Sony Move and Microsoft Kinect Are a Wii All Over Again

4 Years into the Wii’s life and Sony and Microsoft have finally reached that special place that the Wii has capitalized in, called ‘motion control gaming’. Microsoft’s new motion system ‘Kinect’ is probably a step up from what Nintendo introduced to the world 4 years ago, but nothing revolutionary. Sony’s Move on the other hand, is a complete replica of the Wii with...

I think anyone can see that. No offense to that article but it was all kind of common sense. Kinect is something totally different from Wii.... and it will most likely fail for being too restrictive in terms of what kind of games can be played on it. And Move is like a WiiHD+. I don't get if the author was trying to be insightful or what, but like I said... everything he wrote was just common sense.

Chupa-Chupa5081d ago

Appreciate your comment. Although going to E3 made it clear that Sony and Microsoft is really focused on this motion control system, and sort of bringing the less gamers along with it. It is nothing revolutionary. It's just funny to read and hear people hate on the Wii, then BAMM! Wii all over again. 4 years too late you think?

Takoulya5081d ago

Except that Move is getting real hardcore game support. Its precision and accuracy cannot be matched by the Wii, nor Kinect. SOCOM 4 and KZ3 are just examples of great games that are using Move properly. Kinect has no hardcore game support, and Wii's support is minimal. I'm not saying that the Wii doesn't have great games, I'm just saying that the amount of real, core gamers' games are low. I don't expect Nintendo to revolutionize their own finished product either. It would require a complete hardware change. Move is bringing in what the real gamers want and are interested in, and that's the reason I place it above the rest.

Seferoth755081d ago

Takoulya,
It's sad that you actually believe that. Move is not more precise than the Wii. There are no accuracy issues with the Wii remote in FPS. Move is a camera tracking a single sensor, Wii has a camera tracking 2 sensors. Wait... Your whole point about it being more precise is based off Sony using it in its own FPS franchises while Nintendo doesnt have any to use theirs in except Metroid?

So far you are proving me right that the only people interested in Move are completely ignorant of how it and the Wii work and what they offer.

Army_of_Darkness5081d ago

the only reason I hated on the wii was because the graphics were last gen and isn't even HD... the actual motion control part was a good idea to get Lazy gamers a little more active once in a while....

Nathaniel_Drake5081d ago

But these can be used for hardcore gamers, it's actually both now for the PS3, also the 3rd party support is much better on the PS3 so you will get much more games on it using the Move. It's just another addition to the Playstation family that adds more games, and isn't that what gaming consoles are about adding more games?

Anon19745081d ago

The Wii's success has more to do with it's initial price point than the motion control. With Sony and Microsoft duking it out with their high priced systems, Nintendo stepped right in with a cheaper offering and a ready cast of recognizable characters that are proven to sell games.

Don't get me wrong, motion control seemed fresh and probably pushed some people off the fence to try something new, but we'll see with Move and Kinect just what type of appetite gamers really have for motion control.

AWBrawler5081d ago

He obviously never played the conduit, Metroid, or an other shooting game on Wii. And Wii does have a shooter of their own coming: Sin and Punishment 2

Jaces5081d ago

Not true. Wii has no camera, the controller has two image sensors (lights) that are detected by the sensor bars own infrared lights.

The fact that MOVE has an actual camera to track movements already proves that it's capable of more precise gameplay. It's much more than wiiHD. Hope I wasn't too ignorant for you.

n4gno5081d ago

sepherote don't know what he is talking about (just look at ign previews for move), it's not only a wiimote for the best console (with the best library), it's also more sophisticated (more possibilities), more accurate, wireless, with eye toy (kinect father)...

every real gamer can see why it's way more exciting than wii, even if wii is enough to satisfy children and grand mothers (with bowling, etc)

rockleex5081d ago

Sony also restricts the amount of titles using the same basic concepts and premises to force developers to not just release shovelware over and over again.

Read any hands-on preview of PS Move and you'll notice how the precision, accuracy, and lack of lag is ALWAYS mentioned.

