Gone are the days where you’d be nudged from right to left a dozen times before engaging in 8bit battle with fire-breathing boss. Now we can fly helicopters to entirely different cities, clamber over rooftops at will and swim to brand new islands. We’ve literally come a long way. The only great ones are Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. Open world games are usually shovel ware because they're unpolished and the graphics are always mediocre.

GTA 4 is one of the most boring open world maps ever, GTA SA should have made it instead, what made the world so fun wasn't just its variety of the map but the freedom of it , there was just so much to do, and traveling was amazing, you could use anything from a bike, to a jumbo jet. man rockstar took a huge step backwards with GTA 4

GTA:SA, Borderlands, Infamous, AC I/II, RDR, Twilight Princes. Their are probably more. But those are the ones that come to mind.

Also, Okami, Rogue Galaxy, and Jak 3 were great games.

I was tempted to ask "what, no Spiderman 2?!" But then I thought about it and open world should also has a good level of interaction eith the environment/ normal a.i. characters. Sorry Spidey, ya didn't make the cut:(

Well strictly speaking Mass Effect isn't an open world game. Hwoever it allows freedom to go where you want in the galaxy and is great so I will overlook it. However where the hell is Crackdown, Elder Scrolls, inFAMOUS, and Saints Row (2)?
