Dirt In September for PS3

Codemasters announced Today that Colin McRae: DIRT will launch this September for the Playstation 3.

Thanks to a spectacular damage system, gamers will experience the game's high impact moments through detailed visuals, force feedback steering wheel functionality and a top-spec audio system exclusive to the format.

I've been playing this for a while on the 360 and it's a great game. Another good racer to now add on for the PS3. This will help balance against Motorstorm, which is way more "arcade-y". DIRT is a great rally sim, and a piss load of fun.

Codemasters should've made this game a timed PC and PS3 exclusive,
i think they are adding extra value into the PS3 version because the xbox version didn't sell very well because of forza 2.

Good game if you are into racing games... and you don't mind playing single player only. I know is Rally... but.. the online multiplay shouldn't be called online multiplay...

yeah does the PS3 still have the leaderboard only thing? the PC and 360 only had a online mode similar to Motorstorms time attack thing...where you simply race ghosts and compete for the best time...

I don't know...back at the end of 06, I thought Dirt would be the one for me to get...then Motorstorm came out and I rented it for the online...and was instantly hooked...its unrealistic...and there are not many race modes...but its incredibly fun...and it has a true online race system...where you can push your friends off cliffs and into boulders...

when i read about the online "multiplay", i said wow thats a cool interactive ranking system! i had no clue they were tying to pass that off as multiplayer lol. what the hell were they thinkin with that junk

The physics suck on this game. It doesn't feel real at all. I played it on my 360 and hated it. The cars float and the breaks are 100 times better than they should be. Just my 2 cents.

Im a big sims fan, who has loved the GT and TOCA series. However, the lack of 1 to 1 online implementation, really castrated this games appeal for me. I dont understand some of the decisions racing developers are making lately. F1 had so much promise, yet they didnt implement ForceFeedback on the wheels. Now, this from Codemasters. Im not sure what audience they think theyre driving at.

Im hoping GT Prologue will tie me over until 5 comes out, and Ive been playing a little Forza 2 on a friends Xbox. However, Im not terribly happy with the MS wireless wheel for that game, in comparison to Logitechs DFP and G25 wheels. Been thinking about gettting a 360 because of the sad state of racing/driving sims, but, I have a hard time considering going to a hand controller.

GT 5 was confirmed to have all of this years 07 F1 spec cars...and tracks...GT5 will pretty much be F1 07 with a whole bunch of other stuff...sort of...not sure if you will be able to do an actual F1 racing season or something...they only confirmed the cars and tracks...

I love this game for the 360 especially with the MS wheel- it has great forced feedback... I just wished the online play was better. I guess the PS3 version is suppose to be better? If you have a PS3- try this game- what is a good forced feedback wheel for the PS3?

the physics are appalling, the car brakes from 100 mph to 0 in less than a second.

how they can call it a rally game is beyond me, you can't even get the cars sideways.

i loved the older colin mccrae games but this is terrible, don't waste your money. its almost as though the car has no weight which imo is not acceptable.

the physics were better on cm1 on ps1

flatout has a more realistic driving engine.

I would recommend you try before you buy this game. Granted the visuals are pretty however, on the 360 version there are noticable frame rate drops and I even detected tearing on the 60hz HDTV I was using. Oh yes, another annoyance is how you can drive through foliage and see it pass through the front of your car. As for the in-car views they are nice but totally useless for actually playing the game for prolonged periods.

Whats much worse however are the physics and handling. As 'Bumnut' (who thinks of these names???) above expressed, you can stop the car on a dime even on a dirt or muddy surface. I will say however that the damage modeling looks better than that in Forza 2 - get a fender bender and it doesn't look like you car was attacked by a sand blaster!

Final gripe, on-line play is pretty lame. Its not something that actually helps sell the game in my opinion. It seems more like an after thought by the developers. Basically, you won't be buying this game for its on-line experience.

If they fix the above issues on the PS3 then to this is a definite AAA rally game. As it currently stands on the 360, I would have to say that Rallisport Challenge 2 on the original Xbox provides a better all round experience.
