Yesterday, several European regions listed cross-game chat as an upcoming feature for the incoming PlayStation Plus service, which will cost $50 for a year subscription. This was a moment of great excitement for PS3 owners, but Sony was quick to remove the feature and deny it'll be part of the cross-game chat, though they haven't outright denied if it would come in firmware 3.40, yet.
Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki and CFO Lin Tao talked about the state of the PlayStation business and the strategy and targets going forward, including how they're responding to the tariffs.
Sony announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2024, and things are certainly looking up, despite a decline in PS5 sales.
If their profits fall next quarter, we'll probably see more price hikes. I can't imagine having to pay £20 a month for PlayStation Plus.
Decline in hardware sales.
Behind on lifetime sales and decline in first party sales.
Third party content and PSN came through to save the day.
Things will improve starting with the next Ghost game.
Hopefully a steady flow of first party content by end of '25
PlayStation 5 has shipped 77.8 million units worldwide, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2025.
very nice.
in almost 5 years too.
some big hitters are yet to come
THANK YOU! This has been ridiculously confusing to figure out.
amazing that people can still say that reg. PSN is just as good as LIVE, when PSN+ is what you have to buy in order to get SOME of the features of LIVE
The only reason I could think of when it comes to Sony not bringing up cross game chat is either because its either coming as a pleasant surprise or its not coming at all. Ive cried out to Sony on their PS blog personally and have always got the third degree when I asked if it was coming since firmware 2.40. They have not once said it was ever coming. It is probably the most hyped up feature to receive for the system, yet Sony brushes it off as something that is not even relevant. Which it isn't, and is why ,personally, I dont see it coming.
People will continue to be confused if they keep calling it PSN+ (not the author) instead of PS+, PSN is the online service that will continue to improve with online features. PlayStation + is a service the is design to improve the quailty of life of the PSN. PS+ is and additional and optional service, sort of like Netflix. If you dont purchase it, it will not effect your PSN experience.
What confuses me is how they were saying that PSN+ members can cross game chat with people who don't have PSN+, and the fact that it was announced in the firmware update (though taken down) and not as a feature in PSN+. So does this mean cross game chat will be for everyone for free?
I wish Sony would just confirm the cross game chat thing already and put more details on if it will be just one on one or group chat over games.
