The Top 5 Franchises That Need to Die

In the words of The Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas: “Enough is enough.” (Obscure references FTW!) Sometimes, things just get to be too much. The market gets saturated with one game or strung out by poor releases. Some gaming franchises just need to die. Here’s a list of some of the top ones and why they need to go:

agreed, I really wish people would shut up about it only being a roster update each year. If they actually played the game they would notice a difference. In the end however it's a football sim, you can't go changing the core of a game.

Yeah, so don't release a new one every year. If you're just gonna update the roster, patch it and make it free also.

If you want to make a good football sequel? Make it first person instead of top down and play as one person while everyone else on your team and your opponents can either be COMPs or other players online.

See right there? I did more innovation than EA did in the last 2 decades.

I agree with the article writer, all those IPs need to die. Heck, Activision, Sega, Squeenix and a few other publisher/developers need to die also.

I love the list. I wish ALL sports games would release a new version every two years. During the off year, they can have a patch update for the roster. It would allow developers to add more and better features every two years.

What an idiot Halo reach is not the same as the other halos just as halo Ce to halo 2 was different than halo 2 to halo 3 of course they play similar because that is what I expect and fans expect. If uncharted 2 became a FPS do you think there would be a lot of pissed of fans? or if MGS became a pure puzzle game? fans want from sequels is to improve and add from the original with out drastically changing the core game-play.

Honesty it sounds like he just put halo there because he doesn't like it. How can halo 3s multi-player be going stale if it is always in the x-box live top 5 lists since its release.

Agreed. Halo is still a great franchise. If this clown had actually played the beta he would realize that it plays differently than CE, 2 or 3.

I only play 2 of these COD and GH but GH needs to die because it will never be as good as Rock Band. Call of Dauty has always been overrated. I have to agree that every franchise on this list needs to die.

5. Every CoD release has been pretty great. While I'm not a fan of the multiplayer personally, I think even the haters will admit that the single-player campaigns are second to none.

4. Sonic the Hedgehog 4, anyone? Focus on the meat, not the potatoes. Spinoffs happen. By your rationale, shouldn't Mario on this list?

3. Halo Wars is nothing like the other Halo games. ODST is a completely different type of gameplay. Halo Reach is also quite different from Halo 3 multiplayer, not to mention the fact that we haven't played the single player campaign, which may offer many more differences from the numbered Halo games.

2. Big agree. 1/5 ain't bad.

1. I'm torn here. Yearly sports titles are like a warm blanket. I look forward to picking up the new NHL every September. Some more competition, specifically with the NFL titles, would probably be a good thing, but even Madden games are more than annual "roster updates".

I think that all saturated franchises that came from the 80/90´s (like Bionic Comando or Tomb Raider) should be put to sleep and games like gh and cod need to stop in having sequells every year.

And abt Halo i think this one can stay as long it delivers some inovation every once in a while. (for more 5 years or so)
