For the four weeks ending May 29, 2010 NPD says $823.5 million was spent on video games in the United States. That is drop from May 2009 when $863.3 million was spent on video games. The major culprit for the decline was hardware - which is selling at lower prices and lower rates than in 2009.

I have to disagree. Personally, I feel like DD2 still needs a lot of optimization. I really dislike games that try to sell a bunch of DLC when their game is still a mess.
Where does the time go?
Xbox discusses the brand licensing strategies connecting iconic video game franchises with the world’s most diverse fan base.
We asked MS, why are you so amazing and how do you come up with the ideas for creating such titles as Call of Duty and Elder Scrolls?
Wow, they released the NPD numbers? Correct me if I am wrong but aren't they supposed to do this every second thursday of each month?
M$ has seriously locked up the U.S region with HD consoles. Outside America, it seems PS3 is doing extremely well. Lets see how June figures turn out to be. I am guessing M$ will have a big margin over PS3 because of the Xbox 360 S but they need to do something good outside America too because they are almost dead in Japan and Europe loves PS3 as well.
I would really like to know where vgchartz get their numbers from Europe and Rest of the World (beside USA and Japan) ?
Short answer... they don't. They make their numbers up. It's impossible to know the numbers from Europe and Rest of the World (beside USA and Japan).