And like others have said, we'll finally be able to use an accurate motion controller with HD games once PS Move comes out. >:D

Delive5081d ago

My perspective, I never really hated on the Wii, more like Nintendo's direction. I got a Wii with hopes of this revolutionizing my gaming experience. The motion was interesting at first, but the gaming experience that went along with it did nothing to light my fire. The lack luster tsunami of games meant to entertain the casuals only drove me away after each game I spent money on was sub par to my Gamecube experience. This was Nintendo's strategy, their direction. This is exactly what turn me off.

With the Move and Kinect, your console is not based off the motion control. You still have the same experience with the high quality titles left and right that work with standard control. They just took the Wii and learned from it's mistakes (Which Nintendo also did with the Wii Motion Plus) and made their products excel where the Wii-mote had not. Their approaches are a little different though. MS appears to be targeting the casuals more aggressively than Sony is. I see Kinect as an enhanced produce targeting the same audience as the Wii, while the Move is an enhanced product trying to cater to both the core and casuals. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

4 years too late? I wouldn't say that. It's an evolution in gaming. N came out with something and is making money like crazy on it. Cheaper production cost and quicker output equal massive profit, and the casuals don't seem to mind the shovelware. It would only be smart to try to gain some of the market share in the casual area. These new devices take that and make it better, more accurate and advanced, moving motion controllers forward, while still supporting their core audience that got them where they are now.

Takoulya5080d ago

I know how the Wii works, and how it plays. I had one until I traded it to get a PS3. Games Call of Duty: World at War were imprecise and aggravating after an extended period of playing. You would get cheaply killed because of imprecisions. Also, the Wii would make it so the screen stopped moving if the controller got even just above the pointing radius. Move tracks movements outside the radius, and basically everywhere the sphere is detected. All the Tech Demos of Move prove its superiority. I'm not dissing the Wii, it's great, but Move is technologically more advanced, and much more useful for people who want a real hardcore gaming experience.

Shang-Long5081d ago

its not so much common sense. since not everyone knows about it. but i get what your saying.

to be fair on the subject both are not anything new and just upgrades of a older device. ( wii mote, pseye. ) while people will buy into both products. i don't (and im sure im not the only one) think either will have the effect The wii did.

then again a lot of people believed the wii wouldn't do well and it did. so just like everything else. only time will tell

BannedForNineYears5081d ago

Isn't this all actually the webcam all over again?
Or actually....A camera all over again?
Isn't this technology all over again?
Isn't everything everything all over again?
o.O
-mind explodes-

gamingisnotacrime5081d ago

on HHG site says otherwise, it looks tremendous

Nathaniel_Drake5081d ago

Not Kinect that's a Eyetoy all over again, and even so for the move it seems it can be used in a much better way with better response and better graphics and can be used on games the Wii can't even touch like Heavy Rain or Killzone. Or a new game such as that flashlight horror game, which looks much better.

Imallvol75081d ago

I am dissapointed in MS and Sony for pursuing motion control Spend all that time and money on BS motion control. The Wii has saturated the casual market. I think they are both going to bomb.

Shang-Long5081d ago

agreed. but at least sony is giving a lot of hardcore support.

mrcash5081d ago

I just hope they implement it well. I personally can do without motion controls, as long as they never make it mandatory to play games with the "move" i'll be fine. It's all business, it was only a matter of time before ms and sony followed in nintendos footsteps, here's to hoping that some amazing games come out of it.

Pedobear Rocks5081d ago

working on motion control and video capture in their games since at least 2001 ... you want them to never try and recoup the cost of that R and D?

the more people that see this the better, but unfortunately wii boys are still blind:(:(

Activision team is opening a new game studio in Poland 'Elsewhere Entertainment' to build new AAA IP

Microsoft's Activision subsidiary announced today that it is opening a new game development studio to take advantage of the huge talent pool growing in Poland. It'll be the second Activision studio based in the region, joining Infinity Ward Krakow, although this studio is, in fact, not working on Call of Duty.

Microsoft's quest for short-term $$$ is doing long-term damage to Windows, Surface, Xbox, and beyond

Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's plans to increase every department's margins.

