Best Amiga Games ever

Simply put, Commodore’s Amiga hasn’t stood the test of time. You’d struggle to find it at a car boot sale - its legacy was halted when Nintendo and Sega led the masses away from floppy disks and on to cartridges. Even so, the Amiga still has a place in many a man’s heart and to celebrate its 25th birthday we compiled the best games that were played on it

syndicate and switchblade are good. Team 17 stuff was good for the most part. I liked shadow of the beast and the amiga had the best pc versions of the bluth laserdisc based games (dragon's lair, space ace). I actually still have those games but no longer the amiga.

I had an A1200 w/zappo 2x ext CD-ROM and 68030 accel board w/4mb of RAM. I still got my 1084s monitor. I used it for RGB connections on the genesis, snes and even the jaguar.

One of the best games I liked was a game called Walker. It was a cool time travel type of game where you are in the (duh) walker (like in star wars) and you would travel through different periods of history chasing after some crazy guy who is trying to change everything. It may sound cheesy but it sure was fun to play.

Amiga was great and the CD32 was cool also even if it failed.

Bitmap Brothers were great....Xenon, GODS, Speedball, Magic Pockets, Chaos Engine. What would it be brilliant to remake all of there titles in HD.

And sourly missing from this list. Most of these games I haven't even heard of, despite years of gaming on the PC. Flashback, Civ and Lemmings are the only ones I recognize. Syndicate and Populous were two of my favorites. Shadow of the Beast, Pirates were two other excellent titles. And GODS! How GODS isn't on this list is beyond me.

The library of great Amiga software is immense. That is a solid top 10 but only one of those games would be in mine probably (Civ). I had the Amiga1000 at my parent's house when I was little and dumped every bit of money I could earn into games for it.

Double Dragon, Speedball 1+2, Xenon, Sidewinder, Apache, Bard's Tale 2: Destiny Knight, Defender of the Crown, Space Quest, Faery Tale (huge game), Marble Madness. I sunk countless hours into all those games and I would rank them higher than most on that list. It is all personal preference but with that many quality titles it is easy to see massive variation in people's favorites.

where is Out of This World, Megalomania, or Shadow of the Beast? No PC, console, or arcade game holds as special place in my heart as my Amiga(s) (maybe my C64, maybe). If Amiga would have stayed on the market I would probably still be an owner, rather than just be a keeper of my old macked out 2000 and beloved Video toaster. I am glad that N4G didn't exist when the Amiga did, or I would have been a teenage fanboy scoffing at the the weak consoles and letting you all know how superior my Amiga was. I guess growing up is a good thing..lol

All subjective ofcourse, I can name a lot of different Amiga 500 games or Amiga 1200 games I like better maybe.

But have to agree with Sensible Soccer, I played that bitch so many hours with friends. And as Soda mentioned above, James Pond 2, great just great. I also enjoyed Zool by the way, maybe not the best in its genre, but it was just cool to me.

Still the Amiga 500 days has been I think the gaming period I found the most interesting, or add the MSX-2 for a bit also, many new ideas, very alive group of users and demo hobbyists making great music demos. Maybe those times get revived by the current stream of play/create/share games on the PS3 a bit like upcoming LBP2 might kickstart home creativity for a system a bit more again.

One of my roommates in college had it our Sophomore year. I went the summer thinking I'd play it again Fall semester, but last minute he transferred to IU. We had rented a house and everything.

Great gaming days had a great collection I remember sleep walker a comic relief game. V was cool.. I remember gettting amiga magazine with floppy disc of public domain stuff on it great times it was a blast the amiga was awesome

I loved every game made by the Bitmap Brothers - Gods, the Chaos Engine, Speedball, Xenon 2 and most of all Cadaver. The most talented video game developer team ever. :) I also have good memories of Cannon Fodder and Megalomania.

Commodore may have died, but Amiga did not! I still use my old A1200 with lots of stuff added to it to make it more modern. Power PC processor, USB, Ethernet, Wifi, 16Bit sound, 3D GFX card 80GB HDD, DVD writer, 256MB ram all stuffed in that old desktop case. That setup plays WipeOut 2097 and Quake II very nicely thanks! ;) As for "classic Games" I love Super Stardust and Super Skidmarks to name only 2 of many that I still play now :)

Indeed... Amiga has stood the test of time better than most gaming platforms which is why they are uncommon in car boot sales, guys in their 30s are still getting pleasure from their 3.5" floppies! A regular blow keeps them dust free and in good condition. My Amiga sits proudly beside my Neo-Geo.

Got to love the Amiga, I had an A500+, then got an A1200 which I upgraded the hell out of until I'd spent thousands on it. CD-ROM, Apollo '040 with 4meg!!! and that IDEFix you needed to use a Hard Drive AND a CD-ROM drive LOL ... then I went crazy and spent stupid amounts of money getting the PowerPC accelerators, sadly they were released at the point when the Amiga was dying so not a good investment.

I remember playing Quake and Doom, even though "PC Owners" claimed the Amiga couldn't do such a thing LOL but still my favorite games have the be the likes of UFO: Enemy Unknown, Syndicate, Sensible Soccer, Settlers, Worms, Cannon Fodder ... and many more. I also loved the Demo Scene, it's amazing even to this day what they managed to create.

Simply the greatest machines to grace home computing ever. Introduced so many people to gaming, programming, digital art and music. One of the first proper multitasking GUIs, dedicated graphic and sound hardware. Ahead of it's time in almost every way.

The legacy of the miggy lives on in many of the developers who work in the industry today and of course in UAE.

Still have all my hardware in pristine condition:

A500+ Cartoon classics pack with 1mb chip expansion.

Oh and on topic my youth was all sensi soccer and not one of you mentioned the greatest.... Microprose Formula One Grand Prix. An unbelievable game for the time.

Still own an AMIGA CD32 and an Amiga 1200, which is in a Towerhawk box with a Blizzard 1230 card, 66 MB RAM, a "huge" internal 80MB HD, SCSI CD-ROM and a 850MB SCSI quantum HD which is sadly stuck. :-(

Wow I used to play Flashback for hours, I'd forgotten about that, Sensible Soccer was great too. There were loads of great games, I even liked the Captain Planet game but couldn't get passed the Heart level. All the great games we still play today were born then.
