If Starcraft 2 gets disconnected from battle.net whiling playing singleplayer campaign, make sure to reconnect before saving…. you can loose hours of gameplay from battle.net, this is a very huge bug from Blizzard. It’s kinda sad. Note also you cannot safe the game after being disconnected from the sc2 server.

What? So you can't actually play the single player offline?

Xwow20085428d ago

for this reason and the eroupe price for the game ( 60 euro), i decided to download the torrent version.

Its really stupid thing for blizzard to do :(

Newtype5428d ago

Stupid part of the game, it's all greed related. They want to make sure no copy is a pirated version.

hazelamy5428d ago

they want to make sure no copy is pirated?
nice idea, shame it's impossible, this wont stop piracy for longer than it takes to crack the drm, give it a couple of days.
any anti piracy system that means the pirates get a better experience than legitimate users is a total and utter failure.
maybe this one isn't as bad as ubisoft's bullcrap drm, but history has proven drm just does not work, if anything it makes things worse, because it can drive people who would have bought the game to pirate it because they won't have to deal with bullshit drm.

Brugs5428d ago

Nope, you always connected to battle.net

Perjoss5428d ago

don't spread lies, a few mins ago I was playing in 'guest mode' with my connection turned off and you dont even need to have the disc in the drive. Thats with a retail copy of the game and no cracks. You need to log in the first time you activate the game though.

In guest mode you can play the campaign, you can also play the challenge modes and you can play skirmish matches vs the AI.

ATi_Elite5428d ago

for me I don't have a problem with always being connected to the internet to play a game. If it will cut down on Piracy and force developers to make ALL PC games look like Crysis or better then I'm all for it.

Until then we (PC gamers) will continue to get console ports and cries of Piracy every time we question the quality of some of our games.

Blizzard Valve Bioware DICE and some others make incredible PC games and deserve every FAIR dollar they can make so that they continue doing good work for us PC gamers.

An always on Internet connection is the cheapest way for a developer to secure their game without jacking up the price.

Besides most people have broadband and are always connected anyway even when gaming offline.

KingKiff5428d ago

Could not have put it better myself. Bubble + lol

Cheeseknight285428d ago

You CAN play this offline. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

You have to connect one time to Battle.net to authorize your account. After that, if you connect while offline it will give you the option to try and reconnect or "Play Offline"

Click Play Offline and you can play the campaign to your heart's content. Everything is enabled except achievements. Before anyone says otherwise, you can save.

--

On the topic of this article, I was disconnected earlier while playing the campaign, saved me game, exited starcraft II, reconnected, and I could load just fine. I have no idea what happened to the article writer - but it was a rare glitch I'm thinking.

grailly5428d ago

I had kind of the same problem as the writer, but I didn't lose my save.
I disconnected while loading a cutscene at the end of a mission, and the game ended up loading the first cutscene of the campaign and then prompted me to start the first mission. kinda weird...I just quit the campaign page and reloaded it, luckily, I was fine.

You'd think after Blizzard saw what happened to Ubisoft, they'd learn that having an "always on" connection is the dumbest thing to happen to known gaming.

STONEY45428d ago (Edited 5428d ago )

Ass Creed 2 kinda flopped on PC and was boycotted by a ton of people because they forced you to be connected all the time, and if you disconnected while playing, you were kicked out of your until reconnected, then set back to the last auto-save.

For a game like Starcraft 2, it kinda makes sense with the achievements, stats and such, plus you can play single-player offline (as long as you start it offline, or else this bug happens I'm guessing). Assassin's Creed 2 has no excuse though, it's a solely single-player game. Hell, I don't know anyone who bought it on PC.

distorted_reality5428d ago

Or they looked at Valve and saw what a success it can be when done correctly, which it seems they are doing if you actually play the game.

EditorAtGNG5428d ago

Glad I missed Blizzard's transformation to being an Activision bitch. This, is the first act and children, get off the train while its past the first station.

Cheeseknight285428d ago

Might want to find a new source before you start spouting flamebait.

Newtype5428d ago

Activision has got to be related to it, before Blizzard merged their games never required this crap.

WC3 was probably the last great BNet game.

Cheeseknight285428d ago

You know what they required instead? For you to have a disk in your computer all the time.

