Best Amiga Games ever

Simply put, Commodore’s Amiga hasn’t stood the test of time. You’d struggle to find it at a car boot sale - its legacy was halted when Nintendo and Sega led the masses away from floppy disks and on to cartridges. Even so, the Amiga still has a place in many a man’s heart and to celebrate its 25th birthday we compiled the best games that were played on it

No Syndicate? One of the greatest amiga games of all time.

NewZealander5385d ago

no switchblade II? that was my fave.

darthv725385d ago

syndicate and switchblade are good. Team 17 stuff was good for the most part. I liked shadow of the beast and the amiga had the best pc versions of the bluth laserdisc based games (dragon's lair, space ace). I actually still have those games but no longer the amiga.

I had an A1200 w/zappo 2x ext CD-ROM and 68030 accel board w/4mb of RAM. I still got my 1084s monitor. I used it for RGB connections on the genesis, snes and even the jaguar.

One of the best games I liked was a game called Walker. It was a cool time travel type of game where you are in the (duh) walker (like in star wars) and you would travel through different periods of history chasing after some crazy guy who is trying to change everything. It may sound cheesy but it sure was fun to play.

Oh wow, i didnt realize i rambled there for a bit.

Amiga was great and the CD32 was cool also even if it failed.

oh yes, those were the gauss gun days ;)

GODS & most things from the bitmap brothers

klapkip5385d ago (Edited 5385d ago )

Bitmap Brothers were great....Xenon, GODS, Speedball, Magic Pockets, Chaos Engine. What would it be brilliant to remake all of there titles in HD.

Umb5385d ago

Just rocked - Lords of the Rising Sun, Defender of teh Crown, it came from the dester, Wings, etc.

Yi-Long5385d ago (Edited 5385d ago )

... Where's the brilliant Turrican? Where's Monkey Island 1 & 2!? Where's Superfrog (the best platformer on the Amiga), etc etc.

This top 10 is OK, but certainly not complete.

edit: Damn... now I really want a good emulator (either for the PC or for my PSP) so I can play all those old classics again...

SolidAhmed5385d ago

where is shadow of the beast ?????????

Anon19745385d ago

And sourly missing from this list. Most of these games I haven't even heard of, despite years of gaming on the PC. Flashback, Civ and Lemmings are the only ones I recognize. Syndicate and Populous were two of my favorites. Shadow of the Beast, Pirates were two other excellent titles. And GODS! How GODS isn't on this list is beyond me.

maawdawg5385d ago (Edited 5385d ago )

The library of great Amiga software is immense. That is a solid top 10 but only one of those games would be in mine probably (Civ). I had the Amiga1000 at my parent's house when I was little and dumped every bit of money I could earn into games for it.

Double Dragon, Speedball 1+2, Xenon, Sidewinder, Apache, Bard's Tale 2: Destiny Knight, Defender of the Crown, Space Quest, Faery Tale (huge game), Marble Madness. I sunk countless hours into all those games and I would rank them higher than most on that list. It is all personal preference but with that many quality titles it is easy to see massive variation in people's favorites.

Redgehammer5385d ago

where is Out of This World, Megalomania, or Shadow of the Beast? No PC, console, or arcade game holds as special place in my heart as my Amiga(s) (maybe my C64, maybe). If Amiga would have stayed on the market I would probably still be an owner, rather than just be a keeper of my old macked out 2000 and beloved Video toaster. I am glad that N4G didn't exist when the Amiga did, or I would have been a teenage fanboy scoffing at the the weak consoles and letting you all know how superior my Amiga was. I guess growing up is a good thing..lol

hay5385d ago

I don't really like you Soda for your fanboy trolling but hell, high five for The Chaos Engine. It's also my fav from amiga times.
I still play it sometimes. Good stuff, good stuff.

Freak of Nature5385d ago

Meerkat & Arkham ...Bubbles to you both...

Wow,I cannot believe that anyone even remembers Harlequin and Leander.2 of the most underated games ever made on the Amiga.....Without doubt 2 of the top 10 games,if not top 5 IMO on the Amiga!

Robearboy5385d ago

You have to include rainbow islands, parasol stars, midnight resistance, Lemmings and Flashback (better than another world IMO)

AllroundGamer5385d ago (Edited 5385d ago )

definitely better list than in the article :) and as a former Amiga 500, Amiga 600 and Amiga CD32 owner i would also put Ufo Enemy Unknown, Walker and Steel Empire in your list - just listen to the epic intro music :) http://www.youtube.com/watc...

TheMART5385d ago

All subjective ofcourse, I can name a lot of different Amiga 500 games or Amiga 1200 games I like better maybe.

But have to agree with Sensible Soccer, I played that bitch so many hours with friends. And as Soda mentioned above, James Pond 2, great just great. I also enjoyed Zool by the way, maybe not the best in its genre, but it was just cool to me.

Still the Amiga 500 days has been I think the gaming period I found the most interesting, or add the MSX-2 for a bit also, many new ideas, very alive group of users and demo hobbyists making great music demos. Maybe those times get revived by the current stream of play/create/share games on the PS3 a bit like upcoming LBP2 might kickstart home creativity for a system a bit more again.

Each one a good call - but Chase H.Q was a big miss.

What If... Destiny 2's Gambit Was a Hit?

Destiny already has the pretty hyper 'raid' fixation and then they added legendary raid dungeons. Hyperfixating in PvEvP wouldn't work as well because you need a lot more than 2% of the userbase to keep that going unlike raids that are propped up by streamers who make running them their whole job. Most players don't play all the raids let alone run them over and over. And most who play PvP don't want structured PvE elements.
