Super Smash Bros. Brawl No. 1 at Amazon

Pre-sales for Nintendo Co.’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl soared on Wed. upon availability at online retailer Amazon.com.

The Wii action brawler, to be released on Dec. 3, shot to the No. 1 ranking from a previous position of No. 83 and held a 8,200 percent increase in sales.

Previous installments include Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 and Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo GameCube.

The latest edition will feature new characters, including Pit from Kid Icarus, Wario, and Zero Suit Samus.

Nintendo this week posted record earnings in the first quarter on strong sales for the Wii and the Nintendo DS handheld.

Additionally, the company increased sales estimates to 16.5 million Wii units and 26 million DS units this business year.
