Everytime I look at software sales, I see a Wii title among the top 10. The fact is Nintendo has multiple franchises that hold as much consumer interest as Halo. They don’t have the hardcore appeal to sell ungodly millions in a few short months, but over time they are just as successful because they appeal to a broader base of gamers.

'Hardcore games' is just a matter of opinion, it doesn't mean anything. A game is a game. You can classify games into genres - Rpgs,Fps,TPS,etc - but what is a hardcore game? It doesn't exist, it is a term only used in this generation that means very little because it has little meaning and is used by people on the internet to make themselves feel cool.

GC was a Great Console, it didn't have loads of games, but the bunch of games that worth the purchase were Awesome, REø+REmake+MGS:TS beat the whole library of non-Nintendo games in the wii and SSBM >>> SSBB

The Wii isn't going to go anywhere. While both Kinect and Move will take away some of Nintendo's market share, I can’t see either the 360 or PS3 bridging a 30 million gap. The Wii will continue to dominate the casual market.

I feel like nobody under 12 should have a PS3 or a Xbox because the way people talk and act on them 2 gaming consoles and they don't have many kids games on them like the Wii do it's a family consoles. Who here actually believes for a minute that gaming can go on still be this big or bigger if Nintendo quits completely and they franchises die with them? That just wouldn't work. Nintendo could have just did 3D and stopped with 3DS, but they added motion sensing, that cool new bark mode feature, and other stuff.

Try Ikaruga, Castle of Shikigami, Contra Rebirth, and Sin and Punishment. Wii gets a bad rep, but I wish there was a way to play cross consoles, cause I bet Hardcore Wii gamers can beat other Hardcore gamers,because it always happens that way when I see it.

Out of curiosity, what did Sega do that was so innovative in terms of the evolution of their consoles? What has made them so different. The way you're arguing the Wii, couldn't you say the same about Sony? Wasn't it Nintendo that shot down disc media and wanted to stick with cartridges forever? Even Microsoft pushed the limits of online gaming and showed that it could be very lucrative on a console. I think MS, Sony, and Nintendo have all innovated and brought the console world to where it is today.

If you talk of shooters being hardcore and are a true fan, forget consoles. I was never a fan of it. From the dead zone on a controller, to the lack of precision and dumbed down speed, it's superior on PC. Go take your Wii-mote or controller and play someone on a mouse and keyboard--you'll get slaughtered.

Having sold 70 million so far is truly impressive and Nintendo did sell a stupid amount of games (on some of their titles) with half the install base of the PS2. However, you're point will be less valid if, as the sales of the Wii increase, there isn't a proportional increase in the sales of their games. There is one thing people fail to realize: the sales of software is NOT directly proportional to the number of consoles on the market. It is not realistic to assume that Mario Kart Wii would have sold 40 million if the Wii had double its current install base.

Consoles sold doesn't mean a better console, tho. The Wii's initial success had more to do with an attractive price point when compared to its competitors and its "kid factor". Either way, they have definitely gained a following and will be around for a long time. Nintendo is here to stay.

I wasn't ever a Sega fan (The only console I own of theirs is the Dreamcast, and I didn't get it until well after it died) but I can now acknowledge what they did for the industry. While it was a failure, they had a CD-based addon on the Genesis well before Sony proposed the same thing for the SNES. So Sony was NOT the first one to use CDs in a console, nor were they first to use it as the primary format on their console (3DO, CD-i). But they were the first to use it successfully. If you think about it, it's no wonder Nintendo turned down their addon - Sega, Phillips, and 3DO all failed with their CDs.

Dreamcast was an important console because it was the first to have online connectivity. And Sega as a whole was important because they were the first major competitor for consoles - Nintendo had already crushed Atari.

Good points. Which is why I compared them for Sef. Was the first motion device on the Wii? No, it was on computers long before and the PS EYE did motion first (on consoles to my knowledge). But it WAS Nintendo that blew it up. They weren't the first, just the first to do it well. Sony was no different. Dreamcast did online, but MS was the first to do it well (again, not including PC). Disc media was definitely first on PCs.

Both no one here, even you can deny that the ratio for softcore and shovelware games is far higher on the Wii. As a result, because of the audience, harcore games sell less. This doesn't mean they don't sell, or that they are crap, or got bad reviews. Its the success of these games in comparison to other games on the Wii, and other platforms...

Understand? The PS3's library is now wider, more varied and diverse as a result of the Move controller. 2nd and third party Wii titles can now be on the PS3. Will they sell? Who knows? Will it be beneficial to the platform? You bet your ass it will, because its in HD, probably have better online, and so on.

I play Modern Warfare 2 a lot. But every once in a while, i get on my other games, such as Fallout 3 and all, cuz i can play that game over and over again lol. Anyways . . all i ever see my friends online play is Modern Warfare 2 though . . the majority of my friends. They play no other games. I find this saddening, as i'm an avid gamer, and i love to play all kinds of games. I've played and beaten a majority of the new games that have been coming out . . it's sad to see the only games my friends play are MW2 . . i'll be getting invites to join parties while playing Uncharted 2 or something wtf. If i get a new game with multiplayer . . i can't even play it with any friends because all of them are playing MW2. As much as it sucks for the companies, it sucks for gamers like me too :/