"The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. At least for now, they're potentially obvious games you'd most likely expect. And yes, while it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins. "

Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware.

Xeofate5d ago

"Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware."

It's for the best.

Quit stringing along xbox fans and screwing over PlayStation owners.

crazyCoconuts5d ago

Take good care of those Xboxes if you have 'em ...

outsider16245d ago

An Xbox game on a Playstation. Never in my years of gaming did i ever thought this was gonna happen.

jznrpg5d ago

It is dying anyway so doesn’t make much of a difference

VersusDMC5d ago

No way can they get rid of the hardware as probably 90% of game pass subscribers are hardware users.

Highly doubtful those users will move to PC or Cloud to subscribe there and the competition (Sony and Nin) will never have gamepass on their system.

If they want to keep the current subscribers, they need to keep releasing new hardware.

PSPSA4d ago

I'm not convinced, why then announce that they're actually working on the next-generation Xbox with “the largest technical leap”, and also looking into handhelds now?

Rols4d ago

Not like MS don’t drop things a hot potato if it is not performing. Look at MS history to see products or platforms discontinued. Xbox is not a charity for MS, it needs to make money and the ABK was the last roll of the dice for Xbox.

purple1014d ago

Xbox hardware team members have been incorporated into surface team

This perhaps shows they are not expecting big things from Xbox as a separate entity

Abear214d ago

Seems like they are planning to win next gen. All the acquisitions were this generation and nobody except Xbox fans expect games from the acquisitions any time soon.

I’m sure Microsoft can afford to lose money on the short term, pretty sure they do risk assessment when acquiring many companies and spending billions, they’ll be fine lol.

i think it will kill off the xbox brand. windows will be fine.

but there is and would be a chance that xbox might be killed off in the future. if they fail to make the money they put in. imo.

S2Killinit5d ago

They wont kill it, but they will go fully PC while keeping xbox as a brand, and go multiplatform for the most part. They will also work tirelessly to diminish console gaming’s importance.

PRIMORDUS5d ago

It would be best if Xbox goes the way of Sega, just make and publish games. I know I myself will not support them at all with buying games from them, you all can. 🙃

ChasterMies5d ago

The Xbox brand will live for the games. I don’t expect Microsoft to entirely drop out of gaming hardware. They make Surface tablets and laptops. They’ll make Xbox branded hardware for those that want it.

shadowT5d ago

"Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation"

Forza and Starfield next?

Skuletor5d ago

Starfield would be no surprise and there's the rumor that it will come to Playstation after the Shattered Space DLC, Forza (along with Halo and Gears of War) I find less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually end up on PlayStation too, especially if Xbox give up on hardware and go the Sega route.

shinoff21835d ago

Not to worried about forza. I'd rather see others like what inxile and obsidian are working on. Starfield sounds like it needs more time in the oven so let it cook first imo. If starfield and it's a small if does release on ps it'll be in the fall around the time for dlc or right at the dlc and come packaged with it.

-Foxtrot5d ago

In the words of Phil Spencer when he was talking about Nintendo last year

“It's just taking a long time for Microsoft to see that their future exists off of their own hardware"

S2Killinit5d ago

Yup. MS are a cancer to console gaming.

Aloymetal5d ago

100%!!
I wonder what happened to that dude that was always here posting those court articles with cartoons about MS spending all those billions in studios. He suddenly disappeared, I guess he doesn't like bad news when the green brand is in trouble. No new articles from him as of late...

PRIMORDUS5d ago

Yup, and it's only going to keep spreading.

Outside_ofthe_Box5d ago

Phil Spencer's words always comes back to bite him lol

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE7d ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware7307d ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Skuletor7d ago

Just merge them all into a single studio, have it churn out a single Call of Duty every year and call it a day, lol.

Barlos7d ago

Don't be scared, you'll be fine.

Skuletor7d ago

It's exputer, fine is one word I would not associate with them.

Profchaos7d ago

I think it's becoming clear based on matt bootys comments there's no future for any IP that can't sell above 10 million within the launch window. But is also a small game that gives them prestige

/S it's beyond a joke right now
