Bioshock 2 – The Sequel That Shouldn't Exist (But I'm Glad It Does)

Lawrence Sonntag writes: "Yep," I thought to myself in the months before release, "they're killing the game I loved for money. Figures." Then I actually played the game.

As it turns out, Bioshock 2 is pretty damn good. Though the sequel lacks the novel twist and clever philosophy of the original, its mechanical superiority and subtle expansions of the setting work harmoniously with the original more often than against it.

I definitely enjoyed Bioshock 2. It started out slow, but the last 4 or so hours were genius. The MP surprised me too. I didn't expect much, but when I got into it, I had fun. I wanted to get every plasmid, gun and melee powerup that was available in MP.

The worst thing about it though was that it seemed that almost every match had some sort of lag and I would disconnect from matches pretty often. Kind of took away from the MP aspect of the game a bit.

It didn't have me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end like the first, but I'm definitely glad I bought it.

It only lasted me 4 hrs total, it was dlc wrapped in multiplayer and with full price stuck on it. Avoid imo.

It took me at least 10 hours to get through the campaign.

It was extremely short. It was overall not that great.

It's 10 years too late for a BioShock film. The world of Rapture would have been perfect for a film. It's actually a good candidate for proper utilization of 3D, for increased depth rather than bullshit popping out of the screen. It could really show off the underwater city that way. But BioShock as a brand is so irrelevant these days that a film just doesn't make sense. Especially considering it would need a big budget and top notch effects to really take advantage of the IP.

gold_drake324d ago

i agree on the bigger budget. all the cgi they'd need for the background.

but i think it would work better as a show. a movie would be too short to establish the story

TheNamelessOne324d ago

Netflix greenlights anything, so that shows me very little faith in the project. Enough to just crap something out as they're, more and more, known to do.
