Moonbase Alpha has launched into Steam's orbit as a free download. A pre-cursor to NASA's MMO Astronaut: Moon, Mars, and Beyond, the game offers single and multi-player maps for players to complete a special lunar mission. Examiner took a special look at this brand new venture into educational gaming with NASA.
The developers of Moonbase Alpha, a simulator where you play an astronaut, had no idea that their text-to-speech tool would be the one thing that put their game on the map. This is trolling at its finest and not in a bad sense either. See, the developers installed this text-to-speech tool to help the alpha testers communicate until they got the VOIP functioning. Whatever you type into the chat bar, gets read aloud by a computer-like voice. The alpha testers enjoyed it so much that the developers decided to keep it.
