Ya I was sad to see Mono go to Nintendo being a Sony only buyer. I was one of the few who actually loved all the Xenosaga games. 3 was epic as hell all where great to me.

Nintendo got a good rpg dev imo this game looks great

rockleex5513d ago

Mainly because I haven't played III.

But Episode II's story about Jr and Albedo was just so awesome. Especially when the angels came down for Albedo.

And Episode II's soundtrack was so epic! The beats, the rhythm, everything was just so dramatic.

Reibooi5513d ago

It's a shame. The game looks epic enough but graphically it's a mess. The game doesn't even come close to the graphical prowess Monolith was able to achieve in Xenosaga Episode III on PS2. Which is quite sad in my opinion because that game was beautiful but this one isn't(big blocky hands and character models are the main problem here the environments are either hit or miss)

The story from what little I have seen and heard sounds decent. The only thing I don't get is why everyone seems to think this is a Xenosaga/gears sequel. If I remember correctly Monolith said it has nothing to do with that franchise in any way shape or form. The name change came because Nintendo thought it would draw in more people. Which it certainly has. The game has been MUCH more talked about since it's named was changed to Xenoblade. But again Monolith said it's unrelated in anyway to the previous Xeno games(unless they have since retracted that comment which I haven't seen)

Chubear5513d ago (Edited 5513d ago )

holy crap. That's the best game I've seen on the Wii to date. Probably the best JRPG I've gen this gen on any console. FF fans may hate me, and I'm not a JRPG gamer but that looks like a better gaming experience than FF13 to me.

That's a for real gamer's game and they do sweet things with scale considering what they're working on with the wii.

Come on now, if this game doesn't sell as much as or better than wii party games like Boom Blox, there's something really wrong here.

Game looks impressive.

fallingdove5513d ago

@ Reibooi

You're right, the game is a graphical mess. I would expect this from a DS game but from the wii? the textures, the animations, the models are all some of the worst I have seen this generation. And the whole 'vision' thing - being able to see what the enemy is going to do before they do it - is pretty lame. I would have expected more from the creator of Xenogears (One of my all time favorite games).

But its not like there aren't redeeming qualities either - the scale is neat, the music is great and the story sounds pretty cool.

fallingdove5513d ago

@ chubear

Interesting comment.

You are not a JRPG gamer but you observe that this is a better experience than FF13? Not only that but you claim that its the best JRPG this generation on any console.

Seems a little silly. Almost like if I were to make a statement as a non-sports game player that NBA Jam for the Wii is the most realistic basketball sim on the market.

And out of curiousity (I am still trying to understand what looks so great about this game) how does the game look so impressive?

The flat fruit maybe, or the overly simplistic battle system, or possibly its the generic enemies they have shown so far?

Chubear5513d ago (Edited 5513d ago )

If you weren't a sports fan or sports gaming fan and said NBA jam was more "realistic" than you'd be looked at as a moron. You can have your opinion but people likely won't pay you attention HOWEVER...

if you said you weren't a sports fan but you find NBA jam more entertaining than 2k10 or it looks more "fun" than NBAlive10 then it's all good cause they'll likely be sports gamers than agree with you but even if they don't they'll still understand where you're coming from with the fun aspect.

I've been gaming for a long time. I've seen many JRPGs and though I don't play them, I can appreciate them. The last JRPG that made me want to try it was FF10 and that was mainly from the fans talking on the forum and the game didn't unfortunately change the way I see JRPGs

Another JRPG that looked interesting to me this gen was Lost Oddesy and even the demo of Eternal Sonata was interesting to me but they didn't feel or look like they were trying to push current gen JRPG should be cause there are a lot of JRPG from last gen and even 10yrs ago that look more interesting

but THIS game actually makes me feel like "I" would like to play it. If it can do that for someone who doesn't traditionally find JRPGs appealing then it must be doing something others weren't right?

