Microsoft has recently announced a $10 price hike for their XBox Live Gold service, bringing the annual cost to play 360 games online now at $60. Microsoft said that since launching in 2002, they have added several features to the online service. The new price begins in November.

The move stands in stark contrast to the hopes of many gamers that the service may one day become free, much like the Playstation Network and Nintendo WiFi Connection. Microsoft has marked its position clearly on where it stands: They are making money and they don’t intend to stop.
