IGN: Medal of Honor Impressions

IGN writes: "Setting a game in the theatre of modern war may not be particularly novel anymore, but for EA's long-running Medal of Honor franchise it's a first. Since the glory days of the original and Allied Assault the franchise has branched out from consoles to PCs to handheld systems. As with any brand, excessive iteration leads to exhaustion . Eventually the quality suffers, consumers lose interest, and the name is quietly packed up and sealed away in the vast halls of retired intellectual properties. hope this game does well, but nothing in that preview got me excited. sounded just like a preview for CoD, or any other military FPS.

I with you wollie. It sound like it could be COD: EA. I know they sell well, but I'm tired of Modern Warfare FPS. They've already overstayed their welcome within one console generation. Keep COD, Battlefield, and MoH no more.

EA is just trying to capitalize on the CoD Fad. This game's got generic CoD wannabe written all over it, nothing about that is a good thing.

from the articles and trailers it sounds like this game is trying to do what COD didn't do like have a good story and authenticity with real human soldiers instead of super human soldiers... this sound better than COD in everyway already and not generic at all and remember MOH did WW2 before COD did so this is justified!

Yeah, that would explain why the over priced map pack for MW2 broke all the records and sold more DLC than any other game before it... Yup, MW2 is truly dead.

DICE doing the multiplayer, sold.

I just hope they do some cool stuff with the story, like religious issues, such as the fact if you are invited to a village the enemy won't shoot as you are their guests. Something more complicated than 'shoot at those guys they have different hats' which has been so typical of MoH.

I'm really excited for this new MOH, unlike the MWs it is taking a realistic, somewhat historical accuracy to it. None of that tom clancy hollywood production that was Modern Warfare 1 and 2. So coming from a military history stand point I'm definately looking forward to it.

no i haven't but since you mention it I'll look into it. Yeah I've always enjoyed the war movies like band of brothers, jarhead, and blackhawk down. What i hate are The Patriots and Pearl Harbors of the genre. Just like with video games, these hollywood productions that take away from the history and the I guess educational value they can offer.

So don't try to pretend that MOH has no experience in the shooter genre. They have more than plenty. Not to mention DICE taking care of the multiplayer. I for one really look forward to the games release.

Although the majority of the team behind Allied Assualt, arguably the best in the MoH series went on to form IW...

even so i'm still looking forward to this game. looks like they're finally giving the franchise the kick it needs.

and honestly, we haven't had many good modern shooters, at least not many that play well so i have no problems with this being set in the modern era.

Multiple graphic engines being used means different levels of detail in SP and MP...

"Medal of Honor's single-player campaign will use a heavily-modified version of Unreal Engine 3 and its multiplayer will use the Frostbite engine."

This is dumb, dumb, dumb. For starters, modified UE3 or not, the game looks pretty good. With MP being done by DICE, this is most likely the reason Frostbite needed to be used, and with mo-cap and assets being done on UE3, they couldn't completely swap to Frostbite.

Basically, we'll be getting a beautifully epic SP game, with a tacked on, laggy, crashing, MP mode... courtesy of DICE/EA.

For those who don't know, Bad Company 2 has some of the worst lag and connection issues seen in a multiplayer game.

Multiplayer is where it's at, and since DICE is doing the multiplayer, MoH > MW2