.. and no, those enemy designs are not "generic". I've seen more vids on GT and the art design and Xter modeling look better than what I've seen from many JRPGs this gen and I'm not talking about graphical fidelity (which the game still looks great) but just over all design and creativeness. So many JRPGs jsut have some really stupid over the top ridiculous looking enemy & boss designs and I don't get that feeling with this game.

Sorry I wrote an essay but it seemed you where trying to dogg on me cause I felt this JRPG looks better than any JRPG I've seen this gen, which is my opinion obviously.

Reibooi5513d ago (Edited 5513d ago )

@fallingdove

For sure. There is great things about the game. While we don't know that much about the story it seems like one that could be great. The soundtrack from what I have heard so far is absolutely amazing(not quite as good as what I heard from Yuki Kajiura in Xenosaga II and III but granted I have not heard the whole thing yet). At face value everything the game has with the exception of graphics and some of the game play elements looks to be pretty high end and as long as they stay that way all the way through it will surely be a great game.

As for Chubear.

This is FAR from the best the Wii has. My personal preference for best game on the Wii is OboroMuramasa. Yes it has it's issues but it's a incredibly beautiful game with 2 very good story lines.

As far as I'm concerned FFXIII was a great game and will probably out do Xenoblade but that isn't even a fair comparison as FFXIII had HD power behind it in both looks and technical power. The scale FFXIII has could not have been done on Wii.

And as for best JRPG this gen I would give that title to Valkryia Chronicles. That game had a incredible story, was stunningly beautiful and had game play like no other game before it. That to me means best JRPG although I'm sure there are plenty who will disagree with me over that.

How this game makes you personally want to play it over any other JRPG makes me very confused. As Fallingdove mentioned at face value by simply looking at a video the game looks mediocre. The combat isn't very impressive and if you agree or not the enemies are very generic. How you can have a opinion on that when you say you haven't played many JRPG's is beyond me but they are indeed generic.

Something that makes you wanna play it should look impressive and sorry to say this doesn't. Final Fantasy XIII's original videos that showed insanely fast paced combat would be something that goes wow I wanna try that but not what we have seen here. Don't get me wrong. I still wanna play Xenoblade but it's only because it's a Monolith game. Most of the stuff the game has shown so far is a bit underwhelming with the exception of the concept and soundtrack.

A game on the wii that doesn't look like a gamecube game!!! Kick a$$!

Millah5513d ago

I'm happy to see this on the Wii actually, because Monolith doesn't have to compromise the type of game they want to make by making it on the Wii. Since it costs significantly less to develop on Wii, its much less of a risk, therefore they allow the developer a little more freedom to create the game they want.

And knowing this is a Takahashi game, I want him to have all the creative freedom possible. Yasunori Mitsuda said he read the script and story for the game, and he said its the grand and epic type of story you'd come to expect from Takahashi. I'm so hyped for this game (in case you couldn't tell I'm a Xeno fan by my avatar).

Valay5513d ago

Now I can go back to being hyped for the game since the Famitsu score is fake.

Godmars2905513d ago

But why isn't this on the 360/PS3? Why hasn't there been a JRPG on those consoles that's tired to do what this one has done on the Wii?

Valay5513d ago

This is published by Nintendo and Nintendo pretty much owns Monolith Soft. So in that sense, that's why you won't see this on the PS3/360.

UnSelf5513d ago

he doesnt mean that in the literal sense

EvilTwin5513d ago

Yep. Nintendo apparently owns an 80% stake of Monolith Soft.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

----------------------------- ---------------

Something else to consider why you don't exactly see many games of this TYPE on PS3/360 -- cost.

"It's no secret that good JRPGs have been somewhat rare on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and comments from Final Fantasy developer Square Enix seem to shed light on why -- it simply costs too much. Square Enix, for all its power and influence, has touched multiple times upon the difficulty of crafted an HD Final Fantasy. To create an eighty-hour RPG with all the trappings we've come to expect -- huge cities, bustling towns, world maps and endless reams of content -- requires astronomical costs and inconvenient amounts of time."

