I wonder when they'll announce these and the pricing for them.

MightyMark4275477d ago

As always, expect it to be expensive!

DJexs5477d ago

doesn't matter what it is there will always be a catch

HolyOrangeCows5477d ago

"Microsoft is doing what they’re good at and forcing consumers to buy an Official Hard Drive"

Shocker.

soxfan20055477d ago (Edited 5477d ago )

It's 250GB!!!

Why would you need to replace it??

You can fully install over 30 games and still have plenty of space left over.

MightyMark4275477d ago

Well, we're going into the HD era. With movies, and games going digital distribution, 250 won't be enough. Expect new hard drive soon

The Great Melon5477d ago (Edited 5477d ago )

The numerous multi disk games laugh at you.

BubbleSystemSuck5477d ago

ten years ago... how much was "too much"... and now how much is normal?

Theonik5477d ago

I have used 1Tb on my PC. It is easy to fill 250Gb if you have HD movies. But i guess with the slim having N wi-fi you could easily stream HD video.

gamingisnotacrime5477d ago

to forget about hard drive space and save whatever i want without a second thought for a very long time (i expect a lot of digital content with the PSN+)

yep, easy and cheap on the good old PS3

Arnon5477d ago (Edited 5477d ago )

I think people fail to accept the fact that a single disc for a 360 game can only be a maximum of 7.5 GB or so. You're not going to run out of room with a 250 GB HDD on the 360, unless you're actually trying to. I still have an old 20 GB HDD with 20 arcade games (ranging from small to very large) as well as demos and videos, and I still have 5 gigs left.

Again, the only reason you would fill up a 250 GB HDD on the 360 is if you're trying to.

Consoldtobots5477d ago

@soxfan my 500GB PS3 says hi. Soon upgrading to 1TB. Kinda sucks that MS feels they need so much control over the hardware that you will NEVER be current with the market and always playing catchup to what the competition has. It's kinda like buying from one of those catalogs from finger hut where the 360 still costs you $400 when you can go to best buy and get it at a much cheaper price and don't have to wait for shipping.

5477d ago
Consoldtobots5477d ago

lol this is why I usually ignore 360 articles, full of butthurt fanboys who disagree for no reason. Seems kinda odd that they want to go the digital distribution model and aren't laying the infrastructure in place by selling the biggest HDDs possible at the time. Then again with MS a 500GB HDD will run you about as much as an arcade 360 and a 1TB about as much as premium 360. Go ahead and disagree with that.

SantanaClaus895477d ago

I had a 250GB in my PS3 but recently had to upgrade to a 640GB because I ran out of space.

Speedy1805477d ago

Most Computers dont even come standard with anything less then 500 Gigs.

HammockGames5477d ago

I install all my games to the HDD to save on wear and tear on the disk drive, prevent disk scratching, and to reduce overheating and fan noise.

It's actually pretty easy to to fill up a HDD if you do this.

And I've nearly filled up 350 GB on my PS3 (500 GB HDD at the present - might need 1 TB before it's over).

The option of 500GB plus should be available at a reasonable cost for both systems, IMHO.

BISHOP-BRASIL5477d ago

I have to agree with soxfan for once (yup, I feel dirty), I have 160GB on PS3 and never made it to fill it up. And can't you use a external USB drive on 360? I mean, isn't this space supposed to be used gaming? That's at least how I use space on PS3... Serious question about the USB external drive trough, I have no idea, for movies and general media, I can see why you wouldn't be able to.

And to all of you who filled over 500GB of HD video on whatever machine you had. That's a lot of porn! ;)

ReservoirDog3165477d ago

Yeah, I thought I was invincible when I got my 250GB in my PS3. I burnt through about 100GB from that within a year.

It's still a lot of room, God you can't deny that. But you'll run out sooner or later.

AuToFiRE5477d ago

I have over 4.5TB in my computer, trust me, it is easy to fill 250gigs with pictures alone, let alone games, HD movies, and music, i expect to have it completely filled in the next month

No Way5476d ago

There is a bit of difference.. The ps3 is mandatory game installs, most anyway. The x360 isn't. Who cares about multiple disks? I don't even know very many people that use the install feature.

The Lazy One5476d ago

You can stream HD video from any PC on your network to your 360 through the network. Why would you ever run out of 250 gb?

BWS19825476d ago (Edited 5476d ago )

of movies on my PS3's harddrive, along with about 20 gigs of music and several gigs of pics and a ton of artwork. On top of that, I have a couple dozen demos (even of games I own so I can showcase them to people without switching out discs) and several dozen PSN games, PS3 downloads, PSOne classics and a ton of trailers. I've been selectively and strategically forced to delete demos or movies for about 8 months or so now if I play new games or get new demos.

We all use the space differently, though...but people need to stop assuming it's just for games. An HD console can become a media hub powerhouse, why not use it?

