CAPCOM add-ons charges for home consoles

From Japan's industrial business news, CAPCOM are planing to apply charges on Add-Ons for their games on home consoles (PS3 / Xbox 360 / Wii). They will add additional charge within the network on interactive elements like game props or game content. The president of CAPCOM Haruhiro Tsujimoto said "This plan will increase the income for its game software. The life of the games would be increased with this idea and this is indispensable."

This decision of CAPCOM will have certain impacts on video game market. It can also mean that they might charge for downloading patch in the future. :(

Games released on disc is moving towards a "sampler" or "startup pack". The strategy is all about giving the gamers the taste and once addicted, they can sell you all kinds of DLCs which are the real contents.

The only way to resist this kind of marketing strategy is not buy the games to begin with. Yet, not enough gamers have the self will power to resist which is the reason the game publishers can keep moving more contents to DLC because they know there will be enough gamers that will buy them.

Agree with me or not on this, it's where the games are going. The days of having everything included and unlocked on the disc is fading away. To the game publishers, it's all about the most profit they can make. Gamers can complain but unless we stop buying such games, the game publishers win.

My own strategy is not to buy games that have very little playable contents unlocked on the disc. I buy games that have enough playable contents on the disc that is worth the price and I rarely buy DLC.

Well said! I agree with everything you just said. Its too bad that gamers still always hope there's DLC and all this crap. They don't realize, by asking for DLC they're ruining the game industry and that's why Publishers take strategies like what Capcom is doing now.

Its just sad. If it continues like this i'll probably find another hobby that doesn't nickle and dime me everytime i want a new experience or want to unlock a costume or character.

I'd rather pay $60 and have a disc to show for it then pay $60 for a LICENSE to play a certain game.

I may get SSFIV at some point, but I'm definitely going to buy it second hand so that Capcom doesn't get a penny of my money.

And I have no interest in buying lame costume packs.
