In case you're not familiar with it, R-Type is a side-scrolling shooter that gives you a fairly slow moving ship to pilot and throws wave upon wave of aliens at you. It stands out for several reasons, including the awesome music, the Force pod that you can attach to the back or front of your ship, the volume of enemies, and the sadistic difficulty level.
A set of screenshots on released today suggests not only that the game is on the way but that it has been taken on by EA.
