Was Obsidian Entertainment the smart choice for Fallout: New Vegas?

So one bad past game leaves the possibility of failure for any other future titles? More beyond this, Alpha Protocol was delayed so much it was never really destine to be great, even before release one developer stated it was a mistake to even bother on their part.

Fallout New Vegas has most of the original developers of the Fallout franchise from Black Isle, Hell, Obsidian has a large amount of developers from Black Isle.

They know what they're doing.

Yes, one bad game makes me question their future. They were given loads of time to get this game right and they still couldn't even get basic elements right.

From everything I've read, the problem with AP was mismanagement by the higher-ups at Obisdian.

I hope that they have learned from their mistakes and that management has been humbugged by their shitty game. They think they know what they are doing but when given the time and money to do it, they failed miserably.

But I do hope I'm wrong, there is nothing wrong with an other great game.

Don't forget Van Buren, Fallout 2, etc either. I'm really not a fan of Fallout 3 either, the game was good but it was lacking the depth of games like Oblivion. You're able to rebuild entire towns in Oblivion from the ground up yet you can in a post apocalyptic game where you even come across settlements specifically telling you they want to improve?

I'm also getting tired of people still blaming Obsidian for KotOR 2 when it was clear LA cut development time back by months to make the "Christmas rush". Having played various restored content mods on PC for the game the Obsidian folks have something epic in the works.

Chris Avellone remains a RPG god, the guy wrote Planescape Torment, that's enough for me. And he was kicked out of Alpha Protocol development by some suit who thought he could design the game

Since Obsidian was with Fallout at the beginning, I'd expect it to be good. It's Fallout 3 in Las Vegas essentially. I'm happy with that. But the fact that Obsidian is going to have Fallout 1 and 2 references but no Fallout 3 doesn't sit right with me. Fallout 3 is newer and more people have played it.

None the less I already preordered the Collectors Edition

I think obsidian's run of bad luck is gonna end with this game.Because,they have got a great publisher to work with.Atleast their storyline and dialogues are one of the best in industry.

As much as I love Fallout 3/Vegas, I'm going to wait for the GOTY edition. I'd rather get a game package that includes everything. The only downside to that is, having to wait a long time...

Fallout 3 was glitchy/crashy/freezy enough. It sounds like I'll have to wait for user reviews before I order this one.

F3 is built upon a horrible engine but apart from that Obsidians Fallout Reboot will trump Bethesdas. Obsidians strengths are stories and characters, coincidentally those are Bethesdas weaknesses.

I will probably pick this one up after some price reductions but I'm still mourning what Fallout has turned into (and that's mainly because of that damn Gamebryo engine).

People have every right to be very skeptical of Obsidian. Though there's no denying how awesome their past work was, there's also no denying that they've been infamous for giving sloppy seconds of games that were done better by the developer prior.

I will be playing the hell out of it regardless but a new engine would have been greatly appreciated. Fallout 3 does look quite dated but is fun to play which counts more IMO.
