighty modified FIFA09 every year. Of course they add stuff every year, but also cut features, screw them.

Stupid article considering PES 2011 isnt quite finished yet. Look, Seabass has said the team have struggled this gen and what we are seeing in PES 2011 is what they wanted from the start. My hopes weren't high for PES 2011 but after playing the PS3 demo.. just amazed how much work has been put in on the new gameplay. Look forward to playing a demo of Fifa 11, but i am most definitely getting PES this year.

First off... LOL @ Kevin360.. for the past three years Seabass and Konami have gone on about how pes has finally caught up on the next gen system.. every single one of those three freaking years.. and each time there were broken promises.. how can you or any other self respecting football fan still be naive enough to believe them? If you want I can link you to an article on pesfan where Seabass flat out lied to everyone with the famous title of "online was top priority" which referred to pes2009 if I remember.. do you remember how that turned out?

I agree with the article title however I don't agree with the arguments for it.. marketing sure plays a big part but why pes won't catch up to fifa is down to the actual development money differences and the size of the team. If I recall, the pes development team is quite small in comparison to fifa's. Not only this, EA have far more money to throw at fifa if needs be to make sure it's a cut above the competition. Seabass and co clearly don't have the resources to make the radical step forward pes needs in order for it to even come close to fifa.

I haven't tried this years demo yet and look forward to but ultimately, there have been far too many broken promises and far too much hype for me to personally take pes seriously anymore. I've seen gameplay videos and I've not been impressed.. the fluidity of the animations still suck and the fact the ball is still glued to the players feet is pretty piss poor by today's standards.

Also i'm not a fifa fanboy before anyone goes there.. i'm a former PES nut and have even played some of the older games competitively at a very high level and beaten some of the best players in my country at it. However pes 2009 was the last straw for me personally and I moved onto fifa and haven't looked back since.

But for now. thanks to better game mechanics/gameplay, more licenses for teams, overall better experience

PES should just be an arcade football game. I'd buy it, it tries to be a sim and constantly fall short.

In some ways that's not a bad idea. On paper it would sound mental, but a move to fluid, arcade sensibilities with tons of depth would give PES an even greater identity. Help it stand out from FiFA better. Like the old ISS series.

i played the PES11 demo lastnight, what complete sh*t it is. i only played 2 matches then deleted it.

i used to be a Fifa haters cause it was so slow but now PES is really slow. Fifa10 was the first Fifa game i got since 98.

Pes menus were always better less cluttered than Fifa, pes 2010 was the first time they used a licensed soundtrack, yet another half assed article. I bought Fifa 10 and WC, very good games but not for me, hollow experience after 3 months playtime, i hated pes 2010 but i love the demo of 2011. Playing pes requires time but it depends on the gamer, all i can say people who have invested Time in the demo have radically changed their initial opinions from bad to good.