Now let's think here, which is better... always being connected to the internet, or having a disc in all the time? Considering quite a few laptops do not have drives anymore (You have to buy a USB disk reader), this answer is really obvious. (For the record, my laptop has a disc drive and plays SCII extremely well)

Before anyone says it, yes they did remove that requirement. But that was many, many years after release.

skip2mylou5428d ago

my laptop has a drive so idk what you talking about destops still have drives too

steve30x5428d ago

StarcraftII saves your game on your HDD so I cant see why this is true.

Spenok5427d ago

Wow, that sucks big time.

'StarCraft: Remastered', 'StarCraft II' Now Available on PC Game Pass

This week, Blizzard Entertainment dropped both 'StarCraft: Remastered' and 'StarCraft II Campaign Collection' into PC Game Pass.

meganick211d ago

Hopefully these get released on Switch and Playstation, along with Age of Empires. There’s a severe lack of good RTS games on both those platforms.

waytoobad210d ago

if only they didn't raise the price 500% last year.

Let the COD on GamePass experiment begin!
I would think their quarterly revenue will take a hit compared to a year ago, but will maybe make up for it throughout the year as the monthly GP subs keep coming in

pwnmaster3000235d ago

Was up with call of duty man?
I downloaded cod on gamepass and for some reason I cannot access the game.

darthv72235d ago

just curious what version? There are some that you can pre-load, but they wont work until their release date later this month.

pwnmaster3000235d ago

I have to redownload it again for the 3rd time to check.
I ended up just deleting it to make room for other games after the second time.

It was on Xbox game pass, I didn’t know there was other versions. I just downloaded everything, but sadly I couldn’t even access the game. Maybe 3rd time the charm. I’ll download it again.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH235d ago

It’s not out yet man unless you’re talking about MW3.

pwnmaster3000235d ago

I’m talking about mw3. For some reason I could not get it to work.

just_looken235d ago

On xbox there is the last gen/current gen versions pc though you could also get a xbox version.

When that new forza first came out for one day they had the xbox version on the pc store i was like ? what it was odd.

On xbox you can easily download the one version of a game instead of the series version so you run into issues on your series console.

pwnmaster3000234d ago

Because a game won’t run after I download it??
Man your kids must hate your @ss if that’s how you think.

It's going to be very interesting to follow up on how the new entry of CoD will perform at the box office, player numbers and distribution of Xbox, PC and PS versions this year.

DivineHand125235d ago

I got excited thinking they ported StarCraft to consoles but it's just the PC version. Also, I thought Starcraft 2 was already free to play.

TheColbertinator235d ago

I'm certain it is going to be the Campaign Collection version.

$15 horse for WoW made more money than StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Jason Hall, currently an indie developer and former Blizzard employee, has been sharing some really interesting stories from his long career in the industry for a while now. Some of them are truly insightful, while others may seem depressing.

I’m a little shocked that StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty sold only around 6 million copies. The original StarCraft did over 11 million. Maybe Blizzard was too leisurely in releasing StarCraft 2? Starcraft 2 came out 12 years after it’s predecessor.

Plague-Doctor27570d ago (Edited 570d ago )

Im surprised too. Starcraft was still a huge name in 2010. It was kinda the only new RTS around and other genres like MOBAs hadn't really kicked off yet. I do remember at the time sentiment around the game was
pretty angry the game was being split into 3 but I doubt that would have impacted sales to that degree

Sciurus_vulgaris570d ago

For a long time I believed StarCraft II sold on par or better than its predecessor. There was so much hype for the game. Plus it had a pretty strong E-Sports scene for a few years.

Myself and half a dozen friends all bought StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and played it religiously for a full year. While I bought the expansions, most of my friends did not. RPGs seem to be a generally low selling genre.

Nerdmaster570d ago

I'm not shocked at all. This was an early example of Blizzard being greedy. Instead of releasing a complete experience, splitting Starcraft 2 in 3 parts so it could make us purchase it 3 times if we wanted to know the whole story and play story mode with the other races.

Sciurus_vulgaris570d ago

I originally had that stance. However, Wings of Liberty, was just as long, if not longer than StarCraft 1. The expansions were of decent length too and added a good amount of additional content.

il-JumperMT570d ago

and people wonder why we are having mtx in everything. i blame the people who actual buy them.

Nerdmaster570d ago

It's interesting he used Brazil as an example of the importance of regional pricing. Nowadays many companies on Steam are setting their prices in Brazil as high as, if not more than, their price in USA. I simply refused to buy a few games when I noticed that's the case.

Extermin8or3_570d ago

This right here is the fucking problem.