For MANY of us, 250 gigs is like a flamethrower and a pile of leaves: you burn right through it.

Edit: @ lazy one, personally, I take consoles with me sometimes to others houses to transport media or gaming sessions, some of us can't rely on the static setup of a streaming arrangement.

Arnon5476d ago

Lol @ the people comparing the size of their PC's HDD to a 360's HDD as if they somehow have any relevance.

Blah blah blah

The catch is we already knew this, and with a 250 gig HD why would anyone need to replace it anytime soon.

Additionally, it's not like 360 owners have had an option taken away that they previously had.

This article is pointless.

@Consoldtobots (above) quit your smack talking, you'd need 1 TB if you keep having to do those mandatory installs...lol

Even still, you would only be buying a 1TB drive for your PS3 simple to show some form of sick virtual chest pounding. Perhaps you need to do things like this as self therapy.

Adva5477d ago

Oh how uninformed you truly are. Not all games require installation. Mandatory installs average at 1GB.

AuToFiRE5477d ago

i have about 50 ps3 games, nowhere near all of them have installs, most of the installs are within the first 2 years, everything else runs beautifully without an install

Picture to prove PS3 owners do buy games with several size comparisons to the stack of games

WetN00dle695477d ago (Edited 5477d ago )

Oh yes the will be expensive no doubt about it!
I mean come on is M$ it will be a miracle if they sell these HDD's at a reasonable price. By the way got my slim today so far so good and it seems like it wont burn my house down YET at least. It has a cool but insignificant little feature to it, every time you power on or press the eject button you can hear a chime.

ReBurn5477d ago

I doubt I would ever need more than 250GB. But it would suck to have to pay for a proprietary one. Microsoft should have just done the right thing and made that enclosure so that you could easily swap the HDD with one of your own. I'd much rather have that 250GB HDD in my laptop and my laptop's 120GB HDD in the 360.

HaVoK3085477d ago

This is news? Its MS and who doesnt know they use propriety hard drives? Noob stuff.

Trroy5477d ago

Wow. I guess it was too easy to get by the old proprietary system. Now you have to break open the drive -- which of course would probably irrevocably damage it outside a particle vacuum.

Report suggests the UK is a console nation

Bit-Tech: Perhaps the biggest surprise was that the tide of console gamers is a cultural phenomenon which does not appear to cross every border. According to NPD's research, while the UK has the highest incidence of console usage out of all the markets analysed Germany boasts the biggest number of PC gamers.

France, meanwhile, is clinging on to dedicated hand-held consoles like the Nintendo 3DS and Sony PlayStation Portable at a time when NPD's analysis shows that gamers in most other nations have ditched theirs in favour of getting their portable gaming fixes on smartphones and tablets.

"when NPD's analysis shows that gamers in most other nations have ditched theirs in favour of getting their portable gaming fixes on smartphones and tablets."

you mean like japan, europe or the US where the 3ds is breaking records?

People are ditching the 3DS so fast in the US, 3ds sales have doubled over ds first year sales and the year isnt even over.

No source, no truth

who approved this garbage?

Knight_Cid4863d ago

you shouldnt be proud to approve slander

but 250 million global online PC Gamers say other wise.

Everyone with a Gaming PC can play Wii Games so does that mean the world is a Wii Nation?

I think people just enjoy Games and it really doesn't matter the platform.

Console Nation, PC Universe, iPhone Realm, doesn't matter just enjoy your Games.

StayStatic4863d ago (Edited 4863d ago )

Considering most PC Gamers will own 1 or more consoles , declaring the UK as a "console nation" is complete and utter bollox.

kevnb4863d ago (Edited 4863d ago )

owning a console and playing the occasional game once in a blue moon doesnt make you a console gamer. Just like owning a pc and maybe playing some random flash game doesnt make you a pc gamer. Alot of pc gamers bought ps3s, its a blu-ray player and media hub that plays games.

guitar_nerd_234863d ago

I'm from the UK and game on nearly every platform I can think of.

But yes in general I'm more thumbs than fingers when It comes to my games.

Paul Christoforo to Write a Book Based on the Ocean Marketing Debacle

Remember in December of last year when Paul Christoforo became the pariah of the internet? Ocean Marketing was at the center of a scandal that took the internet by storm after Christoforo exchanged rude, angry emails with a customer of Avenge Controllers, for whom Christoforo was providing customer service. I recently had the chance to speak with Paul about the whole ordeal and what his life has been like since.

That is a very nice looking xbox 360.

gamingdroid4876d ago

That does look sick and the sound is even more awesome. Too bad the darn Xbox 360 is so expensive still.

LX-General-Kaos4876d ago

When the Wii U drops the xbox prices will take a serious nose dive. Hopefully they still have that particular one floating around retail.