The company is Monolith who makes this game Nintendo.

As per Wikipedia: Monolith Soft, Incorporated or MLSI (株式会社モノリスソフト Kabushiki-Gaisha Monorisu Sofuto?) is a Japanese entertainment company in Japan that has created video games for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Wii, Nintendo DS and cell phones. The company was founded in 1999 by producer Hirohide Sugiura after he left Square Co. and accepted an investment from Namco.[1] As of May 6, 2007, Nintendo owns controlling interest in the company after Namco Bandai sold 80% of its 96% stake in Monolith Soft to Nintendo. This went into effect May 1, 2007.[2] It is now a first-party developer for Nintendo.
Monolith Soft is usually associated with the Xenosaga series, a series of role-playing games on PlayStation 2. Some of MLSI's staff are former employees of Square Co., who transferred to the new company after the creation of Chrono Cross. They were previously involved with the creation of Xenogears, from which the Xenosaga series is derived.

Hence why Xenoblade is on the Wii trust me I think this game would look great in HD but I cannot wait for it.

Godmars2905513d ago (Edited 5513d ago )

Was talking more in the way of effort than this actual game.

That Namco pretty much let Monolith go after Xenosaga just speaks bad of Namco. Much like most of their efforts this gen.

Meryl5513d ago (Edited 5513d ago )

WKC says hi^^ Sorry but WKC was good it was 8.4/10 for me, it was massive it had towns, massive areas, massive bosses, so it's not like games like this can't be achieved on PS3, all they have to do is sacrifice graphics. It's just dev's(by dev's i mean SE lol) are too lazy at the moment and want easy cash.
XeneoBlade looks even better than WKC(on scale and story) AND IT LOOKS DARK AND EPIC I am really hyped!!!

Ravage275513d ago (Edited 5513d ago )

Seeing how the budget of FF13 could easily be spread out to fund the development of at least 5 WKC-quality JRPGs, SE should really just stfu and start examining what went wrong.

WKC has adequately pleasant graphics imho. There are obviously room for improvement but they have to work with the constraints of a limited budget and the fact that the JRPG is turning into niche genre doesn't help one bit.

At least the environment are richly detailed and sharp, with a brilliant art style. It is genuinely pretty to look at, unlike say SO4.

On topic, i'm definitely jealous that we are not getting this game. Oh well...Persona 5 will make up for it :p

SpoonyRedMage5513d ago

Costs my good man, this is actually a paradox being only capable on the Wii.

The only JRPG Dev who could even attempt to make something as big scaled as Xenoblade would be Square Enix and considering FFXIII cost something like $60 mil(not sure) I'd dread to think how much it would cost them, they'd probably never make their money back.

It's also why the game has pretty low res textures, they can get away with it most of the time with the far back camera and rand scale and to have everything high res would cost a bomb.

The Great Melon5513d ago

Ahhh, much better. I am liking the scale everything in this game.

Switch Port When?: 45 Games We Want to See on Nintendo's Sometimes Portable Console

This month marks the second anniversary of the Nintendo Switch. Ever since the console's reveal in early 2017, Nintendo's unique home and portable device has captivated millions. Since 2017, the Switch has seen evermore titles released for it, from both large studios to countless indie developers, thanks to Nintendo's "Nindies" push. The Switch quickly became so popular that any new promising game that gets announced without a Switch port immediately causes people to ask when the Switch version is coming.

Tigerblud2281d ago

I'll add Trails of Cold Steel and Danganronpa series.

flaming_scorpion2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

There’s actually rumors that Danganronpa 1+2 may be coming to Switch. That’d be hella dope

Neonridr2280d ago

because if Nintendo fans want any games they are port begging. If Sony fans want games like Bayonetta, it's common sense.
