Should Gears of War 3 Wait Until The Next Generation?

In many ways the Gears of War series is quite unique to the console-shooter genre. Slower paced gameplay, loads of gore, and characters that look like they could rip a tank in half – it really sets Gears apart from the rest of the crowd. In a generation where games are trying to look as realistic as possible, it's kind of refreshing to see Marcus and Dom chainsaw their way through an entire race. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure what's left to look forward to in Gears of War 3. After all, Gears 2 was really more of the same, only with some better graphics and a few revamped weapons. Would it be better to wait for the next generation of consoles so they could really wow their audience?

why because, with the more powerful hardware and memory space the battles can actually be epic in scale instead of the 5 or so enemies coming after you, followed up with some big giant boss battles. if they do that then maybe i'll actually like it instead of having to force myself to play it

The first Gears' campaign was great, but the second one I felt, was a little bloated. Anyway, I hope they bring Gears 3 this Fall. The online of this franchise is my favorite. I'll dib and dab a little with other games' offerings, but I always come back to Gears...

Whatever it takes for the multiplayer to be on dedicated servers. For christ sakes, my friends and I tried Gears 2 online AGAIN last night. My last achievement was 08/2009, so I was hoping 8 months later, the experience would have improved. Nope, still lagged and was terrible. Gears 1 was a masterpiece. They need to go back to their routes and only change PvP and run it on dedicated servers. Please Cliffy, Please.

If it's true for Gears then it's definately true for Uncharted 2 and God of War 3.

Forget the fan blog sites like this one who are stuck in the usual fankid smear mode logic...

The co-op campaign was simply priceless..the last level was an F-ing blast..Horde mode was simply brilliant and addicting as crack..I didn't even care about online..Epic gets no love for the fun people had playing the online modes against BOTS..We put hours and hours into Gears 2 and loved every second..I laughed when I saw all the detractors with agendas try to unsucsessfully bash it

Bottomline:

If Cliffy B announces Gear of War 3 on Monday and they release it 1st quarter 2011..E3 is going to be a frenzy...and be the early favorite for the top selling exclusive of 2011

First of all..I only speak the 100% truth..this was the #1 non-stop argument from the Gears haters when it dropped and it showed back up in this fan blog again.

some will say wait but i say no. If they wait then the game would likely get panned as being a gears 2.5 on a next gen console if it was one of the first to launch with it.

It always happens with the launch games. Typically they are ones that got held back from release on the previous system to build up a library to launch a new gen system with. When that happens, it is generally the consensus that the game was originally for the previous system but just got some flashy update and is NOT an official "next gen" game.

Plus, if they held off then you wouldnt know if the 360 was actually capable of more than what the first two games achieved. I really believe that it is by the end of the consoles run that devs finally are able to ring every last drop of performance/quality out of a system. Not saying Gears 3 would mark the end of the 360 but I am expecting more out of that game and some UE4 (3.5) tricks to really show it off.

That and i really want to not have to wait (ok..I should have said that last part first).

Gears was meant to be 3 parts and it was meant to be on the 360. I think they need to finish off the series. Then when the next gen comes around start a new GoW series. If they start a New GoW series on the next gen they wont have any limits left over from this gen. They can have an all new story, combat, MP, Co Op the works all made for the next gen hardware. Much like GoW was made for this gen.

But, once again, It clear what the agenda of the article is in the first place. I simply pointed out that using the 'Gears 2 is the same a Gear 1 argument' was common practice by the haters on N4G.com and other sites.

But, boy did they change their tune..when two of the highest profile games for the PS3 were released and the same arguments were presented against those games.

I definately wasn't talking about every PS3 owner..that would simply be silly..but was just talking about the prevelant criticisms at the time..

But, whether you 'need' another Gears game is on you..don't play it..there's enough Gears' fans who will and won't complain..Just like when Naughty dog blesses the world with 3rd installment of Uncharted..we will see how many complaints are voiced from the Uncharted fans..

I think if they wait for a next generation, the development time would be way too long. Plus they can just ramp up their engine for this gen.

Unless the next Microsoft console is coming out by next year, I think Epic should just go for it, focus more on the gameplay mechanics as opposed to visuals. Besides, with games like SC:C and Alan Wake coming out, the 360 can still put up pretty sweet visuals.

Perhaps AW but Conviction doesnt look impressive at all. I just watched a promo on youtube, I wasnt expecting Conviction look that bad. Hope the gameplay is better.

Regarding Gears, the new one will depend on UE3 improvements. Gears was the showcase for UE3 tech, the second didnt show substantial improvements. I dont think EPIC will put the third w/o a proper engine update. Lets see.

I say yes. I can wait. I want to see Gears 3 running on the Unreal 4 Engine. You know how sick that would look. It would be with a doubt truly insane. Any ways theres plenty of good 360 games currently coming. Theres no reason to lay Gears 3 right now. Alan Wake, Halo Reach and fable 3. Also we all know H:R will be played for several months.

I have purchased every GOW game and every Halo game (xcept the ripoff ODST) and I really would like to see these 2 franchises pushed to another platform. Reach looks better, but not that much better and the same will go for Gears.. incremental improvements...

standpoint, they shouldn't release it on this gen of the 360 platform. But Microsoft can't afford to because PS3 is on such a roll now that they have to put something/anything out to try to slow down the "machine (PS3)" It's sad, because Halo is overbloated and wash-out and Gears is truely showing it's age after Gears 2 came out when compared to God of War 3 and Uncharted 2. Gears 1 was graphically better than 2. They could put 1080p on the box all they want but it was and is more cartoony than gears 1. I first noticed when leaving the hospital seen and seeing the first batch of locusts in the street. I was very dissapointed. Flying on the reaver was verycrummy too, everything looked like clay.

Well waiting for next gen is probably dumb because I think next gen is probably a good long ways off at this point. But I'd probably wait until next year sometime. Yeah I know that Halo "cheated" GoW3 out of a 2010 slot by releasing stuff last year AND this year but Gears of War and Halo should avoid tripping each other up and risk cannibalizing each other's sales.

Or maybe the fans will buy them both this fall in vast quantities and I'm worried about nothing.
