Alpha Protocol Review - VideoGamer

VG:

On paper, Alpha Protocol sounds incredibly alluring, combining the best elements of the role-playing and action genres with a refreshing concept. In executing that concept, however, the game falls apart at the seams. Ignoring the dialogue system, Obsidian's latest plays like a substandard third-person shooter. Despite its myriad of shortcomings there's a moderate amount of fun to be had with Alpha Protocol. It's a game that's more enjoyable than it probably should be, a game that's better than the sum of its parts. There's a lot of potential hiding under the flawed shell, and although Obsidian has failed to coax it out this time around, I hope somebody does the concept justice in the future.

Had a feeling this game was going to be average at best.

tinybigman5486d ago

range from a 5 to high 8s. i'll wait to see the overall feeling from all sites.

nycredude5486d ago

This is starting to worry me. I have this preordered and paid off. I might have to change it. What do you guy think? prince of Persia or Lost Planet 2? Not much coming out in the next two months.

BeaArthur5486d ago

If those are your options go back and play something you missed out on earlier this year or last year.

user94220775486d ago

Prince of Persia for an excellent single player and LP2 for multiplayer.

tinybigman5486d ago

in like 4 days. the game seems to easy.

Montrealien5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

Don't let the Debbie downers get to you nycdude. It is a good game and you will be better off getting this other then Prince of persia or Lost planet 2. and now that your expectations have been lowered by a bunch of people that have not even played it, you will most likely be surprised by Alpha protocol.

you look at Obsidians back catalogue and its the same old story with their other games, KOTR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, both technically bad but have potential, not much different here but saying that im gonna get it im sure it will be enjoyable.

Montrealien5486d ago

it is a good game, really. I am glad they took a gamble and tried this out, it seems like a very good gaming experience.

One of the few 7th gen game that I'll full heartedly support for a remake.
Its a very unique RPG and deserves its faults fixed the 2nd time.

TheNamelessOne341d ago

I would be so for this. Alpha Protocol is the definition of a diamond in the rough. Before being acquired by Microsoft, Obsidian presented their ideas for a sequel, multiple times, but were always shot down. Even something simple like a remaster is very unlikely.

ZeekQuattro341d ago

Still have a physical copy for my PS3. Clunky at times but I had a lot of fun with it back in the day.

TheColbertinator341d ago

Had some issues but that game was brilliant.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend467d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long467d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons467d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor467d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens52467d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey602467d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor467d ago

I have quite a few of these. Timed licenses suck.

Terry_B467d ago (Edited 467d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.
