The only way to make this a non-generic fps title, is if it was Dead Space scary. if not, then meh

Kleptic5440d ago

I totally disagree dude...as I am hoping for much more of an original doom like game...Imo Doom 3 isn't even a game in the franchise...

I want a new doom game that has WAY too many enemies on screen at once...WAY overpowered weapons...and completely unrealistic pacing, with you being able to sprint faster than a go kart...jumping in and out of toxic waste that is randomly put throughout a level for no reason whatsoever...walking into huge rooms with nothing but torso's and ripped off arms and legs swinging on chains...I want waterfalls of blood, goat heads plastered all over walls, and bodies impaled on sticks...

I want it to have an equally impressive multiplayer component...with full co-op of every single player level for some amount of players that is ridiculous...

most of all though I want Romero himself to direct it...

I don't want a reboot...again...that has gimmicky tricks that are more frustrating than scary...I don't want it to be 200 years in the future, but my weapons don't have flashlights attached to them...I don't want to have to pull out an ancient mag light (the bastard wasn't even an LED, apparently the Wal Mart on Mars was sold out and our space marine was stuck with an incandescent crapper) just to see my way down a corridor...I don't want to fight 3 imps at once and have iD claiming that is 'intense'...

I just want Doom back...not Doom 3...which played like a sequel to Doom 64...not some 'scary' doom, i want it focused on over the top action with awesome art design...not a doom that feels and plays as limp as a tech demo for a new rendering engine...

you never played Doom 3 right?

Dead Space more scary?

JsonHenry5440d ago

Why does everyone think that Dead Space was scary?!

Kornholic5440d ago

@JsonHenry

You're not supposed to play Dead Space in the day time with all the lights on. "Look at me, I'm a tough guy and I am not afraid of anything!"

The atmosphere itself in Dead Space is very good.

The Great Melon5440d ago (Edited 5440d ago )

Dead Space punishes for not being aware of your surrounding. Every 2 steps I turned around to make sure nothing was following me. And what do you know half the time something had crawled out of the wall to rip me up.

@Kornholic

Yeah any games like Doom, Dead Space, horror based in general I play at night with the lights out and the volume up. Definitely the best way to play those games.

arakouftaian5440d ago

It looks old it plays to slow and i was not scary at all just slow acction game kind of like RE4,5 but boring.

Know a game like Siren is what i call scary not Death Space i mean even Fear felt moré scary than Death Space

ProjectVulcan5440d ago (Edited 5440d ago )

Doom is huge! One of the biggest names in gaming history, lets have some respect here for that legacy, just because there hasnt been a game knocked out every couple years like other so called big franchises doesnt mean this name should be forgotten...It should be applauded if anything for not selling out as such. All these generic shooters being knocked out owe a massive amount to this franchise- respect the Godfathers of the genre!

This will arrive with an increase in technology again and stun us all like doom 3 did. I also predict the battle is well and truly on between crysis 2 and this for the best looking game ever, coming to a Pc near you next year...

JsonHenry5440d ago

I didn't!! I played at night after my kids went to bed. How the hell can you be scared when your character is a walking tank that can easily kill anything he comes across?

I guess REAL horror games like Silent Hill just spoiled me on the creepy factor. There was nothing, literally nothing, that was scary about Dead Space to me.

And the atmosphere was good. But I have played so many space demon games since the original Doom that it just kinda feels generic to me now. I DID like the game. I just felt it was more like the new Resident Evil games. Good, but NOT scary in the slightest.

After DOOM3, I'm not sure I really care...

JsonHenry5440d ago

I really liked Doom 3. Can't wait for Doom 4. Supposed to be back on Earth this time around right? Maybe it will be open world like Rage is going to be. That would be AWESOME.

edhe5440d ago

I tried the demo - got bored of looking at the black then went back to something else.

So yes, agreed.

IMHO Quake & Doom have been dead to me for years.

dizzleK5440d ago (Edited 5440d ago )

oh god i hope so, doom is my favorite series.

gillri5440d ago

yeah Doom 3 was a disapoointment somewhat, needs to go back to a bigger scale hopefully

not sure how Doom will match up these days with your Halo Reach's, Killzone 3's and Crysis 2's out there

Colonel-Killzone5440d ago

If this is true the gaming community will be rejoicing.

What's cool is you can see some of the animations they kept and revised for 2016.

nirwanda1650d ago

When you strip everything back you can really see how great the animation is.
It's amazing how far games have come.

glenn19791650d ago

For me its always interesting to see some prototype of a game of something else and see the final product on why they go another direction in the end

RaidenBlack1650d ago

My favorite is the MGS:Rising vs MGR:Revengeance.(I preferred the Kojima's one)
Another interesting one is Splinter Cell Conviction Concept vs Retail

spicelicka1650d ago

I don't see what is "COD-like" here? Just because there's 2 seconds footage with ironsight?

Concertoine1650d ago

The devs were openly going for the cinematic shooter style that was popular in the years this was developed. COD-like Doom was pretty much the pitch.

Fluke_Skywalker1650d ago

Looks pish, no wonder it got canned.

Every Doom Game Ever

Whilst the FPS genre has since had a tonne of fantastic franchises, such as Quake, Unreal and Serious Sam, Doom remains at the top of the pile, and has one of the best comeback stories in video game history. Doom is almost 30 years running, and has even bled into other mediums such as feature films and novels. As it has been going for so long, there have been a large number of entries in the series, and there are probably a few you never played. This is every Doom game ever.

Why Development Stopped On DOOM 4

According to ID Executive Producer Marty Stratton, DOOM 4 was scrapped because "it was more 'DOOM' in name than really anything."

Dabigsiebowski1952d ago

Because they wanted to punish John Carmack.

AK911952d ago

From reports apparently Doom 4 was shaping up to be COD but set in the DOOM universe, honestly really glad that didn’t happen.

Profchaos1952d ago

Pretty much they wanted to make it to meet what was selling at the time and in doing so it lost the soul of what makes doom doom.

MadLad1952d ago

Even Doom 3 did that, despite being a solid game all the same. Not mind blowing, in my opinion, but a solid title.

1951d ago
Segata1951d ago

Because it was Call of Duty with generic demons on Earth. Looked worse than the 2009 Wolfenstein. They made the right call.
